    Even if the registry were restricted to genuinely dangerous sex criminals (who should be kept locked up anyway), the utlity is dubious. Most people don't have the luxury of moving house whenever a convicted pedophile arrives in the neighbourhood and the preventative measures that parents would take should be common sense regardless of whether one has the information. One might also argue that stigmatising the convict and preventing full reintegration into society makes reoffence more rather than less likely. It's all about political incentives, though. Defending the registry allows politicians to score cheap tough-on-crime points at relatively low fiscal cost (versus, say, increasing capacity of prisons). It also exploits society's visceral desire to believe that random psychopathic crimes can be meaningfully controlled by the state. The reality is that sex attacks on children by strangers remain extremely rare and that a child is far more likely to be abused by a family member. Since the latter is a much trickier issue to address both practically and politically, they prefer to focus on the cartoonish stereotype.

    Wrongly allowed their goal, failed to play advantage when Maxi was clean through and ignored a blatant back pass injury time. Fucking useless officials.

    Buzzing after that. Stoke are one of the hardest sides to play fluid football against so the fact that we delivered this performance with a team comprising six defenders reflects incredibly well on the King's tactics and man management. His pass and move approach has been utterly transformative.

    Gutted. I've never had any illusions that he would commit his career to us but truly believed he "got" the ethos of the club and would handle any exit with dignity and respect. His conduct over the past few days has been a complete anathema to this. I feel like I've just discovered that a beloved and respected family member is a child molester or rapist. Some acts are so reprehensible that they completely erase all the good one associates with the person and this is the footballing equivalent of it. I look back on all the wonderful goals he scored for us and feel completely empty since it's now clear that were was no substance behind any of them. He's just another in a long line of narcissists who happened to born with talented feet. A spoilt brat who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing. I can only hope that (unlike the automaton Owen) he'll one day look back on this moment and think, "what the fuck was I thinking?". You've left the greatest club on the planet to join a fart in the wind of footballing history. Silly, silly boy.

    Wish we'd tell them to fuck off. We lose very little delaying this until the summer and could gain alot (change of heart from the player, potential City bid, selling him to a continental club instead of a rival). The way Bacon face handled Ronaldo should be the blue print here.

    We're no further away from Chelsea than Spurs were 18 months ago. A couple more Suarez calibre signings in the summer and there's no reason why we can't compete with them next season.

    Agree with this. I'd rather accept £35 million from a continental side than £50m from a direct rival. The extra money will look like chump change when he's scoring critical goals for them. If Torres tries to force a British move, threatening to stick him in the reserves until he's pushing 30 should focus the mind. Bacon face never sanctions these transfers so why the fuck should we?

    The irony is that he'll flop there. His evolution under Rafa and underperformance for Spain suggests that he needs a level of hands on coaching and adapation of the system that he won't get at Chelsea. He'll just be a cog in the machine there and their plastic fans will be alot less tolerant of his shitty body language and injuries.

    Not a guarantee by any stretch of the imagination. Spurs could easily pip them this season and Arsenal, United, City (younger squad) and even us are better bets in the medium term given looming spending restraints.

    He can control and pass a ball, which is more than can be said for several first team regulars. Absolutely deserves a shot ahead of Shelvey, whose contribution has been negligible.

    That's an absolute whopper of a claim. The guy who brought Kenny back to the club in an official role, publicly lobbied for him in the summer and has always maintained a friendly and respectful relationship with him gives an interview praising his appointment and you see...jealousy and bitterness. You've got to be utterly obsessed with the man to plumb such depths of paranoia.
