Apparently it's autism awareness day? Anyone else aware they knew so many people who had children with the condition? Given the prevalence is actually only 6 in 1000 it's becoming a condition that each parent looks at as an excuse for their kid being a pain in the arse. Unless your kid is non verbal, manages no eye contact and genuinely can't deal with change, get off the fucking band wagon. Wired 9.12: Take The AQ Test I scored 37. I'm off to lick some windows. A few of the more extreme media pundits seem to be knocking this around now as a solution to out of control youth, what do you think about it? Their resoning seems to be that much of youth crime stems from the fact a great deal of them have no authority figure in their lives (especially a father) and that the state could at least attempt to fill this role for them, teaching them discipline and respect for authority. I personally think a limited version of this could have legs IMO, not with ALL young people - because it would be pretty outrageous to target young people who have never commited a crime, but certainly for young offenders as an alternative to going to a young offenders institution - where in many cases - they come out worse. One thing I am sick of though, is these 'down with the kids' youth leaders they keep wheeling out on Sky News, and who say things like 'we need to engage with these young people'. No, we really don't - stop the fucking madness.
