Kids return to school tomorrow and I'm struggling to find the best description of the Government's plans to keep schools open - "wilfully incompetent" and "fucking useless" are the leaders at present. Vaccines minister Maggie Throup, the wettest of wet blankets, was on the BBC this morning; when pressed, she couldn't give a number for how many retired teachers were returning to the profession to help out then later claimed it was "a matter of thousands". Really? So you'd think someone would have had the foresight to ensure the background check process was swift and yet some supply agencies are claiming it is taking from one to two months for these necessary checks to be completed.
The plans to deal with staff shortages include asking teaching assistants to act as teachers and take classes but I'm guessing the poor TAs won't be paid as teaching staff. There is also putting classes together - good job cramming 50+ students in one poorly ventilated classroom won't affect covid transmission. While I'm willing to bet that masks lessen transmission I can't see them being as effective in these circumstances.
Schools were supposed to have CO2 monitors last year; I asked a former colleague how many were in her school and guess the answer ... zero. 7000 air filters are to be provided to schools; there are 32 000 schools with some 300 000 classrooms in the UK. Meanwhile Germany has spent £452 million on improving ventilation in state buildings, including schools.
Is it incompetence or is the plan to expose as many pupils as possible to covid? Throup said in her interview that it was important that "everybody pulls together" - pity the interviewer didn't remind her that that included the Government.
The heating in my missus's school has broken down and won't be fixed until next week. The deputy head's solution? Just keep all the windows closed. Which goes against the only piece of government advice which is to keep class windows open.
I agree mate - the government have been happy to let Covid run through schools - pupils, teachers, support staff.

Rafa doing a bang up job.
And yet they're 8 points off the bottom three. Lucky for Everton there are always shitter teams than them.

I thought a club was supposed to be financially self supporting?
"Chelsea’s accounts state they are “reliant on Fordstam Limited for its continued financial support”. The company is owned by Roman Abramovich, and has indicated it will continue to support the club “for the foreseeable future”. As well as winning the Champions League for the second time, Chelsea finished fourth in the Premier League and reached the FA Cup final."

Has anyone said the Leicester fans are bad Tories yet?
Bad.
Tories.

That’s the most dominant they’ve ever been in Europe.
If it hadn't have been for the Allies, Everton could have dominated Europe for the past 75 years.

I thought there was film footage of the band just before they go onto the roof? Because they were still deciding whether or not to right up to the event. In the end Lennon says let's just do it and up they go.
It's possible I've just read this and am imagining that I've seen it before.

I think someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, but one of the highlights for me was Harrison turning on his amp after Mal had switched it off for the police.
The police and a few of the public just come across as joyless pricks.

When Lennon is first telling Harrison about Klein, it might just be me reading too much into it, but George doesn't seem too enthusiastic - he's very quiet. And later - as someone mentioned above - Glyn Johns has definitely got his number. We've all met someone like that, who if they think they're above you or don't like what you're saying will change he subject.
When his name comes up and Lennon and Macca are talking about meeting him you want to shout at the telly DON'T DO IT!!
The stuff that happened after the sessions makes for interesting reading - https://www.beatlesbible.com/albums/let-it-be/3/
It's just really sad - after the rooftop stuff they're all made up and on a high and talking about concerts all over London. Then they went on to do Abbey Road but then it all turned sour very quickly.

Got to play the kids midweek, no other choice as they won’t call it off.
Definitely. We've got a league and a European cup to win.

Nice article, though he fails to mention that City lost at Spurs earlier this season.
"They’d have been more likely to control possession before perhaps coming away with a 1-0 win."

Fans of tin pot clubs telling Liverpool and Chelsea fans to get over it, while Man City and its squad assembled at a vast cost of transfers and wages walk the title in the meantime.
I've got the impression over the last few years that other fans are happy for City to hoover up the league and cups season after season - why?
I hope Covid rips through the England squad next time they're in a tournament. I won't feel for the fans as they cry into their pints of Carling singing Sweet Caroline.

We finished ten men against sixteen while our midfield was decimated with Covid and had some poor performances. I’m not too down about it.
No no, we're never going to win anything ever again and the world has ended.

Man City lost at Spurs, so it's not a terrible result.
