  1. .....fact........allegedly (if rumours are true).... These don't go together really, do they? It's round the corner from me and I've heard fifteen different versions of "what definitely happened" and in every single one it's fuck all to do with football and everything to do with violent bellends who want any excuse to batter someone. Everton, rightly, said in the Echo yesterday that they don't want to do anything that could be seen to comment on it while the investigation is ongoing.
  2. Fucking great day. Broughton seems to be the major factor in this. The reconstituted board as a condition of his appointment appears to have been the single biggest gamebreaker. He seemed to keep his profile reasonably low and his head quite cool pending the arrival of a "suitable" (let's not count any chickens) bid. It would appear Broughton has conducted something of a corporate masterclass and taken Hicks to school with it. To me, Purslow today reminds me of Josemi being next to Gerrard on all the photos after the European Cup win.
  3. Yep. Completely agree. Thanks for your service and some great nights, but now it's time for a new manager who just wants to get the ball out.
  4. Thanks Rafa, but please don't say a thing. Please try to put personal emnity towards the fucking cowboys to one side, difficult thought it may be, and put the supporters first. I have no desire to witness the press and telly feeding frenzy that will ensue (far worse than anything we've suffered so far) if it turns into a public slanging match.
  5. Perhaps the protest is about the treatment of the manager of the club, it just happens that that person is currently Benitez.
  6. I agree with a lot of that. I think his tactics and first XI were pretty damn good for 2007-2009, but the problem is that the system he uses relies on the 3-4 players responsible for the bulk of creating/scoring chances being of very high quality. The fact is that we just can't assemble a squad of enough depth to allow us to maintain enough quality in those positions when Gerrard and Torres are unavailable or off form. This means he needs a proper Plan B to enable the lesser players to still maintain the capacity to create chances and win games. His big downfall last season was the absence of this Plan B.
  7. Well done on your hindsight. Sami didn't want to be 4th choice and couldn't have anticipated what would happen to our defenders. Perhaps more could have been done, but the bottom line was regular first team footy for him and we, rightly at the time, couldn't promise that. How did he ruin our "best chance of winning the thing in years"? Again, the implication is that he had nothing to do with us being good enough to be in that position and the only contribution you're willing to attribute to him is if it is critical. You just undermine the credibility of your own arguments by doing so.
  8. Your effectively saying that a managers previous achievements mean nothing if he has a poor season. I don't even know why I'm surprised at such fickleness seeing as Paisley, Fagan and Dalglish have all had to put up with it during my time as a Red.
  9. I can only imagine how bad Didi's twitch will get when he's got Dunphy, Giles and Brady all ripping into him.
  10. I don't imagine there'd have been as many fans as keen to get rid of "too nice" Roy in 1998 if he'd taken taken us to two European Cup Finals.
  11. What was that someone said about him getting credit for the good things he does............? :whatever:
  12. Hyypia wanted to play as it was the end of his career. No-one was shouting for Agger or Skrtel to be dropped so he could play last season (apart from his farewell). He left to play games. The last paragraph is nonsense. Can't remember?
  13. "..he added 2 £18m players to a squad that finished 2nd, a year later we were 7th and down over 20 points. a different coach with a better menality to win games rather than play for a draw against relegation fodder will get alot more out of the current group of players" He didn't just add 2 players though, did he?. There were other changes in the squad. Alonso going. Hyypia going hurt us in hindsight after our 3 top class centre backs all were injured/badly out of form all at the same time. The same coach with the same mentality also got a lot more out of them in previous seasons. The poster makes it sound as though he inherited a team that finished 7th and took them down the table - as though it wasn't Rafa that took them to 2nd in the first place. There's plenty to criticise him for from last season, but let's at least be fair and give him credit for the good stuff he's done.
  14. The first bit is fair enough, but the second bit has significant errors.
  15. Always been Arsenal. The 70's and 80's just seemed to have an endless succession of horrible games against them where they'd always end up nicking a win with a really spawny goal. Cup finals and cup semi finals in particular. They were always horrible games to watch as well. I have to agrees with the posters who mention Middlesbrough. It's one thing having Chelsea or Fulham fans singing about "in your Liverpool slums" or "sign on, sign on" but fucking Middlesbrough? I've been to Middlesbrough on several occasions and it's a proper shithole. If I've missed the part which has all the polo clubs and yachting marinas then I'm clearly doing them a disservice and apologise.
