Lallana: Liverpool have become addicted to winning trophies

Adam Lallana says that Liverpool have got the taste for silverware as they look to add to their growing collection on Saturday evening in the final of the Club World Cup against Flamengo.

2019 has been a year of spectacular progress on and off the pitch and all the planning and hard work done in the previous seasons has led to ultimate success in the Champions League and then backing that up in the European Super Cup against Chelsea.

Jürgen Klopp’s men will now attempt to win the Club World Cup for the first time in the illustrious history of Liverpool Football club.

It is something that has Lallana generally excited and wanting more.

The Mirror reported the midfielder as saying:

“It’s like an addiction, you win one medal and you want to win another.

“You want to win more.

“It’s massive. We are European champions and to be Club World champions, there’s not many people who can say that.

"We are going to give it our all.

“Of course it is an added incentive that it’s not been done before.

"Another trophy is up for grabs at the weekend so bring it on.”

In the middle of a hectic month, Klopp has juggled his pack and given opportunities to those players on the fringes like Lallana, Xherdan Shaqiri and Naby Keita.

The veteran midfielder who has made 11 appearances in 2019/20, said having players who can come in and fill a role when asked by the manager is a key factor of being part of a great side.

“We’ve not got the biggest squad and we had Hendo (Jordan Henderson) at centre half, I thought he was magnificent.

“That is all part of the character and the mentality and why we keep churning out late winners.

"It’s as simple as that. The lads we have in this team, coming off the bench, it’s a squad game.

“There are games every three days. You just can’t churn out the same team every week.

“We are going to need every member of this squad if we are going to be successful this year and being successful is winning this competition, going for the league, being successful in the Champions League."

In terms of his own status, Lallana said that he has been in constant contact with Klopp and is still really enjoying his Football.

“The manager has spoken to me and told me: ‘Be patient, keep training the way you’re training.’

“I think that was before the United game and obviously I came on during that game and had an impact straight away.

“ We are Liverpool Football Club, European champions. I’ve been fit all year, I’ve contributed at times.

“I’m in a great place, I’m enjoying my football and getting rewarded with games now.”

I'm happy for him, but I'm also wondering if he got injured during the course of that interview.

He only gets injured when there is a ball involved. If the interview was written with a ballpoint pen, I fear for him post-interview.

It took me almost 90 minutes to realise he started against Monterrey. I can understand Jurgen wanting him to get minutes just in case we need him (shudders at the thought) but central midfield? Please not there as my heart can't stand inferior teams ploughing through our midfield like one of Tony Moanero's 'Uncles' with his ma.
