U18s beaten by Chelsea

Liverpool's u18 side led at the half but slipped to a 4-2 defeat away to Chelsea this morning in new boss Neil Critchley's first match in charge.

Chelsea took an early lead but Irish defender Dan Cleary equalised at the far post following a set piece, before exciting u16 player Adam Phillips put the Reds in front following good play by the impressive Ryan Kent.

However, three goals in ten second half minutes turned the game on it's head and the home side ran out comfortable winners.

Chelsea: Collins, Aina, Brady, Muleba (Conroy) , Wright, Houghton (Kandi), Christie-Davies (Ali) , Musonda, Palmer, Gnahore, Solanke

Liverpool: Crump, Waldron, Hart (Roberts), Cleary, Brewitt, Burke, Wilson (O'Hanlon), Phillips, Trickett-Smith, Ojo, Kent

All too common these days hearing about the youth sides starting well only to end up in defeat. While it's encouraging that we've some young promising kids knocking on the door, it also raises questions about the quality of youth couching. Liverpool is rather known (used to be at least) for coming from behind and overhelming the opponent to win games, not vice versa. And that's what we need to start doing at youth level.
