  1. The road to Lansdowne Road, Dublin, gets underway on 16 July, when we become the first of England's 7 European representatives for Season 2010/11 to know our first opponents, at the draw for the 3rd Qualifying Round of the Europa League. As top seeds in Group 1, we will play anyone of the following 9 opponents on 29th July next. While none are exactly household names, the destinations are many and varied, from a short hop to Bangor to a long haul trek to Armenia. Take your pick from the following: Stara Zagora (BUL) Stabæk IF (NOR) or FC Dnepr Mogilev (BLR) Rabotnicki (MKD) or FC Mika (ARM) FC Honka Espoo (FIN) or Bangor City FC (WAL) NK Zrinjski (BIH) or SP Tre Penne (SMR) The draw for the third qualifying round takes place at 11:30 GMT, 12:30 Liverpool time on 16 July. To reach the final in Dublin in May next year will require coming through 18 games in the process. Aside from individual game threads, it would be appreciated if we can keep related Europa League (aka UEFA Cup) posts in here under the one thread. Thanks. Pot luck awaits Liverpool and Juve on UEFA.COM
  2. There is a piece in today's Irish Times, about the Irish economy, by MORGAN KELLY. He has been seen as very negative, but seems he is quite accurate on the whole and most of the others has been too optimistic. Makes for sobering reading. Brought to our knees by bankers and developers - The Irish Times - Fri, Jul 03, 2009.
