Why the 2022 World Cup is So Important to England

Whether you’re a football fan or not you’ll be well aware that we’re in the middle of the 2022 World Cup. This year’s tournament is being held in Qatar, which in itself has been quite a talking point; however, the game itself has gathered a few headlines too.

Football in England

England as a country are in general, football fans. There are a number of important events in the sporting calendar for football fans, but the World Cup which happens every 4 years is definitely up there with the important ones. There are many reasons that fans are in love with the game, but the thrill of each match and the adrenaline people feel when they watch their favourite team is definitely up there. With regional teams often playing matches throughout the year fans love to get behind their favourite players and teams and show their support – of course, attending a match or watching it with some friends at the pub is tempting too!

Why the 2022 World Cup is So Important to England

Everyone wants their favourite team to do well, so getting behind their country in a tournament like this just makes sense. The World Cup is definitely the most important sporting event that takes place, so for England to do well is something that so many fans want. The great news is that so far they seem to be doing fantastically well & in fact, many would put them towards the top of teams likely to win.

The England Football Team

Betway recently got together with Emile Heskey (former England International) to discuss all things football, including the new England team and how they’re performing. He talked about England’s performance against Iran “It was a good performance. You can only beat what’s in front of you and they did that in a stellar fashion.” He went on to talk about how the team had got off to a good start within the tournament with “the first two goal scorers, Jude Bellingham and Bukayo Saka” Being players that had stood out to him so far.

To date the England football team have taken part in 15 World Cups; winning just once in 1966. Through their World Cup appearances, they have scored a total of 91 goals. With a decent track record under their belt in terms of goals scored (they beat Panama 6-1 in 2018) fans will be wanting to see England win. Many football fans remember back and hear from others what 1966 was like when England won the World Cup at Wembley.

It is a time that football fans look back on fondly and many fans feel that it is team victory was once again England’s. People want to have a reason to celebrate the success of their team and so the World Cup isn’t just important to football fans, it’s something that they really want to win. That is why fans are getting behind the team as much as possible, and cheering them to what they hope will be 2023 World Cup victory.
