When it works it can still be impressive, but speaking broadly, he hasn't moved an inch since 2004, and has simply been fortunate enough that other teams have struggled at the right time in order to keep his top four place secure. Without that,he's dismissed immediately.

Was it? At the time of Villas-Boas' sacking, they had more points than they ever had at that point of a Premiership season. Yeah, there'd been some tonkings, but the bigger picture wasn't bad. Then Tim Sherwood took the helm. Obviously selling Suarez would be a huge mistake, but that's because he's a far better player than Bale could ever be. It's like comparing Maradona to Chris Waddle.

I agree. Who am I to question Sir Alex? Yet I cannot help but feel as though he'll be hounded out by an ignorant fan base unable to appreciate the monumental task he has to get last season's runaway champions into the top six.
