Adam Lallana is a doubt for Liverpool's game at Norwich City tomorrow lunchtime. Jurgen Klopp revealed in his pre-match press conference that the England man “has a little issue” that may rule him out of the trip to Carrow Road.
Klopp says it’s a minor problem with a leg muscle that Lallana felt after last weekend’s home loss to Manchester United, but he has been unable to train normally this week. He has not been ruled out of contention for Norwich yet but it seems unlikely that he would be risked from the start. Fancy the Reds to win? If you like betting then this is for you.
Daniel Sturridge is still not ready to return, with Klopp explaining that the striker has trained well for the last four days but that he needs to do put together a run of at least ten days unbroken training before he will be considered for a recall. However, he has been saying the same thing since early December and as yet Sturridge has been unable to meet his requirements so it’s probably wise not to get too excited about a potential comeback just yet.
If Lallana isn’t fit to start then Jordon Ibe looks the most likely to step in after impressing in midweek in the 3-0 FA Cup win over Exeter at Anfield. Joao Carlos Teixeira will be hoping his exploits in that game may have caught Klopp’s eye too, and if Lallana is ruled out that may open up the door for him to make a first start, while in turn it could open up a spot on the bench for another midweek goalscorer, teenager Sheyi Ojo.
Christian Benteke looks set to continue on the bench despite Klopp’s description of him as “the complete striker” earlier this week, and with the club still hoping to conclude a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk hotshot Alex Teixeira, the Belgian appears to be fighting for his Anfield future between now and the end of the season.
The Reds were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield the last time they faced the Canaries, as Danny Ings’ opener was cancelled out when Russell Martin finished well after the Liverpool defence failed to deal with a corner kick. With Alex Neil’s side struggling near the bottom, Liverpool have to see this fixture as an opportunity to collect three points and improve on the 9th place they currently find themselves in.
