  1. I've been getting inspired by Keith Perkins' Scouse XI in the mag (and trying to stop myself dwelling on.... you know... the recent unpleasantness) I thought I'd have a go at picking my all-time "foreign" (i.e. not from the British Isles) Reds team. So here goes... Pepe Reina Penalty saves, reading the game, distribution and being an all-round mad bastard all contribute to this selection. The deciding factor might be his response to the Goons' goal in the CL Quarter-Final, when he picked Skrtel up by the scruff of the neck, so everyone in the stadium knew there was still a game to won. Markus Babbel, Sami Hyypia, Glen Hysen, Jon Arne Riise If for no other reason, Markus is there for his pitch-length sprint to score in the Gary Mac Derby. Sami is Sami - nuff said. Hysen edged in ahead of several strong contenders, because he's got a Championship medal. Riise - Honestly, forget the last 18-months or so and remember some of the goals (and Alan Smith's leg) and you'll see he deserves to be in ahead of some of the other contenders. Of course, anyone could play in this defence, because the opposition would never get the ball anyway. Meet the Midfield. Xabi Alonso, Javier Mascherano, Jan Molby Really - there's nothing I can tell you about these three. You'll notice there are only three of them. That's because I had to accommodate three strikers... Fernando Torres, Jari Litmanen, Gordon Hodgson What can I say about Nando? Is it just coincidence that the campaign to establish a gay village in Liverpool has got off the ground since July last year? Hodgson is still Liverpool's all-time top goalscoring foreigner, having set all kinds of records (in an era when the team were no great shakes). These two would feast on the link-up play of the cleverest player I've ever seen. Seven Subs Let's say... Grobbellaar, Agger, Bjornebye, Hamman, Berger, Johnston and Rosenthal That's my team. What's yours?
