Liverpool Can Pick Up Where They Left Off

Liverpool started to find some form before the break for the 2022 World Cup and boss Jürgen Klopp will be determined to see his side hit the ground running when the Premier League campaign resumes.

The Reds have work to do to catch up with frontrunners Arsenal and Manchester City but a positive run at the start of the year could yield an exciting end to the campaign.

Reds Must Rediscover Rhythm

After the disappointment of back-to-back defeats at the hands of Nottingham Forest and Leeds United in October, Liverpool responded well with an away win at Tottenham Hotspur before a home victory over Southampton. Spurs had only lost once at home in the Premier League before Klopp saw his side secure a 2-1 win in North London. A convincing 3-1 win over Southampton will also have boosted confidence in the Reds’ camp as they started to rise up the standings.

With a World Cup halting a Premier League season for the first time in the competition’s history, it remains to be seen how all 20 teams react to the interruption. While many of the Reds’ superstars have travelled out to play for their respective countries at the World Cup, the rest of the squad have had a “mini pre-season”. Once the entire squad are reunited, it will be the job of Klopp’s management to refocus minds ahead of the Premier League's festive period.

A positive end to 2022 and a good start to the new year would go a long way to putting Liverpool back in the race for the Champions League places come the business end of the season. This squad have gone on outstanding winning runs before. They have the ability to do it again.

We can look to the professionals to understand whether that's likely. The top UK times are a firm fixture on the top betting sites, but many bettors will be wondering how accurate their odds for improvement are. Betting tipsters keep tabs on team trends to provide others with informed recommendations for bets on league winners, matches, handicaps, match goals, team goals and more. Many of them have noted that the Reds' results were on an upward curve just before the World Cup in Qatar. Rediscovering that form is what Klopp and other Premier League managers will be chasing after the action in the Middle East has come and gone.

Núñez and Salah Found Form

After what was a difficult start to the season for both forwards, Darwin Núñez and Mohamed Salah started to find some positive form before the break. In Liverpool’s last six games before the World Cup, Núñez and Salah managed nine goals between them.

Núñez’s brace against Southampton at Anfield would certainly have done the 23-year-old’s confidence no harm after a somewhat turbulent start to life in the Premier League. The World Cup did not go according to plan for Núñez as Uruguay crashed out of the competition in the group stages. Being back with Liverpool early can only be a positive thing for the Reds as they prepare for the resumption of the season.

Salah was also coming in for some harsh criticism in the early stages of the campaign but he too started to find form in November. With six Premier League goals and seven in the Champions League, Salah put up some decent numbers before the World Cup and will be eager to pick up where he left off after the dust settles on the action in Qatar.

While the start of the season was not what Reds fans would have hoped for, there are promising signs that Liverpool can challenge for silverware on multiple fronts in the spring.
