  1. I would like to echo everything said above. The game doesn't seem to produce players of the quality of Jamie who come anywhere near his honesty and humility. A genuinely world class centre-half whose timing and anticipated was often underated, particularly by London centric England managers. That said I would like to offer my favourite Carra memory, I think may have been in the Villa game mentioned above, although it could have been 'Boro. Carra was playing centre mid and against him was Andy Townsend who I seem to remember went in a bit hard on the young Jamie, trying to intimidate him, as Townsend got up to walk away Carra kicked him up the arse and sent him on his way. Thanks Carra for everything, a proper Bootle lad.
  2. Exactly how many times has O'Neill guided the mighty Villa to the Champions League places let alone won anything ? As for Kenny, he couldn't handle the pressure when we were winning things regularly and the media were much less itrusive. I remember Kenny's last few seasons starting games without the leading goalscorer, fielding 4 full backs and being critisised for being far to negative. Kenny has had spells at Newcastle and Celtic neither of which produced anything and lets face it if you can't guide Celtic to the league title, give up and buy some dominos, he quite simply isn't up to the job.
  3. Our Manger at the start of the next season should (and will almost certainly be) the man we've got now. I agree we've been crap this season and it has been sickening at times, but this manager has taken us to two European finals and within spitting distance of the league title. Rafa’s record stands comparison to all but the best. None of us at the beginning of the season could have seen Gerrard’s dreadful form coming, Torres injury problems or Carra's poor form early on; we started the season badly and lost confidence which we've never recovered. With a fresh start and some good fortune with injuries this is still a team capable of winning the title. If Benitez is forced out I for one will be gutted. Added to which we will almost certainly lose Reina, Torres and Mascherano all irreplaceable, whoever comes in has absolutely no chance of taking us forward and would be lucky to emulate Rafa let alone surpass him! Looking at the above lists the none of them would want to undertake the level of work required to get us anywhere near where we are now (7th).
  4. Hi all, last week or so I posted something along the lines of the mancs green and gold protest and how I thought we could adapt the idea. It has a lot in common with whats above. From what I can see above what we need for this to have the desired impact is visability, somthing that contrasts well with the red and white seen at our home games, a financial implication to the RBS etc. twitchy and something for the media to latch onto once the thing starts to roll. I suggested we go far the scarves of another club; the best idea that came back was Corinthians due to Hicks involement. This works because the colours are black and white (reasonable contrast) and the media can write reams about LFC fans pumping money into another club, they can explore why Corinthians, detail Hicks mismangement there as well as here and keep the story going. The shirts scarves etc. are available online, no designs, copyright issues and it can get going straight away.
  5. The only reason for excluding rangers is because their colours are blue and white! Corinthians is a great shout. The red and yellow striped scarf isn't visual enough, IMHO
  6. Hello all, Newbie first post but please bear with me. I’m looking to float a suggestion to do with our owner problem and wondered what you guys think. The manc green and gold protest is starting to get a lot of decent media coverage, particularly after the Milan game, and while I’m loath to suggest imitating anything they do I think there could be merit in it. For them the green and gold thing provides an extremely visual but passive indication of how many fans want their owners out, the green and gold stand out well in the crowd. Calling for supporters to boycott fixtures will never work as there are too many willing to take the places of those on the boycott. Marchers and demonstrations are great but seem to be largely ignored by the media. What I’m suggesting is that we adopt a similar protest to theirs, but unfortunately our original colours were blue and white and 40,000 reds fans wearing blue and white scarves is just not happening. Wearing AFC Liverpool scarves would be better as would the anti Gillet and Hicks scarves you have on sale here, the downside is they are red and white so no visual impact. The solution (I think !!!) is for us to select a club possibly one with who we have a decent relationship and no chance of playing anytime soon, no one English, whose colours contrast ours and we buy in lock stock and barrel, shirts, scarves etc. Every single one is money that the owners have lost (hit them where it hurts) and the fact that it’s going to another club is just more fuel to the fire; as well as giving us the visual impact on telly, every live game is a 90 minute visual protest. If by now you haven’t switched off and started typing your f**k off you soft tw*t replies, my suggestions for the teams are the following: Celtic have contrasting colours and we get on pretty good with their support particularly after Hillsborough. The downside being, as we both make Europe regularly, there is a good chance we could play them soon. Barcelona are another team with who we have (as far as I know) a good relationship, the Catalan people and us have loads in common. However, as with Celtic the chance of facing them is quite high. My own personal favourite would be Borussia Monchengladbach, good colours, black white and green, a good relationship with us I believe, and not much chance of facing them in the near future. I know this is a bit much for a first post but I’m interested to know what other fans think.
