Can Liverpool finish in the Top Four?

Liverpool fans will be hoping that Jurgen Klopp can achieve a top four finish in the English Premier League this season. Currently, the club sits in third spot, but have played one more game than Manchester City and two more than Manchester United and Arsenal; and with only two, four and six points separating them from Liverpool, the Reds’ position starts to look a little precarious.

There is no doubt that Klopp has been a positive influence on the team and his players have responded to him, but he has drawn some deserved criticism for Liverpool’s form since the turn of the year, especially considering the Reds did not have to deal with an European football this season.

Some would argue that Liverpool should have been in a better position considering how they have performed best against the top clubs, but they have infuriatingly lost five times against teams in the bottom half of the table.

There have been some decisions by the manager which have been quite puzzling to fans; James Milner being converted to left back, Lucas Leiva playing at centre half and Mamadou Sakho being loaned out to Crystal Palace have all resulted in a defence that looks in tatters; and even though their strike force is formidable, it is a well established fact that a solid defence is what wins titles.

In spite of this, some pundits like Gary Neville have been quoted as saying that Liverpool should finish in the top four, but this is really only based on the fact that the Reds are on a good run of late and their easier run in gives them the advantage over Arsenal and Manchester United.

However, in reality, if we can assume Chelsea is certain to win the Premier League title, then we have five teams Tottenham, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United all competing for the other three places. Spurs look to have second locked up so it’s probably two from four.

SportingBet - online sports betting site usually have a good handle on predicting what’s going to happen. Most online bookies have Manchester United and Arsenal as the outsiders for a top four finish due to their more testing schedule. All this being said, Liverpool know better than anybody that no game in the English Premier League is easy, and with the points between the four contenders so close; it sets up the end of the season to be as exciting as ever.
