What happened to all that then? Aren't they technically in a worse financial situation than we were? Their wage bill is near the top of the pile according to those figures released the other day, but where are the online campaigns, email campaigns, protests, scarf bollocks etc. Last season when they were losing out to the chavs it was red knights this and Newton Heath that. It's all gone quiet now though. Amazing how a successful season will placate people isn't it? And for the record, the same would no doubt have been true of us had we been in the same position (indeed in many ways it was, in the season we finished second).

I admit that I am a complete Mancophobe but I really think that it is disgraceful that the National Football Museum is to be relocated to the Urbis mausoleum in the milltown. It is another case of Manchester City Council lapping up the cultural heritage of the north west region in their efforts to make themselves a 'Little London'. The dreadful aspect of this move is that Preston, along with eleven other clubs, were founding members of the Football League and have an absolutely fascinating history, while neither Manchester club were in existence when the first organised professional league was formed. On that basis alone the museum should never be moved to Manchester. Along with the Imperial War Museum it suggests that city was in the vanguard of social and cultural events in this country, events in which other cities played a far more prominent role. It is nothing short of shameful that the money that was required to keep the Football Museum was not forthcoming from any of the wealthy football administrative bodies. The FA, Football League, even the PFA could have made greater efforts to save the Preston location. Even the fucking government could have intervened through the culture secretary. It is sickening to think what Manchester will turn it into - probably a nod to Busby and Best before telling visitors that football only really started in 1992. Tom Finney has said that none of his memorabilia will be going to Manchester and Tommy Lawton's son is withdrawing his father's ashes and other objects from exhibition. I think other clubs should be encouraged to withdraw any items that they may have contributed to the National Football Museum. Then it can be from the start exactly what it is going to become at a later date - the Museum of Manchester Football. If enough exhibits are withdrawn it could be as bare of artefacts as the Imperial War Museum (north) currently seems to be. My brother visited the place and came away saying that he had seen more firearms in Croxteth. But I am absolutely fucked off by this news and I hope others feel the same way.
