  1. There haven't been 70 odd unles you count kids the 39 listed are the lot excluding 15/16/17/18 year old kids - there are 48 of them including 20 at 16 or less - but only a handful have cost 6 figures -and those kids are gambles pure and simple our academy has gambled on 96 kids in that time and produced - Potter, Peltier, Guthrie, Hammill, Spearing, Darby and Kelly If achieving top 4 and the K/O stages of teh CL count as 'decent' achievements then throughout we must have had a decent team and that implies decent players
  2. Well i've listed who I think is poor/crap - what I think they cost, what he got back and the difference would appear to be 'wasted' - I actually think he's made a huge 'profit' in terms of value added to our squad and I dont think I'm alone - just not in the majority on this site. you've just said I'm writing rubbish because you dont agree with the definitions or my adding up but not really given me anything to go on in terms of why I'm wrong - have all what I think where decent buys been poor buys? do you have a different definitions - shouldn't there be definitions if your are looking at somebody's success in the transfer market - is he expected not to make any mistakes - you could argue that the 11.5 for babel actually was a decent spend for someone with that potential, that 7million for an italian fullback that it turned out couldn't defend was a mistake anybody could make, that the 8 mil for the spanish left winger should have worked, that someone with the class of Morientes was a worthwhile gamble. I actually think a lot of his mistakes are understandable - doesn't stop them being mistakes though.
  3. do I need to be an accountant to just add stuff up then? the word 'about' generally means it's not precise - I'm not a english teacher either before you ask the words decent, poor etc are to avoid specific 'definitions' and put players in general headings that most 'reasonable' people (not arseholes obviously) could see the reasons for - eg Kuyt whatever his limitations has done a 'decent' job scored some important goals, worked hard, played a load of games - we've got our 'moneys worth' especially if you compare him with the likes of Nani, Walcott as wingers or Pavlyachenko or Bent for Spurs. Of course some may classify him as 'poor' even 'bad' some may say excellent. You'd have to change quite a few to alter the 'about' 50% though. In terms of whats left -its there to illustrate the money hasn't been pissed up a wall but is still sitting there in the squad, not advocating selling anybody I dont believe you rarely swear or there is any due respect
  4. I've tried to make sense of some of the shit on this thread without success Benitez has 'bought' 39 'senior' players including players on free's and kids for a million plus. (I haven't counted the near 50 kids he's brought in for a total of a few million but compared to the academy his policy has already matched the number of graduates who've made the first team in the last 10 years). 5 are undisputed top drawer (Torres, Mascherano, Agger, Reina and Alonso). 14 are decent (From Benayoun, Kuyt, Bellamy, Sissoko, Arbeloa, Crouch, Skrtel, Zenden, Lucas, Kromkamp, Carson, Ngog, Insua, Garcia) 3 are unknown quantities(Johnson and Aquilani and Carvalieri) 2 freebies were 'understandable' - not good enough but there were reasons why - Pellegrino and Fowler cost nothing came in to do 'a job' 8 have been poor (Babel, Reira, Pennant, Keane Nunez, Gonzalez, Leto,Kyrgiakos) and just 7 have stunk -(Dossena, Josemi, Voronin, Degen, Paletta, Morientes and Itandje) So on numbers its slightly above a 50% success rate with the jury out on 2 key players. In terms of 'wasted' money - he's had 20 players that he's bought, come and go - he spent £80 million on those and they sold for £100 million - - £20 million profit Of the 225mil he's spent - 72mil of that was either poor or rank (about 30% of his overall budget)- he got 36 mil back on them including a couple who somehow made a profit like Leto and Gonzalez - so in terms of 'wasted' money its £36 million (15%). He's spent £120 mil on his decent or better buys - and made £70 mil on those he's sold - (with 75 mil still in the team). So anything wasted on bad players should be more than matched from the increased value in the squad. So calling his transfers shit is clearly bollocks - both in quantity and cost. Not everyone is a superstar but anybody expecting that aint worth a toss.
  5. Our main rivals didn't strengthen - but the likes of Spurs, Sunderland, Everton, and Villa arguably did and three of those have beaten us already. I agree this season has not felt 'right' since we didn't turn up at Spurs - the missing ingredient appears to be belief - not the quality of the players, depth of squad, tactics or subs - but the belief we can win. Rafa is there to provide that - there have been glimpses away at Bolton, away at West Ham, Home to Burnley, home to united but little more - at the moment whether we rise or fall is based on factors outside the team - a beach ball, a sending off, player injured - we are just too fragile - a run of defeats may do that to you but it doesn't explain the spurs game where we looked like we where still in pre-season and they are the type of criticisms I can understand because the manager is there to manage trying to second guess why he's subbed Torres or claiming he's had enough to spend when clearly others have had more or slating his transfer policy when its better than 95% of other managers I can't get behind. Thing is I still think put our best team out and we could win every game, so he must have done something right (and oddly is why someone else coming in could do a job as you suggested).
  6. you really dont get it do you boy it is you that are wallowing in self pity based on a few too many defeats - you that have no bottle, screaming for the managers head like a kid without its dummy I live in Essex - doesn't mean I'm from essex - its where I work - Southend in are going through a shit time - one thing their fans aren't is 'weak' - your arrogance and ignorance are sickening - as it happens I was born and bred in Old Swan there til my mid 20's - most of my family still live in Liverpool - I do have a vague idea of what the City is about - but I've no doubt you'd be a bellend wherever you where now take a deep breath and then wait for your balls to drop
  7. Good answer - its possible somebody could come in and get more from the players, its possible Benitez may have gone as far as he can - but the reaction based on a dozen games is insane and given our current set up asking the 'owners' to find somebody who could achieve it? I dont mind criticism of Benitez its the nonsense about transfers, subs and our right to win that annoys me. There are some good managers out there but they have to be better than good, they have to be exceptional. For me rafa is better than good and it still to be decided on whether he's exceptional. I wonder how Wenger would perform if he arrived in the Prem now.
  8. or realising that actually what you are expecting isn't doable without a lot of luck, and a lot of patience you want somebody to come in and create a team that outperforms 3 or 4 other teams who already have more expensive players and the ability to out bid you for any players you do want - whilst working for not one but two greedy, untrustworthy liars and at the same time managing the expectations of 'fans' who believe its their birthright to win trophies and will not accept any argument to the contrary -people will be queuing up
  9. what a completely classless thread - in which our manager to whom we are too loyal is called a shitbag - you couldn't make it up
  10. Think Arbeloa was Finns replacement after a season of proving himself -degen was brought in to add to the 'possibilities' and probably provide an attacking option Dossena should have been an improvement - the italian first choice left back or jAR - tough choice We couldn't afford Crouch on the bench - Ngog - who is one for the future - I dont think its as simple as like for like - Babel was probbaly supposed to bed in - get used to the game from the left and then the following season be used more and more through the centre hyypia and alonso tough acts to follow and yet to be seen - I thought Skrtel was Hyypia's replacement - and kyrgiakos is just a stop gap until kelly and ayala add some strength to their game
  11. really you dont think they'd just blame somebody else? I've read through the various rafa threads there is a common theme with the rafa out numpties not one can sustain a decent argument - everyone is based on bollocks - facts - what do they have to do with anything, transfers ignore the actual numbers, spend ignore the competition, results ignore the CL, ignore 2nd place, ignore just 2 defeats in a season, the squad ignore the first 11, Torres injured - ignore it he should have played 90 minutes - every single argument is purile drivel spouted by gutless, feckless losers we are liverpool, we should win the title - we exist to win trophies - the games moved on - shame a lot of our fans haven't - deluded and clueless as the jordies my estimation is going down by the day
  12. Its a good effort but it ignores the fact that most fans aint interested in facts they form their own 'opinions' normally based not on what they see or what they are told but what they think should be those who have already made their mind up on a player or a manager wont bother reading it and nobody on the internet is allowed to change their mind or admit they fucked up especially if your under 20 its like an unwritten law The numbers dont stack up for me because they dont include a lot of the kids closer to 50 of those alone even so compared to our academy his policy of buying in kids at 16/17/18 has been more productive than our academy.
  13. I was saying winning trophies costs money - to win the fa cup you need to win 6 games and whoever you are have a chunk of luck - and to do that it broke pompei to win the title will cost a hell of a lot more
  14. so we put out a team with our 4th choice centre half, 3rd choice right back, a kid at left back, a freebie support striker, torres 80% fit, lucas having had a virus all week - we boss the game but concede two stupid goals - then get two players sent off for fuck all - at a club that beat united and chelsea at home last year - but we expect to win - not deluded at all really we spent 20 mil on a midfielder who were told will be fit in a month - subsequently find out its three - thats appalling that is - we also lost a 30 million pound midfielder - meaning we lost out on 10 mil and thats supposed to make us stronger? yep we should be doing better - no delusions there either we are struggling this season out of form, loss of confidence, too many injuries a series of tricky away fixtures - some very odd goings on beach balls and insane red cards - all down to the managers inability to build a squad ( having finished 2nd last year) and his stupid substitutions based on people on the internet knowing the squad better than him but we aint deluded our average players are being shown up for what they are - ok when dropped into a winning side but average when put into a struggling one - blame rafa for not having 22 first team players if you like - but spurs have spent 50 mil more getting their squad together and city 100 million - ignore the hard facts all you want wont change a thing - our resources and wages say we'll finish 5th - only good management and a decent 12 th man can change that being the most successful club and having 18 titles wont chnage a bleedin thing i thought you were deluded not stupid
  15. Think the bloke is trying to be honest - if we exist to win trophies thats because we are living in the past before the game became all about money - the fans want trophies - the business wants money - and the business with the most money buys the most trophies
  16. Ridiculous Because rafa didn't walk he's happy? What if he actually wants the club to succeed and thinks its his best chance or he's started a job and owes it to himself and us to finish it - what if he's actually a decnt bloke trying to do the decent thing? the fact you are bored with the debt, that fact you dont want to accept we can't afford the best players or at least enough of them - that we are 3rd fourth, even fifth favourites for the title - yet some fans 'expect' us to win it - get fuckin real - hope to win it, support us to win it but dont ignore bleedin reality - most knowledgable fans my arse - most deluded after Newcastle maybe why should we 'expect' to win the title?
  17. just supposin he over achieved when he got 2nd last year - that actually we pay the 5th highest wages and have the 5th most expensive squad and our expectation should be 5th - if you 'expect' to finish any higher then on what basis 'because we are Liverpool' - 18 titles dont earn you a point in the league - so on what basis 'should' we expect any better? Because our manager should be better than the other top 4? Based on experience, Wenger and Ferguson have more. Based on Talent? Well according to half of those on here he is shit - we should actually be finishing 20th We had a whole team out injured and Torres was playing with an injury which is why he was taken off - we did not take advantage of being the better team by a mile in the first half and we paid the price - our second string and also rans aren't good enough - thats why they are second string and also rans - and he bought them because he doesn't have the money to buy 22 first team players like his rivals do - our first 11 stack up against anybodies - he bought them - our econd string doesn't everything else on here is about agenda's that have been running all season - and it is friggin shameful - ynwa unless the shower of shite on here or 606 is anything to go by
  18. i can only imagine you've never played in defence - because he certianly didn't look strong trying to get back - trying being a bit excessive- and I dont think I'd have been saying kind words when he eventualy did stroll back if you can't get back dont go forward - used to be the old mantra - not just charge forward regardless and leave everybody in the shit - its his complete lack of understanding of the game that gets me - he wrong footed spearing and the centre halves more than the opposition with his 'challenges' - clueless he stops and waits when the opposition go past him - he waits for the ball to be played before getting into position - I dont know how many basic things he just doesn't do because I've lost track of them there are two aspects to the game attacking is one of them granted - although his half arsed shot when clean through din't fill me with glee either - yes he can run fast into space - so what - yes he did make a good interception in our box - doesn't make up for the rest of it
  19. now your just trying to wind me up......hoho ho hehehe - good name though Ngog was our best player by a distance
  20. err no they dont - it would relate to everything apart from the ability to run forward quickly into large amounts of space when their left midfielder is absent.........
  21. he had Kuyt in front of him - of course he had support and his absence pulled Spearing out of position throughout the game - his decisions on when to press and when to stick when the opposition had the ball caused havoc - he is a defensive liability and makes Johnson look like Phil Neal - he has hardly played because he falls over and breaks in a strong wind or because he feels 'ill' - he has the palor and body language of Mark Bosnich on a good day wouldn't suprise me to find strange substances at work - for some reason I can't stand the bloke and I'm blind to anything good he does contribute - up there with paul stewart on the players whose face you'd love to smash in -and I am usually a very reasonable man
  22. Degen a positive - you are having a fucking laugh - ok the bloke can run forward at pace - ffs he can't defend, can't actually get back when he does go forward - Babel gets slated and he made more tackles than Degen - Degen reacts slower than my nan and she's been dead over 20 years - his positional sense is atrocious - once beaten he gives up - he's one of the poorest players I've ever seen play for us - do you people watch anything other than the bleedin ball - ffs
  23. Tom R's main accusations against Benitez was that we should have built a better squad , 'it was better 4 years ago in his first season' - by my reckoning his first sesaon was 5 years ago... so that aint the best start to an argument Benitez has brought 20 first team players since that time for decent money, another 15 or so for peanuts or on frees and the rest, over 50 granted, are reserves and youngsters. Of his 20 signings I'd say 8 have been poor , 4 have been fantastic and the rest somewhere in between I dont think thats a bad average - he's also unloaded 30 or so from the houlier era that averaged more than 20 points less than the current squad - to suggest the squad 5 years ago could match the current one isn't backed up by any stats at all and ignores the likes of diao, cheyrou, vignal, le tallec, diouf, ostemobor, partridge, whitbread, welsh, potter, mellor.............. The second part of the rant suggests Rafa can't man management - to be honest I'm undecided on that - he's done well with some, pissed off others - Mourinho and O'neill are supposed to be great motivators they seem to stuff up just as much - we do underperform when favourites, we did bottle it last year when top but we've also time and again pulled it out the bag when we needed to against better teams and worse odds.
