Whether van Dijk did not want that ball or not he had plenty of time to distribute it instead of playing like a Southampton player and asking for a foul in the first minute of an important game. Some people want van Dijk to be given the captaincy but he needs to act and play like one from the first whistle to the last.

Karius only mistake in that game was coming for a difficult punch between two of his own players and an oppo going for the same ball. But given the context of the time in that game I do not see him having any other option. His distribution last night was good. He held onto the ball as long as he could to try and stem Citys first half onslaught. In the second half he moved it quickly when needed.

The great thing is we do not need to bring in any old players. I am sure Klopp knows what he needs to strengthen the side and I would not be surprised if that differs a lot from what some fans want or expect.

Klopp knows he is not going to get a class striker to sit on the bench. Even if he did bring in another striker, he is not going to move Bobby from his position. I would not be surprised to see Origi back with Ings going out on loan next season. If Moreno decides he wants regular games elsewhere he might look to bring in back up for Robbo. With Can going even with Keita coming in, I think he might look to bring in a DM as well. Karius continues to show improvement and I think any talk of Alisson is just that. Maybe Ward will step up as his back up when Mignolet leaves in the summer.

To widen the conversation though , I do think it is very easy to say ' Get a great centre half ' but who is a guarantee of this? I think we're in an era of not many good ones around.
