  1. Allmost every time I click on a new thread, or new page, I get a picture of this bird. Quite pleasing on the eye, but somewhat confusing.
  2. That makes 2 of us Andriy, he'll probably be sold to someone else anyway.
  3. In the absence of any match action at the moment (which includes watching Everton this afternoon), I've been thinking about what I regard as our achilles heel under Rafa, which is set pieces. Or rather, why are we SO poor at attacking them, and often so vulnerable defending them (i'd love to know if there is a single premiership team, with the exception of Spurs, which has as a poor ratio for attacking-defending set pieces as we do)? Now, i don't want to turn this into a discussion about zonal marking. So let's stick to attacking them. Attacking them is my biggest gripe - unless Sami is playing, we don't even threaten from them (and why does Jamie not go up for them - leave the fullbacks behind and send the big guys up!). Add to that what feels like years of dreadful deliveries from Gerrard (who should be IN the box as one of our main attacking forces) or Xabi (just never puts it in the right place at the right pace), and our set pieces are little more than a goalkick for the opposition. Why do people think we are so ineffectual at set pieces? Is it entirely down to coaching? Or to the personnel? Well - for me, at the very least, Rafa fails to understand their importance in the english game (yes, they're not so important in Spain where short corners and retaining possession is key), but it's rather an indictment of the coaching team that we're consistently so poor at set pieces, and that nothing gets done about this. That's the most frustrating aspect of this achilles heel - it's Rafa's blind-spot, just as Houllier's was width, or Evans's was central defence. Related question: what would you DO? Aurelio ought to be our set piece specialist, when he's playing, and as mentioned earlier I;d send both centre-backs up.
  4. Andriy Voronin would be happy to return to Liverpool Feb 10 2009 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post ANDRIY VORONIN has offered to help Liverpool’s championship challenge by returning to Anfield. The Ukrainian was loaned out to Hertha Berlin last summer after Rafael Benitez deemed him surplus to requirements following the acquisition of Robbie Keane. Voronin has proven a success in the German capital, with Hertha currently third in the Bundesliga just two points behind surprise leaders Hoffenheim. But with Keane having departed last week and Benitez unable to bring in a replacement, Voronin has suggested he is willing to cut short his season-long loan and bolster Liverpool’s attacking options. “There have not been any talks between (Hertha general manager) Dieter Hoeness, my agent and me,” said the 29-year-old. “We want to have talks with Berlin quickly, although I know my agent has been talking to Liverpool recently. “I still have a contract there. And now Keane has been sold. Before he came last summer I was playing regularly under Rafael Benitez. “They have a shortage of strikers now. I would enjoy staying at Hertha but, if I am not to stay on, I will give my very best until the very end.” icLiverpool - Andriy Voronin would be happy to return to Liverpool
