  1. Hmmm....personally, I'd want someone who'd give us the best chance to keep on winning leagues, season after season (not just no19, but 20, 25 etc). So, I would "consider" this as an option even if Kenny won the league because I think Guardiola is a more talented manager than Kenny. However, I wouldn't necessarily be intent or set on this because I don't know for sure how Guardiola would adapt and settle in the PL, and, hence, that he'd necessarily be a better option than Kenny. However, as Guardiola is a very open-minded and intelligent person, has a keen interest in languages and cultures; and from what I have heard and read about him, if he was planning on coming to the PL, he has the sort of mindset and thirst for knowledge, that would've enabled him to already have a good understanding of the PL and the strengths and weaknesses of the teams in it; I think he would be a success in the PL. So, I would be "open" to the idea of appointing Guardiola as manager even if Kenny wins the league, as I feel Guardiola can take us to greater heights than Kenny. I know it sounds harsh - and I love Kenny and winning no19 under him would be more special and emotional than anyone else, especially to see his beaming smile - but, I would want a manager who gives LFC the best chance to maximise our potential, win as much as possible/available, for a sustained period. Personally, I don't think Kenny is that man. But I hope and would be delighted if I'm proved wrong.
  2. I'm aware of that mate, but it's the trophies you have to show at the end of the season that counts; and I was only repeating what the players of that era [87-88] have said themselves. *I didn't consider 89 season due to the tragic circumstances...Obviously football/winning and judging anyone was pretty irrelevant and moot.
  3. I was only a kid, but am pretty familiar with the type of football we played under him (best ever seen on these shores) and how his team, specifically, 87-88 is lauded by educated neutrals. Although, something also highlighted by ex players of that era, we only finished with the league title that year (I know sounds ridiculous in the current circumstances!).
  4. I know it's controversial, but I meant regardless of how well Kenny does next season, due to Guardiola's standing in the game, what he has achieved in his short career as manager, his tactical nous, and clamor from other PL club's, perhaps, most notably Man U, for his services; and how much further Guardiola (possibly) could elevate LFC? Just a lighthearted Q, that's all.
  5. If Chlesea get AVB, I'm wondering if they would try to entice Steve Clarke as they have a good relationship?
  6. Naah....For starters, he already has experience of the English game and also speaks very good English!
  7. This is a genuine question, as I'm curious - regardless of how the King does next season, if Guardiola, as expected, becomes available next summer, and for a variety of reasons LFC would appeal to him; anyone want FSG to consider him as an option and not miss out on him to another PL club?
  8. Say we had hired Villas Boas; while I do agree that he might coach until his 70th birthday or longer, what are the odds he'd stick with us for more than 4 or 5 of those years if he was to be successful? Who's to say he won't do a Mourinho and travel through Europe for his entire career? He has no "natural" connection to Liverpool after all. That's the case with any manager you hire, though. Surely, we should hire the manager who is best for the job and not who has a connection with the club? We also don't know if AVB or any other foreign manager wouldn't develop the sort of affinity for LFC that Wenger has for Arsenal. I just don't see why VB would be a more long term solution than Kenny, who will stick around for another 10-15 years if his health permits it (I take it for granted that he'll provide success). But if VB was more successful (and this is purely hypothetical just like all of us believing that Kenny will be as well), than that would provide a better long term solution. I'm just putting it out there, from my view of what I think will be the best route for LFC to take (success is what we are all united in, anyway). Don't know if that warrants name calling from some quarters. I'm a delicate soul:biggrin:
  9. This guy was really highly rated years ago at R Plate as well mate, but none of the big teams took a chance on him. If he does come to the PL, it will be interesting to see how he gets on.
  10. Firstly, I also love Kenny as much as the next guy mate And against Ferguson, Wenger , Mancini and one of the typical Chelsea appointments next season, with a squad of his choice, it wouldn't've surprised me in the slightest if Kenny delivered the PL title. However, as an example, in the Europa we should've done a lot better. I would've preferred someone else for the long term. Did FSG's perception of the fans love for Kenny and the possible fallout (in their eyes) not play a part in not contemplating appointing someone else for the long term, and not pursuing AVB, for example? That's what I meant by the "sentimental" aspect mate. I want LFC to get back to prominence once again - and with how poor the PL is, combined with the zoo Chelsea and Man City are, the fact that Arsenal aren't exactly excelling; and Man U are quite a moderate side, actually - I think we wouldn't had a realistic chance of doing this and be the top dogs for many years to come. I'm not saying Kenny couldn't've done that to a certain extent, certainly in the similar circumstances of all the other clubs in the PL last season, but, I think AVB would've been better for LFC's quest for long term sustained success than Kenny. *I'm thinking where LFC should be in the long term on a consistent basis, and being able win and challenge in this vain, especially bearing in mind that characters like Guardiola and Mourinho could turn up in the PL in the foreseeable future. I wanted a manager who would be able to meet these challenges; not just now, but in years to come. I rate Kenny more highly than Wenger, Mancini, and in some aspects, Ferguson ie tactically. So, I am a fan of the man and, in normal circumstances, would've been chuffed to bits with his appointment. Still would've been, in the short-term, at least, against the likes of Ferguson, Wenger and Mancini. Now, this is purely hypothetical, subjective and probably a daft point as well (but humour me) - if AVB IS appointed at Chelsea, meets all their objectives and turns out to be a better manager than the King (which I think he will be); could this appointment still me seen as totally rational and a wholly unemotional one? In fairness, best to wait and see how next season unfolds. I think AVB would've absolutely immense at LFC. Edit: The S Clarke factor does give me additional confidence, generally, though.
  11. If he goes to Chelsea, I think he will be absolutely sensational. This guy is very special, and the move to the PL wouldn't come too soon. People talk about how young he is, but he also started Coaching from a young age - 17yrs! Not to mention what he has already achieved, including playing a big part in Chelsea's success under Mourinho, which Mourinho acknowledges. Villas Boas is the guy I wanted as manager this summer, ahead of Kenny. I think he will turn out to be a far better manager than Kenny. As much as we love Kenny and he did an excellent job on his return, I fear missing out on Villas Boas, will prove that appointing Kenny was a sentimental and short-sighted decision. I'd fancy Chelsea to win the PL next season with Villas Boas in charge.
  12. Iantn: 22 year old left/right winger from Sevilla. Bargain at that price. What's he like with his: Crossing? Dribbling? Ability to beat a man? *Any player, past or present, he is comparable to?
  13. Porto beat Vitoria Guimaraes 6-2 in the Portuguese Cup Final to win the treble in Villas Boas' first season in charge. He is the guy I wanted even before they won all these trophies, this just confirms his talent.
  14. I think he has become the youngest ever manager to win a European trophy. Very impressive. He'll be going for the treble this coming Sunday....If they achieve it, I wonder how many more records he would've broken in the process.
  15. Europa League Final tonight...All Portuguese affair: FC Porto v SC Braga (who knocked us out) 7:45pm kick off. Channel 5 coverage starts at 7:15pm. If Porto win it, they will be going for the treble against Vitória de Guimarães in the Portuguese Cup Final this Sunday, 22nd May.
  16. Damien Duff signed for Blackburn in 1996, the year Kenny departed Blackburn, I think, as their DOF. Don't know how much of a hand Kenny had in signing Duff or if he did most of the groundwork to have the deal in place. Duff was signed from Irish club Leicester Celtic. Interestingly, though, St. Kevin's Boys was one of the other clubs he played for in Ireland.
  17. Thanks for taking the time to post this mate.
  18. FC Spartak Moskva 2-5 FC Porto in 2nd leg of Europa League Q final. That's 3-10 on aggregate!
  19. Maddock is also reporting the Sakho link: Liverpool will turn to France's next major star Mamadou Sakho if their campaign to land Gary Cahill ends in failure. Anfield boss Kenny Dalglish has earmarked the Bolton and England centre half as a major priority when he is given funds in the summer. But the Reds manager is painfully aware that Wanderers are determined to hold out until the bidding reaches £20million. And with moneybags Manchester City also in the race, Dalglish has wisely lined up a back-up, with 21-year-old Sakho his preferred choice. The Paris St Germain defender has already made a massive impact in France after winning his first full cap in the recent victory over England. Sakho is doubly attractive because he can also play left back as well as centre half, and would cost only half the fee Cahill is likely to command. Dalglish has other targets, with Aston Villa's Ashley Young, Charlie Adam of Blackpool and Ipswich wonderboy Connor Wickham, who only turned 18 last week, on his list. The Liverpool boss wants to concentrate on exciting young stars, after presiding over a massive improvement in the youth structure at Anfield since he returned to the club 18 months ago. King Kenny gave teenager John Flanagan his debut against City on Monday night, and wasn't disappointed as the defender turned in an immaculate performance. And his display was further proof of the giant strides made with young players coming through the ranks in the past 12 months. Dalglish originally returned to the club as an ambassador with special responsibility for academy recruitment, and he has maintained that interest by promoting several kids into his first team squad. Liverpool have seriously failed to develop young, local talent in the past decade, since Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher burst onto the scene at the end of the 1990s. Yet this season Jay Spearing and Martin Kelly have already established themselves, along with Jonjo Shelvey and now Flanagan knocking at the door. Other exciting young stars such as Conor Coady, Jack Robinson, Andre Wisdom, Raheem Sterling and 16 year old goalscoring sensation Adam Morgan all seem to have a big future at Anfield, and Dalglish wants to ensure that happens by continuing to identify the best young talent. Flanagan showed enough in 90 minutes against England winger James Milner to suggest he can make the grade, and previous academy graduate Carragher believes it is a massive boost for the future of the club. "I'm delighted for John and I think it gives the whole club a lift when you see a local lad come through - the supporters love it," he said. "I think at the Academy it gives all of them a lift. The young lads at the Academy, it shows them it can be done. "There's a bit of competition now between him and Kelly for the local lads. It's great for everyone really that you've got two local lads like that coming through. "To be honest there's a few more down there so it's up to them lads to take their chance. Flanno's done that, but I'm pretty confident that there are more down there."

  21. That'd be really ace if you could mate. Thanks. And Thanks Steve for posting the original article.
  22. Anyone who's seem a bit of McCarthy, is he quicker than Shelvey?
  23. This one's for you, Lance: The agent of Rubin Kazan's Cristian Ansaldi claims Liverpool are interested in signing the defender. The versatile Argentinean, who has Italian citizenship, can play either left-back or right-back. Pedro Aldave said: "There has been some informal market interest from Liverpool and Atletico Madrid. "I think he pays for the fact he plays in Russia, otherwise he would be in the national team. His contract with Rubin Kazan expires in December 2012 and he has no buy-out clause. "Cristian wants to go away. He would love to play in England, Italy or Spain." Source: Daily Post
