Trent’s basically made the same mistake in midfield last weekend. He’s good for at least one of those lapses of concentration a game. Today it was compounded by us being narrow and Matip being ahead of him when he let the ball slip under him. Shit like that is why I don’t want him in midfield, especially as an inverted fullback. In my mind at least it’s better if that happens on the wing where presumably you’d have cover behind you and at the least the ball isn’t as close to the center of the goal. So the attacker has more ground to cover to shape up a shot. Overall point being, it doesn’t really matter where he plays at the moment because he loses concentration in what should be fundamentally easy situations. I think it’s easier to hide that when he’s at RB but the real lesson is that he needs to do better because anywhere it happens it’s a problem.

I’m not entirely sure what’s going on officially but the commentary here said he didn’t get a yellow for throwing the ball on the pitch but they thought he did originally.

Looked like he got both the ball and the player to me at the same time. Player never had control, they’re about level with eachother certainly Van Dijk is level with the ball. Anywhere else on the pitch and I’m not sure it’s a yellow, let alone a straight red. I can see the logic of denying a goal scoring opportunity but for me it goes out the window when the player has yet to control the ball and the defender is right there at the same moment it arrives. We’ve just seen a similar incident on Mac Alister in the middle and it’s not even a card.

Think that’s Klopp’s logic too. Diaz was again looking like our main threat but he’s also the least versatile of our attackers on the pitch.

Agree with that. Problem for me is that I think the inverted fullback compounds our spacing issues. Trent gets the ball in the middle and there’s a big Trent sized hole on the right flank with no one from either team occupying it. So his options are to play it safe with to keep possession, try to carry it through a crowded center, pass it short through the same center or play the Hollywood ball. When you consider that it hasn’t seemed to actually improve our defensive qualities it’s very frustrating to say the least. FFS red card for Mac Allister for attempting a block and missing.

Agreed but it was a stupid fucking challenge and we’re historically too honest in those situations.

Every time I see Jota's starting a game I assume our attack will be disjointed in the final third, especially if he's starting in the middle of the front 3. I think he's best used wide left and even then as a sub to run at tired defenses rather than from the start.

Absolutely not. Salah went missing after his disallowed goal sure but none of the forwards got any service from open play after that except Darwin late on from a mishit pass by Mac Allister who was otherwise very good today. If we sell Salah we’d need to buy a forward to replace him plus the 2-3 players we already need.
