  1. No need to agree with anything, what you've stated is fact. The simple approach was presented as a solution to our problems, I'm pointing out that it isn't, and that football has moved on from the days when we can impose that kind of philosophy and win games. I'm not advocating anything.
  2. Did I say it has no place in the modern game? The original point made was that football should just simply be what was described. This is fine, when you're Barcelona, or Arsenal and have the squad and players to implement such a simple and effective system. Do you however, believe for a random example, that we'd have beaten Chelsea in either CL semi-final with just that as our philosophy and approach? If you disagree, then you agree with my original point that football has evolved beyond that simple ideology, which is only effective in circumstance.
  3. Rafa tried to make us a more attacking and ruthless side after 08-09. Look at the buys he made in the summer, he brought in Glen Johnson, an exciting attacking full-back to compliment Kuyt and cause more troubles for defences. He brought in Aquilani, who when played increased the tempo of our game, got some one touch passing going and improved us going forward. A less defence minded player than Alonso. We also began the season with a high line, trying to press teams higher up the pitch. Unfortunately, for one reason or another it didn't come off, and we were in big trouble so we had to play a more defensive game. However, the intent was definitely there, trying to turn those pesky draws into wins.
  4. Much easier than having to answer for the silly claims and hypocritical digs you made I guess. Just wondering, is that you would say passes for football discussion?
  5. I can find so many examples of that on this forum by 'great posters' it's too easy. So what's your point? Go on, tell me what's your experience in football? You were making comments about our coaching methods under Rafa and Houllier, care to back that up with a source? It's a much, much, more classy debating tactic than 'Gary Twat Legend, Gobshite, Blert and 'Now fuck off.' - Is the 'Now fuck off' you're attempt to claim a victory?
  6. Go review my initial post. I'm not pretending I've won, we were having a debate about our football style and what's wrong with us. You got very sour, and starting slinging insults. I engaged you in a discussion about football, and you just randomly called me 'Gary Twat Legend' and said you wouldn't debate with me. Literally out of nowhere, classy. By the way, just for reference, my stupid game being football discussions right?
  7. Ahh yes, doing exactly what you told me not to. Pot, Kettle, black. P.S - In future, if you run out of things to say, just concede the debate. Less rude than calling me names xx
  8. We've been coached for years almost solely to defend? Was that so when we've been registering some of the highest goals scored and shots made at goal over the years? Are Gerrard, Torres, Kuyt and our other scorers just that good that despite having no coaching in attacking that they are able to score so many goals? Did we beat Real Madrid 4-0 by solely defending? Furthermore, do you work on our coaching staff? A matter of record according to who? Please, do post up your source for that. A balanced team? That is very general, you'll have to elaborate on that. You don't seem to support your claim that defensive football doesn't get you results in this league. I take it you retract that? I make plenty of efforts to discuss the topic at hand. The people who seem to get on well here are the cunts who fire random shots in the dark, Hamstrung for one. Am I not engaging you right now discussing football with you? Yet you're still getting pissy, that's the problem on here.
  9. So you don't appreciate that football may have changed over the last 30+ years?
  10. It's really not terribly simple like that. Then again, I imagine you've never experienced football beyond 5 a side? The problem is Hodgson's tactics here. He wants us to build and attack high up the pitch, this means our distribution from the back is random and inconsistent, starving our forward players of regular possession in dangerous errors. Bar the final season, Rafa had it mostly right (Not always) with Xabi in the team, we'd build from the back and pick passes. Often with a quick tempo. You don't know what players want. It does not get you results in English football? I bet Jose Mourinho will argue otherwise. We suffered it through Ged, but even then we qualified for the CL on occasion and finished 2nd in the league one season. With Rafa, we played a more possession based game, but we could definitely mix it up and play with a high tempo as shown on several occasions.
  11. I'm just worried now that defenders are going to be able to kick lumps out of Nando, and after Slurs disgraceful attack on him ref's will let them get away with it. Still grates me that Roy let that slide and didn't mention Nani!
  12. Can't argue with any of that. The system is the major issue, exposes our weaknesses and lays them out on a plate for anyone and everyone to take advantage of.
  13. Is it still not worth raising the point, so that the next time someone goes to buy their ticket they may reconsider?
  14. The 'wrong man in the wrong job' crew should also cease whining like a bunch of bad homs and stop paddling. You agree?
  15. I'm sorry but those 'jumping' in to defend Dave like a pack, can they point out where anyone actually personally called Dave into question? Sounds like a lot of over-reacting. A few pointed out we should be boycotting, all of a sudden it was a personal attack on an individual?
  16. Could you not have found room for this in another thread? Or is your opinon that important
  17. By the same logic you're using, does this mean anyone who wanted Rafa out last year enjoyed watching the team fail?
  18. Such knee-jerking in here it's unbelievable. You'd think this kind of result and match were a new experience for us. Look, the squad Roy inherited from Rafa is not as shit as some are making out. He's had players like Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt, Mascherano, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Carra, Reina, Aquilani, Cole, with players like Pacheco, Kelly, Spearing, Babel, N'Gog, Jovanovic, Maxi as peripherals. We were undoubtedly player for player much better than Northampton last night, we were also at Anfield, spin it how you like, you cannot use the squad and players as an excuse for Roy. He has to take full blame for getting outplayed in this game and beaten. The issue was here before kick-off, it's the system he has in place, it just simply is not working for us. I knew we would get outplayed before the game started, I even posted it on here, If he persists with it, we will not even manage a top half finish. I was pretty vocal against Hodgson's appointment at the time, but 'he's here, get on with it' would be an apt phrase for this situation. He has the players for a top 4 finish and good cup run, he just needs to change the system.
  19. This forum is going to shit so quickly. This thread, and posts like this: I'm not singling you out for blame mate, plenty of 'experienced' posters on here come out with drivel like this daily. Probably should put a rule in saying you can't start new threads until you've reached 500-1000 posts. Would help congestion.
