Charlie Adam believes that Jordan Henderson deserves a great deal of credit for evolving not only as a player but as a leader.The midfielder came to the club in the same transfer window as Henderson in 2011, and knows first hand the struggles the former Sunderland man had in his early days. Little did he know back then that years later the young Mackem would go on to lead the Reds to successive Champions League Finals, winning the second one to put himself alongside other great Liverpool skippers such as Emlyn Hughes, Phil Thompson, Graeme Souness and Steven Gerrard. Adam talked about his pride of Henderson’s development in the Blood Red podcast via the Echo."When I played with him he was a young kid coming in from Sunderland."It was a difficult time at the start and it takes mental strength to play at the top level, if you have a bad game you can’t get bogged down in what people are saying, you’ve just got to brush it off and go again.“He was playing out of position, it was difficult for him to get into the central midfield but as time passed, his importance as part of the club evolved over the years.“He’s a mainstay of the team now, he’s the captain.“He’s got a manager who trusts him, whether he plays at centre-back or central midfield, you can ask Jordan Henderson to play any position and he’ll give 110%, he’ll go and do his best.” Adam believes the value of Henderson is so important that the team feels his absence when he is not on the pitch.“I think Liverpool are a very different team when he doesn’t play. The dynamics of the team are different, he’s very underrated.“For me personally, I think he could be Player of the Year, that’s how much influence he has on the team.“You talk about Kevin De Bruyne, you talk about Harry Kane but Jordan Henderson as an individual sets the tone and the markers for everybody else to go and play.“He’s been terrific over the past few years and has grown into being Liverpool captain.”Adam was honest when asked whether he thought Henderson would ever be in this current position.“Did I envisage Jordan Henderson winning the European Cup as Liverpool captain?“Probably not. But how things have changed, and he’s become comfortable in the role and since coming in as a young lad starting out, every season he’s got better and better.“He’s played his best football this season that he’s probably ever played.“He’s worked his way into the role and is a terrific role-model for young kids on and off the pitch, you never see him in the press for anything wrong.”And the current Reading player believes that the 29 year-old can comfortably sit among the great leaders that the club have had over the years.“You could put him up there with the great Liverpool captains.“The great captains have been able to drag Liverpool through the mire, they’re the ones who have taken on the added responsibility.“And he’s accepted the role very well, he’s taken it in his stride and the performances he’s been producing have been incredible.“It’s a position he takes very, very seriously and he’s getting the rewards for that.”

Jürgen Klopp says that January signing Takumi Minamino took a big step forward after getting a extended outing against Wolves on Thursday evening. Like many of Jürgen Klopp’s signings in the past, the manager has looked to ease the Japanese international into the Premier League.But when Sadio Mane went down with a hamstring strain just after the half hour mark, he didn’t think twice to insert the 25 year-old into the action.He displayed plenty of calmness in possession making 28 passes and a couple of dribbles.It was his ability to be versatile in a number of formations which made Klopp sign him and the manager said that he showed that again against a tough opponent. The Official site reported Minamino as saying:"He's exactly the player we expected to get – super, super boy, super player.“You saw so many things of his ability. This game was a proper fight and he was completely ready for that.“We had to defend in a 4-4-2 then played offensive in our normal system. "If now Div [Origi] is coming on, who would deserve it, 100 per cent, because he is in incredible shape, it’s really very offensive very early in the game.He was fighting like crazy and closed gaps, was involved in a lot of situations. That was just a super start, to be honest. He’s pretty versatile so he can play different positions. “On (Thursday) night, it was exactly what he had to do and he did it. “It was a big step for him.”The manager said that his performance is just a brief snapshot of what he can produce especially as he is still learning the ropes.“For him, [it's] still kind of a new environment with a new team and then really adapting.“That's what we see in training. Then we see, of course, more of all the finishing stuff, the creating stuff. “It's just the player we wanted and now he's ours."Klopp also spoke about whether the minutes against Wolves will mean that he may not play a big role in the FA Cup tie against Shrewsbury on Sunday, especially as he battled through some calf tightness in the second half.“With Taki we have to think about what we do exactly now because yesterday he played much longer than we thought."I have to see how he reacted now on the intensity of that game – I don't know him long enough in this part, so we have to see. “But each game helps for sure."

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has once again praised the mentality of his team after the Reds showed great resolve to defeat a very impressive Wolves outfit on Thursday evening.Henderson put the visitors in front converting from a Trent Alexander-Arnold set corner in the eighth minute, but Wolves who are well known to save their best for the top echelon of clubs, gained parity when the outstanding Adama Traore set up Raul Jimenez as Liverpool conceded a goal for the first time in 725 minutes.A grandstand finish was now guaranteed with both teams pushing for the winner. Wolves were carving out the better chances, but as everyone knows, Liverpool just finds ways to win.And so it proved when Mo Salah and Henderson each played a role in setting up Roberto Firmino who scored the winner with six minutes remaining.Speaking after the game, Henderson said the team knew it was going to be a great challenge.The Official site (via BT) reported Henderson as saying: “You know it's going to be difficult here as we've seen over the season. “They're a good team, they make you work. “It was an intense game. We knew it'd be difficult but we knew to keep going, keep fighting. We defended really well, the big man and the back four were brilliant again.“We had some chances as well to put the game to bed, which I keep saying over the last couple of weeks, so that's something that we want to improve on and kill the game off earlier. "But [we] showed mentality again to keep going and finding that winning goal."Meanwhile Virgil Van Dijk who was again a colossus on the evening, echoed the thoughts of his captain. "First of all, you need to give them credit. “They played good, they have good players, they're difficult to break down. “In the second half they came at us more, creating more moments of danger. "We had to dig deep, we had to fight – that's something we can do as well. “Obviously we're not happy about the goal conceded but how we reacted on that is a good thing. We know we're always going to have chances. Wolves flyer Adama Traore has given praise to Liverpool as Wolves pushed the league leaders all the way in a gripping contest at Molineux on Thursday evening.Traore was a constant thorn in the side of the Liverpool side with his electric pace and drive from wide areas and his work was rewarded when he set up Raul Jimenez for the equaliser after Jordan Henderson’s opener.He continued to cause headaches as the home side pushed for the winner but the Reds held firm and got their rewards when Roberto Firmino was on the spot to score after some smart lead-up play by the captain and Mo Salah.Speaking after the game the former Barcelona youth player was glowing in his tribute to the league leaders.The Mirror via BT Sport reported the winger as saying:“We don't forget they are a great team, an amazing team and one of the best - or the best in Europe."Congratulations to them, how they are going in the league but we fight. We will fight to the end."The 23 year-old also said his team could take great heart of the performance.“Sad we didn't get the win or the draw but we have to keep pushing, working and taking the positive things, fight to the end.“Disappointed not to take points but we take the experience. Meanwhile, Jürgen Klopp was glowing in his comments of Traore after the match.“ He is unplayable in moments, it’s unbelievable.“What a player – it’s not only him but he’s so good."It is not the first time he has paid tribute to the Spaniard this season, saying this before the two teams met last month.“At Middlesbrough he was exceptional, but somebody had to give him the right information."You would never have thought he is that young, but he is still very young, and now he has found it (the right manager) It was always clear it would happen one day, and now it has. David Ngog has recalled his greatest moment in a Liverpool shirt after Mo Salah’s strike on the weekend against Man United brought back some fond personal memories.The Frenchman’s stint on Merseyside is not what you would call prolific or particularly memorable by any means, but one moment clearly stands out above all others.The late substitute wrapped up victory against Liverpool’s arch rivals when he was put through on goal by Lucas Leiva and side footed it past Edwin Van Der Sar in the United goal.The jubilant crowd reaction after sealing a victory following a poor run of form was matched by the players with goalkeeper Pepe Reina running the length of the pitch to jump into the arms of the striker.A similar reaction took place on Sunday with Allison and Salah embracing and Ngog certainly noticed the parallels as he told the Official site. “It's unbelievable how close it is.“It's different play of course – he has a longer run and he read it well against the defender. “But that was in the last minute, against Man United, it brings back memories.“ I was at home but I was with my family as well. I saw the two goals and I was happy because it's Liverpool and it's really important this season. "It was exciting. To be honest, at that time I was just watching, not thinking about the goal before. "But when I saw the replay and saw it was similar – and the celebration, of course, with Alisson running. It was really, really funny to watch."Ngog who is still just 30yo, has made many stops in his football career since leaving the Reds and English Football, taking him far and wide to Greece, France, Scotland and currently in Hungary.But it is the moment in October of 2009 which he recalls with pride. “I think it was one of my great memories when I was in Liverpool."Especially the celebration with Pepe, who was a great teammate, a great player, goalkeeper and a great guy.Ngog said that the celebration that took place was a pure spur of the moment thing that Football often delivers.“It was a surprise for me to see Pepe when I turned back to celebrate! Afterwards, it was just joy and you want to share with the fans and everybody. "It was a great memory. “The celebration is one of the best and it's just improvisation. “You don't really prepare for it, it just happens in the moment."Despite being well removed from playing for the club, he still holds the Reds very closely to his heart. And just like any fan, he hopes they go one step further this season.“They're in the best position possible.“I think Jürgen Klopp did a great job in getting everyone involved. “They play with a lot of energy and it's just great to watch. "I really hope – and I think – they will succeed this season."While Ngog struggled for consistent minutes, he views his time at the club where he made 94 appearances and scored 19 goals in an extremely positive light."I was in at a young age and had plenty to prove."I was surrounded by great players with great experience and I think I learned a lot from it. "For me, it's all good memories. "Of course you always want to do more but for me at that age it was a good achievement for me in my life and my career."

Luis Suarez has said that in his opinion Liverpool supporters are the best in World Football.The once-adored Uruguayan was public enemy number one for Reds fans in the semi final Champions League tie against Barcelona last May due to his running battles with Liverpool players, most namely Andy Robertson.The pair clashed on numerous occasions and Suárez was at his snidey best when he put the left-back out of action with a kick to the calf just before half time in the second leg.However as we know all too well, Robbo had the last laugh on that occasion. The antics were a taste of what opposition fans had known for years about the 32 year-old.You absolutely love to have him on your side, but when he wears the colours of the team you are coming up against then it is a whole different story.He is the ultimate competitor, he may not always go about it the right way, but it is his way of making sure his team is successful.Currently on the sidelines with a serious knee injury, Suarez spoke about how much the supporters meant to him in his 3 and a half seasons at the club.The Liverpool Echo via OTRO reported Suárez as saying"I would say amongst the best.“ They are amongst the best football fans because of all the love they always gave me during my time at Liverpool.“They have always loved me and treated me exceptionally well. “That's why they are amongst the best football fans in the world. "For me, the best."There has been plenty of discussion about the future of Suarez and if Barcelona will look to move on the veteran in the summer as they look to freshen up their front line. We were all over them for 10 minutes, they couldn’t get out, and obviously we’re disappointed with that because putting it to bed earlier then you’re not nervous near the end of the game. “That’s something that we obviously need to improve on a little bit.” The England international also discussed the impact of Van Dijk at set-pieces“He’s probably one of the, if not the, most prolific centre-halves in the league and to have someone like that, who is going into the box and putting his head on the end of things is fantastic“I think he’s showed that he’s probably the best centre-half in the world over the last 18 months and he showed that again today.“His defensive work probably goes a bit unnoticed because we’re so used to seeing it but you can’t take it for granted. "He's always there in the right places, the amount of headers he was getting out the box for us, winning headers off corners, is priceless for us.”

Liverpool are set to go head to head with rivals Chelsea for the signature of Bundesliga star Timo Werner according to reports.The RB Leipzig hotshot has averaged a goal a game (25 in 26) across all competitions this season and has undoubtedly alerted a number of big teams across Europe.The Mirror reports that Chelsea are in the market for a striker and are free to enter the market after their transfer ban was overturned.Werner is at the top of their list and are believed to already opened negotiations with the German international who has signalled his intent of testing himself in the Premier League. The Striker recently told Bild: "The Premier League is certainly the most interesting league, you have to say. "There is a certain flair to watching the English league and playing there." The interest from Chelsea has prompted Liverpool to make their move with Jürgen Klopp a known fan of the 23 year-old. Former CEO Ian Ayre has identified some of the outstanding qualities that saw Jürgen Klopp become Liverpool manager.Ayre who held the position at the club between 2014-17 said there was an instant connection between Klopp and the big decision makers at the club.ESPN reported Klopp as saying:“I'm a big believer that when you run a football club that first impressions are everything."And the first time I met Jurgen... I can honestly say within 15 minutes I thought this guy is perfect.Ayre said that it was clear that Klopp understood what makes the club special and gave him a lofty accolade.“It was one of the times that you know that your team, your city, your club and, with all the greatest respect to all the managers that came before him, I think Jurgen is almost like this prophet type level of manager and he is absolutely perfect for that club."From the early days of the Klopp tenure, the German has been extremely big on bringing a real sense of energy and enthusiasm to his role of manager. And he certainly does practice what he preaches to his players.There is no sense of letting the game drift along, animated discussions with the fourth official are a common sight, as is making sure the Anfield crowd are constantly energised in the contest. And the celebrations after a win are a symbol of true team spirit.Ayre says that those emotions is Klopp in a nutshell.“Everything you see from him, going on the field and hugging everybody [after matches] and that whole thing, it's very natural.“He doesn't do it for effect, he doesn't do it to make himself seem like a nicer person, it's just real and I just connected with him immediately." In contrast, Ayre he was a figure who rankled with the fanbase in his time at the club. Since leaving Liverpool nearly three years ago, the 56 year-old has spent time at 1860 Munich and is currently CEO of Nashville in the MLS who are gearing up for their first season in the competition.He talked about some of the challenges associated with setting up a new franchise.“Having patience is the hardest piece and that's why I think you have to be aligned as a group.“The owners, the coach, the management, the players, everybody has to be aligned with the plan and you have to stick together."The hardest people to bring along on that journey is the fans. “Everyone wants instant success, but if you keep aligned as people and you can look at all the people in the room and say 'we're on the same path,' then I think you can achieve great things.”

Paul Merson has showered praise on Jürgen Klopp saying he take any team into the the top league of English Football.Merson became the latest Sky Sports pundit, following his colleagues in Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to give the German the due credit he deserves.“I'm a great lover of Jurgen Klopp. I could use any team here, but I'm just going to say Rotherham.“I think Klopp could go to Rotherham and take them to the Premier League in time. “He's that good.”The Arsenal legend then identified some players who Klopp has been able to fit into his system and in turn become key players, in direct comparison to what Pep Guardiola has done with Man City.“He gets players in and plays them the right way. “They don't have household names. "People talk about the full-backs, but if those three don't play, I don't think it actually works as well for Liverpool.“I know Pep Guardiola's record is great, don't get me wrong, but every player is £80m, £90m in every position. “I haven't seen anybody at Manchester City become much, much better, they were already great players." Merson believed despite the outstanding season that Liverpool have had to date, they are not getting the respect they are due.Something he struggles to understand. “Why are Liverpool not favourites to win the Champions League? They've been at two straight finals. "Manchester City haven't even looked like winning it, and they are favourites."I don't think Liverpool get the respect they should get; this is the best team in Europe by some distance.“If you want to beat them, you need two or three goals. Andy Gray believes that Jack Grealish would instantly become Liverpool’s best midfielder if he was to join the club in the summer.The Aston Villa star regularly had been linked with big money moves over the past couple of seasons, but there was a big query on whether he had the commitment to take his game to another level. Undeniably blessed with a great deal of footballing talent, it was the off-field professionalism of Grealish which was regularly called into question by many associated with the club.But to his credit, he has knuckled down with the responsibility of captain given to him by manager Dean Smith and the boyhood Villa fan played a key role in gaining their re-entry into the Premier League, and has been a critical figure in this year’s campaign.Former Villa star Gray speaking on Bein Sports says it won’t be long before the midfielder has a big decision to make.The Mirror reported Gray as saying:“I know he's a Villa fan, his family are all Villa fans, he loves the club and he loves being captain.“But Jack's 24 now and I think there is a decision coming at the end of this season. And I hate to say it, but I don't think he'll be there in August.When identifying where the 24 year-old could go next, Gray was unequivocal in the role that he can play for Liverpool, rating him considerably higher than some members of the current midfield set-up."If I was a coach of any of the top-six, and I include Liverpool in this, he would make the team better."He is, in my opinion, better than any of Liverpool's midfield players. "We won’t say that because look at the run both us and Man City went on last season.“What’s to stop Man City doing that again? “Being unbeaten in every single game. This league is so hard.“Maybe sometimes we’ve made it look easy, but believe me it’s not – it’s so hard to perform against every team that wants to beat you.“The longer the run goes on, the more everyone wants to beat you – ‘we beat Liverpool’ or whatever.“We don’t take anything for granted. “We are not celebrating in there that we are champions."As for the points record and run of consecutive clean sheets, once again Robertson says are not a main focus for this team.“For us, they are irrelevant.
