Roma knew it was shit or bust. That og off Milner probably made them think it was going to be their night never mind having a bent ref help them. Our style of play means we are going to run out of steam in games but it is that style that usually puts us out of sight before then. Gini always runs like he is knackered to me but I always think our major problems is we do not win enough 50/50 tackles. I was a bit surprised Jurgen put Solanke on instead of Ings last night but hey he is the manager.

Some positives, for anybody thinking we weren’t convincing- a one in a hundred own goal - a very poor hand ball penalty decision ( with 20 odd seconds to play) - and goals from two Liverpool players who haven’t been exactly prolific of late but stepped up in a massive game.

 

Overall, we had a good second leg and did exactly what we needed to do - Put a couple balls in the net before halftime to keep Roma uncertain of belief.

 

We’ve waited 13 years for this. No team has won 3 back to back European Cups, and neither will Real.

Not in the Champions League era but Real Ajax and Bayern have won 3 consecutive European Champions Cups. Real actually won the first 5 on the bounce.

It is really funny reading the comments of fuming Mancs Chelsea and Evertonians in some of the reports on our progress. Liverpool have no chance against Ronaldo and Real they all shout. Leaving out Real spawned their way past Juve and Bayern, they said there was no chance we would qualify. Check. No chance we would get out of the group stage. Check. No chance we would get past the quarters. Check. No chance we would get through the semi. Check. Absolutely no chance we would get to the final. Absolute check. It is great to be a red today.

Good news. But how exactly could you get three yellows and be banned for the final if it’s reset before the semis?

I'd rather see us field the under 23's against Chelsea and go for the jugular against Brighton. It's a dangerous game and it could backfire badly but the big concern is picking up injuries to important players against Chelsea, and them still winning because our first eleven are dead on their feet.

I thought he was very good last night, claiming the ball brilliantly. I think he was lucky not to give away a pen, but I don't care. I think he has been outstanding these last few months. To come on here after such a big result and start picking out players is cunty.

The ref yesterday was awful. He was gifting Rome free kicks all night, yet he missed the two big penalties Roma should've had. When he eventually gave them one, it was a wrong decision, But heck do I care. That last pen was given when the match was almost over. Terrible ref though.

 

As for Roma's sulking, they should remember they were given two pens over the two legs that should never have been given.

Media-wise , Lampard, Ferdinand & Stevie on BT Sports were fine , ITV seemed to be a bit negative for some reason. Loads of positive stuff on SSN as well today so don't want to get too much into ' The media hate us '.

It is because most of ITV are mancs what with the company being owned by Granada and Central. On SSN there are a couple of reds. That Vicky Gomersall and Rachel something are both massive Reds.

The morning after the night before. Think I have calmed down now after that bent reffing show last night. Must admit, that last 5 minutes had my arse going. I was that convinced the bent ref was going to give them another pen but he blew as soon as they took the one he had given.

People talk about game management again but there is not much you can do against a bent ref and when a ball smacks off the head of one of your own players and rickochets into the net at speed. I mean it is not like it trickled over the line.

Mixed performance from him tonight but there again same could be said of a number of players maybe. Was only really at fault with the second goal but that came about because another player did not clear the ball when he had the chance some 10 or 12 metres outside our box. He will probably get some stick for  Nangolans strike as it looked like he thought it was going wide. But we put 7 past Allison over 2 games.

Yep felt for Trent tonight. Targetted down his side and offered no protection by senior pros. Looked very tired late in the second half.

I actually thought that Roma had given up at times but we kept letting them back into it with mistakes / bad luck. 

 

Surprised ( not really ) at the stick Lovren is taking, thought him & VvD were pretty good and must have cleared twenty crosses between them (If there was any blame for the Milner oggy it was TAA daydreaming at the back post ) . Thought we were very naive the way we let them constantly stroll down the wings and belt crosses over without making any tactical changes.

Lovren is many peoples whipping boy. I thought he was unlucky to have 2 fouls given against him then the bent ref booked him for the 2nd foul. Thought van Dijks wider distribution was not as good as it can be. Trent had a bit of a mare tonight and his missed clearance on that ball when he had ages lead to Romas 2nd goal. But what the heck we are in the final. No thanks to a bent twat of a ref.

Can we add Sturridge, Origi and Grujic into the squad at that point ? They were out of the knockout stages squad but we can add three more players into the squad from last 16, and Im not sure we would have done that.

No. They are with their loan clubs until the summer windows open on 1 July.

The strength or otherwise of our bench wont be an issue if that bent ref gets the final. Keep your fingers crossed UEFA does not give it to him but he must be in with a shout reffing one of the semis. We have been beat every time he has reffed us 4 times now.

Roma looked to put their quickest defender on Mo so he either was just offside when the ball was played or out run by the defender. Not one of his best games but hey his goals in the 1st leg have done the business.
