The Spain hitman hobbled out of training ahead of his country's match with Denmark at the weekend and a scan later confirmed the 23-year-old had sustained an adductor injury.
But the big-money summer signing from Atletico Madrid - who has netted seven times so far this season - is desperate to appear in his first city derby this weekend.
"I intend to be fit for Saturday. I don't want to miss out," he said.
"I've been told how special the game is and I need to be ready in time."
Torres - who cost the Reds a club record £26.5 million - is no stranger to big derby games and cannot wait to test himself against Liverpool's bitter rivals Everton.
He added: "I am very happy at Liverpool and I've learnt a lot - I love being at a big club like this.
"I have played in big derby matches before. I played for Atletico against Real Madrid and I'm looking forward to enjoying something similar in the Premier League."
