  1. This was on RAOTL.Very good read.Written by a bloke called Peter Derbies make you think weird things. One minute your best mate is, well, your best mate, but the nearer the clock gets to its inevitable journey to kick off time he’s a cunt who barracks for that shite from across the park. During the growing pangs of youth I often pondered about the difference between a red and a blue. What made us that way? Genes? District you lived in? Peer or family pressure? Who knows, but all avenues were exhausted in trying to reason why your mates could entertain supporting Everton. And during the build up in derby week when the pisstaking went closer to the bone and they drove you mad with their cocky confidence you’d even wonder whether it was something as bizarre as the consumer brand loyalties of their Mams. Well it had to be some fucking thing. You looked the same, spoke the same, went to the same schools, liked the same music and perved over the same birds. We were joined at the fucking hip according to our Dads. But by the Saturday morning of the match all sensible rationality was out la fenetre and you couldn’t even stand the blue tinge in the wallpaper pattern. Ten minutes to kick-off and you couldn’t help thinking that your best mate was in their end; jumping up and down in your ground with the rest of the cunts, rabid in forlorn anticipation of beating us for once. Mind you, his Mam did get Typhoo instead of Tetley. I remember once when Imre fucking Varadi knocked us out the cup at Goodison in the late 70’s. We had to watch the match in the Odeon (someone dug up Kenneth Wolstenholme to do the commentary would you believe) and - squinting to get used to the light from the dark of the cinema after the game - the first person to come into view was a blue cousin I hadn’t seen for ages. The bastard tried to shag me in his overly exuberant celebrations. I just had to get off without uttering a word. How the fuck I ever liked him when I was growing up I’ll never know, I thought on the bus on the way home. The signs were there of course - Chum instead of Pal for their fucking Blacky. Should’ve known he’d become a prick. I found out later that an Uncle was in there too. He can fuck off an all. May have slung us a few bob in the past and never snitched that time he caught us sagging but he’s always going on about being a blue. Well, we’ll see about that then the twat. Did I go on about the numerous times we thrashed them? Or the own goals – Sandy’s infamous one at Goodison when he launched himself like a fuckin exocet; or Tommy Wright’s in the 4-0 Anfield mauling; or Micky Lyon’s exquisite lob into the Anny Rd End goal? No, just a swift jibe and on to another match and a swag of silverware at the end of the season while they wallowed in the mire. But it’ll be different now that they’re looking down at us from the lofty heights of fourth. Yep, should have sussed him and me Aunty Mary years ago – Daz instead of Omo for fucks sake. It’s the fear that gets you though. The fear of losing. The fear of being humiliated by your mates, or neighbours or family without having time to think up a witty retort and feign indifference at the paltry, insignificant loss. But deep down you know it hurts like fuck. And so it will be on Sunday for thousands of us. To the victor go the spoils and four months of unmerciful pisstaking. To the loser madder thoughts of revenge at the next derby. (Bollocks, too, to the saying ‘revenge is a dish best served cold’. You want it now, on Sunday, 10 years ago and forevermore). But when it’s all done and dusted they are still your mates and family. A product of a similar, if not the same, upbringing just like the different brand names are usually made with similar, if not the same, ingredients and usually by the same multi fucking national anyway. In general give me a Scouser above any other National or regional characteristic regardless of their football hue. Hence the reason on Sunday I’ll be stuck on the end of a couch with a couple of other reds, while the sofa opposite will take the formidable weight of a few blues, one of whom I’m proud to call one of my best mates. We’ve been through the bender days, the scraps, the picket lines, the slings and arrows of each others family trials and tribulations and the recent trauma of him being diagnosed with prostate cancer. For a few hours I’ll hate, loathe, detest and despise him and his team as Tourettish outbursts spew forth from either end of the temporary stands. That’s how it should be. We’d have it no other way. And then we’ll get back to reality and the previous couple of hours of petty hatred will be replaced with trust, respect and a sense of loyalty to each other for who we are and where we’re from. I might hazard a guess, though, that they never used the same scourer that we did. After all have you ever heard of a football team called Vim? . I fucking love/hate derbies.

  4. Excellent !!!Loads of forum regulars just got sent this e-mail ********************************************************************************* Bonjour Dave ,Chris, Gav, John B, Daytripper , Kopbear,Aiden,Phil and all the other great supporters on this website Ca va?? I am just writing a short note to you all to wish you all a very Happy Christmas.I was speaking to Michael on Tuesday night as he invited me to dinner with his family and he told me of this fantastic forum ,and especially about the excellent issues that are discussed on the forums by you all in particular.I have to say that in the face of some bad weeks your posts are all very welcome. Most of the opinions are very well thought out and put forward very well ,I especially think Colin/Kopbear,Aws and Gav offer me their full support which I thank you for .I must also say that as a Frenchman ,there is not much that would shock me ,but some of the sexual fantasy´s on the general forum frighten me greatly especially some of John B´s and Daytrippers fetishes. I could not sleep last night after the Villa game (which I hope you all enjoyed)so I stayed up all night on my PC reading your thoughts and opinions and I must say I enjoyed them totally ,although I have to say ,You also have your fair share of "les branleurs" as we french would say.I would like to meet some of these people some day .I would make sure that there are no "agenda´s". In recent weeks ,we have been playing some fantastic football and we are just not getting any luck .How we have lost all these games amuses me because we have ,how you say??Martelé each team .We will get back to winning ways soon .Hopefully against those horrible Blue nose "Branleurs" on sunday.Last night was especially sweet as I have no feelings of goodwill to those Aston Villa.I think their coach is a bit simple and with that Staunton playing for them now I really wanted to win .Thankfully we got the result at last that our play deserves. I know some of you are quite desturbed by my decisions but I do stand by each and every one of them .Also to those who are criticising me over playing Emile .Two years ago the same people were unhappy with Danny playing .Now he is our best player (except for my Michael of course).Too many of the players are having problems at the moment which are affecting their mentality .I am dealing with Emiles problems as best as I can .Last season at the Newcastle game brought to the fold the problems to me. Emile is afraid of the dark and got very frightened when the lights went out .So this year I am making Emile go to bed all the time with the lights out so that next time he will not be scared .It will improove his mentality and will also serve the team better .It will just take a little more time. Anyway ,I must leave you now as I have been invited to dinner by the Hyppia´s tonite so I must get some Christmas shopping done .I will try to keep in touch with the website as it is important to view the supporters opinions .Thank you all for your support and let´s hope that we have a good season. Je vous espère tout a un noël heureux et une grande nouvelle année égards Gerard Gerard Houllier Liverpool Football Club Anfield Road Liverpool Merseyside L4 OTH Gerard.Houllier@LFC.co.uk
