  1. I know it doesn't really add much to the discussion about the football season, but my favourite Carly Simon song is Let the river run.

This song was used quite prominently in the film Working Girl starring Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver. I often think it would have been quite cool to be have been an office worker in 1980s New York.

Apropos of nothing, Sigourney Weaver's real name is Susan.

The main issue I have sticking to a strength training program. I have this week started Doing stronglifts 5x5 as I like the idea of it and it seems achievable (starting very light to get the correct form) but motivation has always been a problem for me when training alone if I’m honest I just need to build that consistency.

hopefully when the gyms reopen I can go back to CrossFit as the one I went to didn’t have too many of the stereotypes as the time of the class i usually went to were very varied age wise and mostly a little bit older than me and the ‘coach’ is pretty normal with more focus on doing the exercise correctly or adapting for injuries.

Stronglifts 5x5 beats you up pretty quickly. I'd recommend either the Novice Linear Progression by Starting Strength (or Barbell Logic), or the Beginner Prescription by Barbell Medicine.

Stronglifts was put together by some chancer (Medhi?) whereas the others have been put together by experienced lifters. They also all have YouTube channels to get the form correct.

Plus, 5 sets of 5 takes forever.

But you're right - consistency is key. You just need to do the work, 3 times a week, every week, and not jump from one programme to the next.

Weird, I was only thinking about her the other day. Definitely has sex appeal, and I reckon would be a danger fuck. Probable bunny boiler.

  4. So far this year I've had Covid, Long Covid, Shingles and high cholesterol - but none of it compares to the bastard splinter I got in my thumb this morning. Fucking hell. I think it'd be less painful just to chop my whole hand off. The twat has retreated and I can't even see it now.

  5. Nearly at the end of Resident Evil Revelations 2 on the Switch, and have really enjoyed it. I remember getting the original RE on the PS1 and it was wild coming from a SNES. Have some of the others (and still own several GameCube versions) but tempted to go for Zero and RE remake.

Have played this one mostly handheld - in fact, I don't think I've played it on

Yep, that’s the game I referenced. Leverkusen at home, he was brilliant as well.

Pretty sure he he started at least one of the Juventus matches and he definitely started the second leg v Chelsea.

If Igor can be part of a Champions League winning squad, so can Nat Phillips.

Yes he played the away Juventus game - a midfield of Antonio Nunez, Igor Biscan, Xabi Alonso and John Arne Riise. Quite the rum bunch!

It's a fucking sad state of affairs isn't it. But it needs to be remembered a lot of this is Labour's doing too. The original 3 candidates got pulled, nobody has a clue what's happening, others refusing to stand because the rug was pulled from under those candidates, so you're almost at last (wo)man standing.

To be honest, I think this just plays into Yip's hands. And I'm beginning to think that's a good thing.

What is it about Yip you think would make him a good mayor of Liverpool?

What a fucking mess.  I hate Tories with a passion, but it's difficult to perceive how they could possibly do a worse job fronting up the city than the shower of morons that have been in charge for the last 40 odd years.

The Lib Dems (locally) did ok? Never warmed to Warren Bradley though, thought he was weird.

Plus, they had David Henshaw in charge at the council. For better or worse he didn't take any shit.

Monster hunter rise is released on 26th March, being touted as the best game on Switch since Breath of the Wild. Strong praise, available at www.shopto.net for £34.85 instead of £49.99. If it really is that good, this could go up in price after release as it could sell by the bucket load.

Yeah it's getting great reviews across the board. I'm not sure it's for me but it does sound good.

Was the shop called bits n’ bytes?

I remember one of them getting arsey with me when I was asking for a back up board for my c64. I was about 10 years old and this righteous cunts giving me lessons on morality. Probably trying to groom me but I was too angry to notice

Bits and Bytes was Central Station - it's been the Leather Shop ever since. Half the games from there never worked (although I think that was just the tech of the time).  But whenever I walk past I do reminisce!

  12. I've had the misfortune to work in the Liverpool public sector since 2006 and most of the local councillors are only interested in getting their pictures in the weekly newspapers to impress their neighbours. They ignore the advice of experienced officers and just do what they think will make them look good. They use council press teams as their personal PR and unfortunately nobody will stand up to them (until now, maybe).

I have a mate who was the PA for one of the Merseyside mayors and he was constantly pissed - she'd turn up at his house to pick him up for a function and he'd already have been drinking.

    They're all tin pot.
