The game was Skrtel's first appearance of the season having been sidelined through injury, and despite the arrival of Mamadou Sakho and the impressive start made by Kolo Toure, Lawro told the Daily Post that Rodgers should retain the status quo in his backline: "Martin Skrtel did very well against Manchester United – the champions of England couldn’t score a goal – and the rule of football is if somebody comes in and does well, they should stay in."
He added "Yes, Kolo Toure did well before his injury, but if the Ivorian comes straight back into the team then there’s a chance Skrtel will be lost to Rodgers for good. Mamadou Sakho may have cost £18m but he will need time to settle and I can’t see him starting at Swansea City on Monday."
