  1. Game over. I just hope Lampard & co can stop Owen getting his hands on a Premiership medal.
  2. Nah, it's true. You don't win the title with a weaker squad than Man Utd & Chelsea if you lose two of your first three games, especially a simple fixture like this. Not with our propensity to struggle to break teams down, not with the massive hit morale will take. It's possible, of course, but not realistic.
  3. An hour to save any realistic chance of winning the title.
  4. Arsenal are doing what they usually do. They'll slide by October.
  5. I'm standing by my comment - Burnley and Birmingham look to have fight in them. Portsmouth could possibly be the third team, but a limp outfit like Wigan will capitulate often enough to drop. Fight is much more important than quality when you get to the lower part of the table - I don't think there was a worse team on paper than Stoke last year but they survived comfortably.
  6. Could have been different if Scholes - one of the dirtiest players in football history, but let off because of his "quiet" nature and "unassuming" appearance - had been correctly sent off. If a ref failed to dismiss an opposition player against a Ferguson side for that, he'd have his underlings at the Premier League see to it that he wouldn't work a top match for a few months.
  7. It might be beneficial in the long run though - they were always going to beat a flimsy, Championship level side like Wigan. More chance of Ferguson being deluded enough to think that he doesn't need to sign Villa or Silva prior to the deadline this way.
  8. Wigan and Hull are effectively relegated. Mark my words, they'll be two of the three to drop this season.
  9. To most people Gillett and Hicks are the kindly owners who reached into their pockets to purchase our record signing. They see that they gave us Torres, Keane, Johnson & Aquilani, all of whom cost more than our previous #1 in Cissé. The specifics fly by unnoticed - the fact that we actually spend less than we did under Moores and that what we *do* fork out nowadays goes straight onto the club is simply not known by many. That's why you have people like those quoted earlier in the thread who would "rather Benitez went". To them, Gillett and Hicks are the smiling Americans who delivered Fernando Torres.
  10. It was nice of Carrick to help Michael Owen feel more welcome at Old Trafford by doing a cover version of one of his penalties though. Should do wonders for morale.
  11. Unless they properly replace Ronaldo and Tevez - Championship level has-beens like Owen don't count - their usual run of wins won't materialise this year. You look at their team and their best player by miles is Rio Ferdinand. Other than that, they look ordinary - Ronaldo, despite his staggering cuntishness, is a remarkable player and an unbelievably big loss to them. That said, I suspect they'll make a massive signing or two before the deadline. Ferguson's supposition that they don't require anyone else is the most preposterous thing I've ever heard him say.
  12. Let's see how we're doing after Stoke. That said, the title is likely gone if we lose more than one more game before March.
  13. To be fair to Dowd, Ferguson would have seen to it that he doesn't referee a 'big' match for a good few months if he'd awarded us a second penalty.
  14. The irony is that if we beat Stoke next week, it's a massive improvement on our haul from these two fixtures last season.
  15. He's been poor. I'm sure he'll be watched carefully, as he looked increasingly shaky last season and would have received a lot more stick but for his identity - Some players 'go' more quickly than others, they can't all be Hyypia.
  16. I think that's it now. Very, very hard to see Spurs throwing away the lead for a second time unless we have a crate full of Man Utd shirts we can change in to for the last 30 mins.
  17. Tyler and Gray sound as though their favourite Uncle has just been shot dead.
  18. The Harlem Globetrotter wanted to go and swap tips about Prada handbags with Ronaldo rather than help us win the title, so it's moot. The real "puzzler" (not really...) is how we don't have another 20m or so to spend on squad re-enforcements.
  19. Wait for the media - and a large sub-section of the idiot fanbase - to blame it on Rafa for losing Alonso, when the reality is that the question to be asked is of the owners once more - Where is the £20m+ that conservative estimates would suggest Rafa should have to spend for further acquisitions....? ...sorry...! I forgot that it's servicing the debt that they, ably assisted by Manc/Evertonian hybrid scumbags Moores and Parry lumped onto the club. Fuck off. Fuck off. And fuck off Benoit Arse-Cockman.
  20. A draw would be a very good result today, but...We owe Spurs for the atrocity that was last season's game here.
  21. Indeed. If Torres had played 'the Owen role' in Houllier's Liverpool team he'd have been on 40 league goals per season.
  22. I bet he actually, preposterously, takes pride in having his little golden 'Champions' badge on his sleeve despite being a relegated, Championship-level player last season.
  23. Birmingham taking anything from this game would be the most shocking footballing event of the last 100 years. Their role is to lay down and occasionally look like they're putting in a token effort.
