  1. This. Exactly. We bought two centre backs, one wasn’t named in the squad last night, one was on the bench. Are neither fit enough to play? Surely it had to be worth a shot to put Davies on as it became obvious very early on that it was going to be “one of those games”, and yet we didn’t really change tactics or performance for the better with the substitutions. Fuck me, even if we’d told Phillips to go up front with Origi for the last 10 and got crosses in, it might, just might, have resulted in a goal from somewhere, we were a goal down and not looking like scoring at all, never mind getting two back. Brighton players were throwing themselves in front of everything and busting a gut to cover back on the few occasions we broke, so credit to them and Potter for doing what they did best. We didn’t change anything and they had us at arms length, just as a number of teams have had us this season. I know we are missing big players, but we have to use those we have still fit knowing that playing the way we usually do will be severely diluted in effectiveness, and much easier to defend deep against, so change it! City will come at us Sunday, who knows, we might get a result against them, but 3 points against them and none against Brighton equals 3 points. Somehow I doubt we’ll beat City though.
  2. The miss by Salah in the first few minutes was crucial. Score that and their game plan has to alter, if not immediately then later in the game certainly, but that wasn’t the sole reason why Brighton won. They based their game plan on solid defence, as have many teams against us this season, and they were able to carry it off because they were so disciplined. Add to that they scored with the first chance from either side on target and we had no alternative plan and the result was all too predictable. The depressing thing is that even with a lack of first choice players available, we don’t ever seem to be able to change the way we play, to try something different. I’m not looking forwards to the City game at all.
  3. Even if he’d have been there he wouldn’t have stopped that big grock heading it back. They’ve been trying to do that all game, we should’ve known they were going to try it.
  4. No point crossing anything in just to have their grocks head it away, knock it in low and hard, and tell ours that you don’t have to wait to get in the box before shooting, at least make their keeper make a save and you might get a deflection on the way. Currently, I’d take any goal for us to take the lead.
  5. Having seen all the above captain our team, I can state, unequivocally, that the best captain I’ve seen is definitely one of them, or it might have been Matt Busby when he played for us. Souness. But not by much, from Jordan and Stevie.
  6. King to Fulham would be great, especially as the bloos have shown their hand over wanting him too. Arry reckons he’ll want guaranteed first team football and he’ll get that at the Cottage, might not a Woodison, as he’s looking to the Euro’s?
  7. I don’t think it would have been out of place for Rashford to be given a standing ovation at Anfield, had fans been allowed in. Some things transcend football rivalry. He’s shown up politicians for what many of them are, and he’s made them eat humble pie. Fair play to the kid.
  8. Dirty?Rash? Maybe he doesn’t like getting rinsed? Surely that’s a plus for a defender? Get him in!!
  9. I’ll take that, as it stands, if he is instrumental at stopping them from scoring. Square peg in a square hole is good.
  10. For us it might mean a double whammy, we gain a centre back worth the fuss and weaken our next opposition in the CL. For them it is gaining the fee, likely more than the fee, they might get for a player who could be coming to us anyway and, if they’re being pragmatic, knowing they don’t have much of a chance to progress in the competition even if they put us out. Unlikely that a deal will be struck this late though.
  11. There’s no doubt that the phrase “Flawed Genius” applied to Suarez. Outrageous skill, dark temperament at times. Still a privilege to have seen him at his best.
  12. Nice one Crouchy, bet with Ferdinand Liverpool will finish above United, hope to see him pick that up at the end of the season!!
  13. How many fouls does Hojberg have to commit to get a yellow???
  14. Need to see more from Thiago, given the fuss over how good he is supposed to be, he’s made a few basic errors that I wouldn’t ‘t expect to see.
  15. Not going to get anything from Atkinson, so I wouldn’t bother going over if I were our players.
  16. He was bleating that the referee and VAR had got 2 decisions wrong, Sheffield’s first goal and united’s disallowed goal. I think he was right. Oh dear, how sad, never mind.
  17. Nice as it is to see others slip up, it’s all moot unless we step up. Can see tomorrow’s game being a bit shit as Mourinho won’t go hung ho against us, we’ll likely dominate possession if that’s the case, so, we have to make that count in a way we haven’t recently. He’ll be certain they’ll score on the break through Son, Kane or Bergwijn. What tonight’s results have shown is, city apart, how easy this league would be to win if......well you know the drill by now.
