Ok we are all down in the dumps because we are shit but does this stop us laughing at the mongrels they have allready started to blame clivethomas and deep down they all know something will happen saturday “EVEN today, 35 years later and living on the other side of the world, Mick Lyons feels robbed of what would have been the greatest day of his career – the chance to lead out his boyhood club in an FA Cup Final at Wembley. Lyons was Everton captain the last time they took on Liverpool in a cup semi-final back in 1977. A thrilling 2-2 draw was famously overshadowed by referee Clive Thomas ruling out what seemed a legitimate winner from Blues midfielder Bryan Hamilton just moments from time. Liverpool, a month away from being crowned European champions for the first time, heeded the warning and when the clubs went back to Maine Road for the replay a few days later, the Reds thumped their neighbours 3-0. “If you ask any Evertonian who was the worst referee ever, I bet they all say Clive Thomas – even those who weren’t around in 1977!” said Lyons, 60, acknowledging the Welshman’s place in Goodison notoriety. “That decision cost us a place in the FA Cup Final – I honestly think we were robbed. It was a very sad day. “Straight afterwards we asked him why he disallowed the goal and he said ‘Hammo’ had knocked it in with his hand. It came off his stomach – even Emlyn Hughes didn’t claim it and he appealed for everything! “Then at the end of the game he said, ‘it was an infringement of the rules of the Football Association and I will be proved right!’ What does that mean? “Then on the Monday, he said it was for offside, which again was wrong. It was just crazy but he was one of those who thought that the game was all about the referee.” The loss was one of three FA Cup semi-final defeats the former *centre-half suffered during a career which brought a wealth of plaudits but no winner’s medals. Yet anyone writing off Lyons, who now lives in Perth, Australia, as simply a bitter Evertonian with a Blue chip on his shoulder couldn’t be more wrong. An old school Scouser, he often acknowledges the long-gone days of Liverpool winning all before them “was good for the city”. But that didn’t stop him having a smile when Reds keeper Pepe Reina got himself banned from Saturday’s Wembley semi with his dismissal against Newcastle last Sunday. “I must admit I shouted ‘Yes!’ when he got sent off – I knew he’d be out of the semi against us,” Lyons said. ifitwasntfforHowardWebb

Just been speaking to Dave and he thinks it is a good idea. Would anyone fancy a proper 11 v 11 game between the lads who play of a Thursday. The date would probably be a Saturday at the end of the season. If we get enough names, we can look towards booking a pitch.
