  1. At least we know there is still a chance, after 3 years of Lucas ability display we all know he is nowhere near a chance to show he's decent techniqually. He can show passing range, determination, game intelligence, work rate, but unlike Aqua, he is the one of those who weren't born with it. I understand Serie A followers have their say, but I read translated Gremio forum and Brasilian supporters laughing Lucas off all the time. I think he is praised here much more than in Porto Alegre actually.
  2. Tom R It's nothing short of ignorace to point out Aqua has a bad touch or no pace. In Rome he was third quickest player in the side and reportedly he has more pace according to this year speed tests in our side. Gerrad also said Aqua is extremely skillfull. And if he has a bad touch, I guess anyone except for Johnson and Aurelio has, as if you did watch some games this year, and basing on your amount of posts there should have been quite a few, you have to say Agger doesn't have such a glue in his feet. I have all this season games on my computer, Stoke at home is the only one I missed, but have watched twice after that, as every single game. And I analised deliberately our players skill and to say Aqua has a bad touch, you must think we are Big Sam side or Aston Viila at best. Aqua is streets ahead of majority of our squad. I don't mean he is that better footballer as he lacks stamina, commitment and footballing brain, even though his passing range is superb, but he is easily in our Top 4. Easily. Here is the proof. YouTube - Aquilani vs Portsmouth
  3. Sterling, Pacheco, Bruna, Suso, Toni Brito Silva, Ince - all of them have a lovely touch, reminding me of a skillfull generation we blooded in early 90s. I think that Nicola Saric is extremely gifted and could be a bigger talent than Dalla Valle, Ngoo, Nemeth and N'Gog, but somehow Jordy Brouwer, who still has one year on his deal even though he is 22, has a starting spot instead of him. Hope BTW brouwer, darby, Itandje, Plessis, El Zhar will follow the footsteps of Voronin, Dossena, San Jose, Michaylov and so on, so that they don't block a place in the team our GIFTED youngsters.
  4. To say Aqua has equal touch to Lucas is beyond me. So many great back heels so far, divine passing (Arsenal, Fulham, Portsmouth), orchestrating the midfield against Atletico or Burnley. Watch him playing for Rome and his awesome rabona pass to Mancini. I think against Pompey Aqua showed more flashes of brilliance than Mascherano or especially Lucas throughout all the season. His goal against Atletico, great shots against Chavski or Hull, 2 goals and 6 assists in eleven starts comparing to other midfibelders tally is a great result. If you need some more direct evidence, Roma supporters still hail Aquilani as second Totti and call him a talent who so far hasn't fulfilled his potential, whereas Gremio supporters from Brasil can't get their heads around big money we paid for him and they still can't believe they managed to build him such a PR as second Kaka. Watch any compilation about Aquilani, concerning one game of course, like Fulham, Pompey, Atleti and watch Lucas against Stoke, Manu, Arsenal and you see that the ball is always glued to Aqua's feet while when the ball comes to Lucas, his touch is a little heavy, if only a little. It's worse than Maxi, Babel, Aurelio, Skrtel. Lucas first touch is better than Carra and Zorba only, worse than Reina, exactly Kuyt level. And if everyone makes a scapegoat of Lucas, isn't it more likely that a few (unfortunately, not a few) supporters are blind Lucas followers, posting ridicoulous coments like the one saying Aqua isn't any better techniqually than Lucas?
  5. I didnot enlist them in particular order, just started with our hit man and gradually went to the back four. So far so good, Lucas isn't there for now:) IMHO Torres should much more dribbling ability and skill just after his arrival. In his first season I thought he isn't worse on the ball than Henry in his hey day. But after so many strings of injuries, which never let him fire on all cylinders, I reckon he turned into a compilation player - he shows some flashes, but has heave touched, that fortunately goes unnoticed, because he scored so many spectacular goals and has probably the best finisher in the world. He is just like Fowler, who Robert Lee described as a striker who always puts is in the side of the net. Still think Torres deserves his spot in TOP 5, can't see big space between Skrtel and Agger, who also never recovered to his former best. Agger gets one belter pes season and shows his skill only when he recaptures his form, which takes usually around 2 months. Skrtel might not show sparks of genius, but in terms of first touch, one touch passing, chesting the ball and short passing he would be in my TOP 7 surely:)
  6. There are big differences in appreciation for Martin Skrtel, Lucas Leiva, Emiliano Insua or Maxi skill. Some say Lucas is better on the ball than Aquilani or Babel, while the others hail Agger's ability comparing him to raw primitive Middlesborough quality centre back Martin Skrtel. Some, including myself, can't get their head around how can Lucas ability on the ball can change from extremely poor to splendid (many RAWKers claim he has the best first touch in the team, not the reserves one), at least in the supporters view. So, the five we mention should be more or less the backbone of the team, that will only strenghten after takeover. I don't want to change this into another Rafa or Lucas thread, but picking Lucas in the TOP 5 is very provoking:) 1.Nando 2.Aquilani 3.Joe Cole 4.Gerrard 5.Glen Johnson
  7. 1. Can't compare Mascherano aged 23-26 with Hamann at the peak of his powers, when he gained experience and even more positioning sense. Hamann came to the club older than Mascherano is now. And Hamann wasn't considered the best in the world at relatively young age as Monsterano. 2. Controversial moment of a such a poll, when everyone wants to give him a punch. It's easy to underestimate Mascherano potential now when Rafa tenure has ended and many consider him worse than Houllier, the same who blessed him last year. But I will tell you one thing, funny, that Alonso, Benayoun, Mascherano and Sissoko leave and left for 3 of the best 5 clubs in the world and 4 out of 10-15. Can't remember that under Ged. 3. Can't remember the best club in the world and Champions League winner and Serie A best team being interested in Hamann or have I missed something? 4. I bet 20-30% of football followers asked about best DM in the world would say Masch. And that's a safe bet. Wonder how many would pick Hamann. Any ideas?
  8. 1.Lucas - there's a new habit, when Nando doesn't get a hat-trick or Gerrard doesn't score a last minute screamer, it has to be Lucas. He didn't score an own goal, no red card, he had winnig mentality throughout the game, he has to be a MOM, because it's great for his confidence and development. You might not know, but he is a second Zidane in the making, better than Fabregas (yes, on RAWK sam claim so) and will captain Brasil in next world cup and if he is not a Team of the Year next season, it means L'Pool fans didn't support him enough. Because no club, even Liverpool, is bigger than Lucas. 2. N'Gog, not as talented as our young Dunga, but scored after tremendous pass from our captain. But anyone would score after such a perfectly weighted ball, so he shouldn't be even mentioned. 3. Spearing, overshadowed by Lucas, in fairness had an easy job as Lucas orchestrated the midfield, but with some great advide and trickery display from new captain fantastic he made his mark on the game.
  9. Almost every single day I make my L'Pool transfer predictions and have so far well over 170 my transfer shortlist including ins, out, squad set up, homegrown quota as well, formations and so on and just realised I included Luke Young in over 30 of them as I knew his deal expires next year according to transfermarkt.de. I guess I went a bit mad, wouldn't be better to sing up Clyne for similar money or get cut price Caceres for 6-7 million? Reo Cocker is also free agent next summer and relishes playing at right back...Anyway, Miguel from Valencia is on his way out, only 2 million for him. Steinsson deal ends next summer, Belletti, Finnan all free as a stop gap. Madness. Can't we move for Rafinha, one year on his deal or promise Eboue more first team football, playing Johnson further forward? Young is ok, even though I prefer Salcido. Adam Matthews from Cardiff on Bosman next summer, very promising kid, next Bale in the making.
  10. It focused on Inter players as far as I remember. Spend more time on RAWK, just wanted to inspire something here:) Anyway, can't recall anyone mentioning Marquez there. I'll probably start a Marquez thread tomorrow, thanks for advice.
  11. I hope for a bidding war between Barcelona and Inter to extend the price up to 25 at least, anyway will be pleased with 25 million pounds and Rafa Marquez for example. Who would you pick to include in the deal. My vote goes for Rafael Marquez, whose price according to always well informed El Mundo Deportivo will be between 2.5-4 million pounds. If we sell Kyrgiakos for 2 and having sold Michaylov for around 1.5-1.8 and San Jose for 2.6 and to get Wilson (2 million so far) and Marquez for that price would be brilliant. Marquez will be realesed on free only if he teams up with Henry in New York Red Bulls. Hleb is also value at 3 million currently, while Caceres price won't go higher than 7 million and he can play anywhere across back four. Including J. Dos Santos or Fontas in the deals would also seem brilliant, but a pity as well, as they're just prolonged their deals and we could get them for 1 million combined. So for me Marquez is arguably the best option, he can also cover Mascherano destroyer position in the short term with his brilliant passing range.
  12. Javier Mascherano set to leave Liverpool after talks - Transfers - ESPN Soccernet Mascherano, who captained Argentina at the World Cup, spoke with manager Roy Hodgson after returning from holiday, having previously ignored the new manager's attempts to contact him. A source close to Mascherano told Soccernet: "The talks were extremely amicable. It was all done in a very nice way. Javier made it clear that he wanted to leave a year ago when he and the chance to go to Barcelona. "He was asked to stay on for one more year, he agreed, so now it is time for him to go. It was all very pleasant and it is now a question of the two clubs who are interested in him making an acceptable offer to Liverpool." Hodgson held talks with skipper Stephen Gerrard and convinced him to stay, but has failed to convince Mascheran, who now looks likely to rejoin former manager Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan or seal a move to Spanish champions Barcelona, who are looking to replace Yaya Toure after admitting defeat over Arsenal's Cesc Fabregas.
  13. Torres PaulMcc and fungus approve my version. Don't you find it ridiculous to ask what' s with 51 million if you mentioned 50 million price tag? It's also funny when you ask for quotes, specific data without making any attempt to do the same. Anyway, we can agree that Rafa didn't want to sell him last summer, 50 million or more was supposed to fend off any interest and that's what happened. I'd like Mascherano future to be resolved in next several days. Some cash flow can determine us buying for example Ziegler, Emanuelson, Monreal or Taiwo instead of Salcido or Shorey. And can allow us to buy some right back cover, with Ujfalusi, Reveillerre, Srna, Rafinha and Eboue, not to mention Bosingwa, entering final years of their contracts.
  14. He has not said he is worth 50, he indicated that he is the heartbeat of the team and therefore priceless. He put no price tag on him and said no offer will be accepted.
  15. Pidge I know that, but as far as I know, we need 8 homegrown players in 25, so I had to put Kelly and Pacheco there. Wilson isn't homegrown, contrary to what many think.
  16. I think Ince is much more gifted. Don't treat my opinion too seriously, I don't watch both of them on a weekly basis full time, but for me majority of our 1990-1991 are weak, with the exception of Ayala and Lauri Dalla Valle, maybe Bruna has some talent about him. Younger lads are much more exciting. Kacaniklic won't make it at the top level I guess, so it'll be nice to cash in on him soon, just like with Michaylov or San Jose.
  17. Sale: El Zhar 1 Benayoun 6 Insua 5 San Jose 2.6 Voronin 1.8 Degen 1.2 Dossena 4.4 Cavalieri 2 Kyrgiakos 2 Nemeth 1.5 Riera 3.3 Plessis 0.7 Darby 1 Spearing 1.5 Michaylov 1.8 Lucas 5 Threllfall, Odlfield, Pepper, Martyn, Buchtmann, Flora, Duran 2 Babel 9 I included trainee equivalents for lads who departed like Pepper, Duran, Threllfall and so on. All in all it's around 51 million. Buy: Wilson 2 Shelvey 1.7 Sterling 800 Salcido 3 Taiwo 6 Luke Young 2 Mexes 8 Annan 10 Acquafresca 7.5 Arda Turan 10 Salcido is available officially for 3 million pounds now. Mexes, Taiwo, Annan and Young deals expire next year, Annan in December. Acquafresca might be even cheaper than that. He scored around 25 goals in Serie A being 20-22, now he is 23. Arda is wing wizard, we love him and he loves us. Somehow, our additions are also valued together at 51 million:) I put N'Gog, Ayala, Kacaniklic, Amoo and Eccleston available for loan. That's my squad: 1. Niemi 2. Johnson 3. Skrtel 4. Aquilani 5. Agger 6.Taiwo 7.Pacheco 8. Gerrard 9. Torres 10. J Cole 11.Acquafresca 12.Gulasci 13.Luke Young 14. Jovanovic 15.Mexes 16. Annan 17. Rodriguez 18. Kuyt 19. Arda Turan 20. Mascherano 21. Salcido 22. Wilson 23. Carragher 24. Martin Kelly 25. Reina Johnson, Gerrard, Cole, Young, Pacheco, Gulasci, Carragher and Kelly are homegrown according to new rule. So there are eight of them, exactly as we need:)
  18. Trucker Paddy exactly 8 homegrown playes
  19. I absolutely agree. Watching highlights from ressies and Borrell side from last year I thought he is on the par with Pacheco, which may be far fetched and exeggerated, but I think he is better than Bruna, Kacaniklic, Nemeth, N'Gog, Ayala, even LDV. He is very cool on the ball and seems to have at least two options when he receives the ball. He never gets enough recognition, people seem to be more excited with Sterling, Silva or Amoo, while the last one is a headless chicken for me, talented though. Ince and Pacheco should feature more next term. I would play Ince ahead of Aquilani on Thursday, with Spearing as back up. Jovanovic on the left and Amoo or Eccleston on the right. Don't get me wrong, I'd play Lucas, but have a feeling we will sell him this summer.
  20. Whiskeyjar I know you admitted a mistake, which I appreciate, but it doesn't totally change my viewpoint. You suggest I make Lucas the worst player in the squad, which is ridicoulous. I consider him so-so, on the par with Degen, Dossena, Voronin, worse than Insua, Riera, Kyrgiakos and Benayoun on their positions. I just can't stand singling out Lucas as the top performer in any game he plays. People saying he in on the par with Mascherano or even better. The ones saying he is second Stevie G. The ones saying he was among top 3 performers in the season. The ones saying he is an attacking midfielder and Rafa prevented his development. The ones saying he is techniqually better than Aqua. There are many like that. Just try to look for compilations from this season games and Lucas has arounf 10-12, twice more than Mascherano, Reina or Torres, not to mention Aqua, who started 9 games this season and almost all of them are memorable than any of Lucas (except Man United maybe, but what the hell are Everton or Stoke Lucas compilations) I understand you included Lucas plot in the response, now I know why, sorry to offend you in this area. Still, I hate the fact you're implying me thinking he is the worst in the team. I never wrote it, you created it in your mind.
  21. Whiskeyjar Almost noone hates Lucas for no reason. If Nunes, Josemi, Cheyrou or Diao were poor and I can pluck up enough courage to say so, does it mean I am bad, because I hate L'Pool footballers and I should love them? The problem is with them, not me. Sale with Lucas. We should have gone for McArthur, one year on his contract. Same with Bodmer. Mahamadou Diarra will be a free agent soon. As we have enough playmakers now I think we can look for a player who is good in the areas you mentioned - breaking up the opposition play. And there are many better than - Marchena, Somoza, Ottl, Khedira, Donadel, N'Zonzi, Torosidis, Assuncao are all bargains better than him
  22. Whiskeyjar I mentioned Pacheco goal and referred to his position in the team, you referred it to Lucas, which I didn't do. Spearing has great pass, you write it's Lucas. No one wrote here he is the worst in the team, but some people praised him and Speo for today game, so we had to react. To sum up, you see what doesn't happen and refers to something, that wasn't written. What's more, you imply others problems. Typical for mental disease or alcoholism.
  23. I have no clue what our depth in the hole has to do with Lucas. It wasn't related to holding midfield, you're really obsessed with Lucas:) Kidding mate, but you refer to something others don't write and think other players good passes are Lucas passes, while his bad passes aren't his passes. I also defended Lucas, but gave up, because I noticed I was fooling myself. I wish you make such a comingout in front of the mirror tonight:)
