  2. Torres rues lack of Liverpool funds | Liverpool | English Premier League | Football News from TEAMtalk The Spain striker, on whom Liverpool have relied heavily since he moved from Atletico Madrid in 2007, conceded Liverpool need new players and insisted that replacing manager Rafael Benitez would not solve their current predicament. The Reds are eighth in the Premier League, their American owners are under pressure to cut their £240million debt, and they are out of the Champions League. They are also facing a £20million cut in income if they fail to qualify for the Champions League next season - and they are eight points away from fourth-placed Aston Villa. Torres, speaking in Zurich after being named part of FIFA's world XI, said: "Obviously we need players. If we can bring quality players it should be really positive for us, but I think the situation is really difficult because I think we don't have money to bring in the best players. "It's a difficult situation but every top team in the world goes sometimes through a bad situation like Liverpool now. "Like every top team in the world, Liverpool will get over the situation. "I have confidence in myself and my team. I know we are good enough. We were playing really well last season with the same team. We have to just recover the mentality and the confidence in ourselves and everything will be different." Benitez's position has come under some scrutiny even though it is thought his job is safe until the end of the season - in the current circumstances owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks would struggle to afford to sack him and appoint a new manager. Torres - the subject of speculation that Manchester City may bid for him in the January window - said the players should take responsibility for their situation rather than Benitez. He added: "I think sacking the manager is not a solution. "The manager is not playing so we have to be positive with him, try to work with him. We are the main reason, the players are the people that have to find a solution to the situation. The manager is not playing, so we have to play much better." Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, also named in the world XI, called on the team to pull together. Gerrard said: "I don't think it's right to pick out individual players. "We're a team, we're a group and we are responsible for where we're lying in the league at the moment. All of us have got to stick together and try and pull through and turn it around."

He's going to end this one with: 1 Diego Cavalieri 2 Andrea Dossena 4 Sami Hyypiä 5 Daniel Agger 8 Steven Gerrard (captain) 9 Fernando Torres 11 Albert Riera 12 Fábio Aurélio 14 Xabi Alonso 15 Yossi Benayoun 17 Álvaro Arbeloa 18 Dirk Kuyt 19 Ryan Babel 20 Javier Mascherano 21 Lucas 22 Emiliano Insúa 23 Jamie Carragher (vice-captain) 24 David N'Gog 25 Pepe Reina 26 Jay Spearing 27 Philipp Degen 28 Damien Plessis 29 Krisztián Németh 30 Charles Itandje 31 Nabil El Zhar 32 Stephen Darby 34 Martin Kelly 35 Ryan Flynn 36 Steve Irwin 37 Martin Škrtel 39 Nathan Eccleston 41 Martin Hansen He's easily improved every single player or bought a player who can play to the same level (Garcia and Yossi, Aurelio and Finnan). 1 Jerzy Dudek - Pepe Reina 20 Scott Carson - Diego Cavalieri Defenders: 2 Stephane Henchoz - Daniel Agger 4 Sami Hyypia - Sami Hyypia 12 Mauricio Pellegrino - Martin Skrtel 17 Gonzalez Josemi - Andrea Dossena 21 Djimi Traore - Emiliano Insua 23 Jamie Carragher - Jamie Carragher Midfielders: 3 Steve Finnan - Fabio Aurelio 6 John Arne Riise - Alberto Riera 7 Harry Kewell - Ryan Babel 8 Steven Gerrard - Steven Gerrard 10 Sanz Luis Garcia - Yossi Benayoun 11 Vladimir Smicer - Lucas 14 Xabi Alonso - Xabi Alonso 16 Dietmar Hamann - Javier Mascherano 18 Antonio Nunez - El Zhar 25 Igor Biscan - Spearing* Strikers: 5 Milan Baros - Dirk Kuyt 9 Djibril Cisse - Fernando Torres 19 Fernando Morientes - David Ngog 24 Florent Sinama Pongolle - Nemeth 33 Neil Mellor - Pacheco *Not really bought I know, but brought him to the first team and gave him a chance And he's bought and sold: Sissoko Bellamy Keane Pennant Crouch + more. All players that would have probably been the best of the lot along with Stevie and Carra in 2005 but just squad/average players in 2009. He has brought us on leaps and bounds, we take him for granted. His first game against Spurs saw him field this team: Jerzy Dudek, John Arne Riise, Jamie Carragher, Sami Hyypia, Josemi, Harry Kewell, Steven Gerrard, Dietmar Hamann, Steve Finnan, Milan Baros, Djibril Cisse SUBS :Igor Biscan, Stephane Henchoz, Chris Kirkland, Florent Sinama Pongolle, Stephen Warnock And his team for Fulham was: Pepe Reina, Emiliano Insua, Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel, Alvaro Arbeloa, Andrea Dossena, Xabi Alonso, Lucas Leiva, Dirk Kuyt, Steven Gerrard , Fernando Torres SUBS : Daniel Agger, Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun, Diego Cavalieri, Javier Mascherano, David Ngog, Albert Riera That bench alone would fuck the whole first team from 5 years ago. I'll say it again, he is a genius and certainly taken for granted by some of our support. He'll certainly win us the PL at some point (I believe this season) and CL again definitely. And he's gone and signed a new contract, the future is bright.
