  1. No thanks, he was great for us for 5 years or so but went completely to pieces later on. I can't see that signing him back would be good enough for Liverpool. Sunderland or Bolton yeah maybe.
  2. Pepe did win us the FA Cup in 2006 but remember how crap he was during the game itself? The reason it went to penalties was because he was so bad in our goal. Gerrard saved the match for us and then in the shoot out Pepe was awesome. I wouldn't be surprised that he is considering other options. I would love him to stay with us another 5 years or longer but something with the guy tells me that he will go in the summer. I just hope he's not stupid enough to do what his pal did and join our hated rivals (not Chelsea!) and become a hate figure.
  3. Thanks for replies and yes it is a legitimate point I like to think and not some mindless dumb thread that just rakes over the same stuff. It was watching the Brescia v Inter Milan game yesterday and as I said it was 1-1 and the ref gave a pen in the 90th minute. My friend with me who is Italian was so calm and said no problem, Julio Cesar will save it and he duly did save it. After it he just kept calm and said I knew he would save it. It got me to thinking that if I was watching a Liverpool game and we conceded a pen, I would be pretty much resigned to it being a goal. Then I thought well hang on a minute, isn't Reina supposed to be a bit of a penalty saving expert? It is right that a real top penalty taker ought to score every time and a save is a bonus and not to be expected BUT these top keepers at the biggest clubs seem to save quite a few more than our keeper. I still think Reina is the best goalie we have had since Clemence, don't get me wrong.
  4. Does anyone else remember when we signed Pepe he had the best penalty saving record in the Spanish League but he never saves any for us these days. I don't have the figures, I'm just going from memory but didn't he once save 7 penalty kicks against him in 1 season or something? Since joing us he has been great in 2 penalty shoot outs v Chelsea 2007 and West Ham 2006 and fair play but on regular penalty kicks when does he ever save one? I saw Petr Cech save one recently and not the first time I saw him recently save one either and today I watched the Brescia v Inter Milan game and Julio Cesar saved one in the 90th min to keep a 1-1 draw and not to lose 1-2 so the pressure was well and truly on. Every time we concede penalty it's a goal but really with one of the world premier keepers shouldn't some be saved? I like Pepe and wear a Reina goalie shirt so it's not a Pepe attack and I don't want him to leave but does anyone else think his penalty saving record is not up to par with his rivals? Just last game he had a penalty and they scored.
  5. I haven't heard the latest one but on youtube there is another interview from the day after Rooney put in a transfer request and Paddy Crerand is on Irish radio again talking with Ivan Yates and he winds up Paddy by saying that Fergie should leave United and is too old etc, then he says about the terrible amount of debt that United have. Paddy goes mad and accuses Yates of talking crap then hangs up the phone. It's worth a listen. Funny as they come! Paddy certainly is a dick.
  6. The player I most "feared" was Thierry Henry, capable of destroying any defence and most usually it was Liverpool's BUT the player that was my favourite and that I dreamed of seeing him sign for Liverpool was Les Ferdinand in his QPR days. I used to dream we had him alongside Ian Rush. In 1995 Ferdinand signed for Newcastle for 6m and Collymore signed for us for 8.5m. If we had got Ferdinand I think we would have got a better deal.
  7. He is technically good but he has no pace. If he had lightning pace then what a player he would be! He does take a great penalty though. I mean has he ever missed one?
  8. No we got 3.5m for Heskey, it could have risen to 6m with add-ons. That's not 6m then is it. Westerveld spent pretty much a whole season with us as 3rd choice goalie. I don't think we got 4m back him after that. My point is in general that we have been poorly run in the transfer market, that's all. Nowhere near as good as our rivals.
  9. I realise that Berger and Hamann gave us decent service but they still went for nothing. Yeah Veron was sold for less than half of what Utd paid but compare it to our shit dealings and it's great business. I realise that every club even Utd and Arsenal have signed some duffers but our club takes the cake for buying big and 3 years later they are worthless! Barmby is another one. Even Redknapp had to be freed off. I know he was unlucky with injuries but a fit Redknapp at 28 years old would have been worth 8m if Hamann was surely? Instead through bad fortune or whatever LFC banked nothing.
  10. I was just thinking that although Torres wanted out, at least this time we got some good money back for him and it got me thinking just how rare it is for LFC to recoup a good price back. Just off the top of my head, Diouf cost 10m, we recouped next to nothing. Heskey cost 11m, we recouped 3.5m. Hamann cost 8m, we recouped 0. Cheyrou cost 4.5m, we recouped 0. Berger cost 3.75m, we recouped 0. Babb cost 3.6m, we recouped 0. Kirkland cost 6m, we recouped next to nothing. Pongolle and Le Tallec cost about 6m, we recouped next to nothing. Ince cost 4.5m, we recouped 1m. Owen went for 8m, half his worth, McManaman went for free when he was worth 12m. Clough cost 3.75m, we recouped 0. Walters cost 1.5m, we recouped 0. Cisse cost 14m, we recouped 4.5m. Kennedy cost 2.5m, we recouped next to nothing. Diao cost 5m, we recouped 0. Westerveld cost 4m, we recouped 0. Biscan cost 5m, we recouped 0. The only good bit of business LFC has done in the last 10 years before getting 50m for Torres was getting 11m for Fowler. Compare Man Utd recouping 7m for Ince, 5m for Kanchelskis, 7m for Cole, 25m for Beckham, 18m for van Nistelrooy, 12m for Veron and Arsenal getting 25m for Petit and Overmars, 17m for Henry, 16m for Vieira. It is pathetic how bad we have been at getting players who have no sell-on value or that we were just downright stupid. We got 30m for Alonso, 25m for Mascherano and 50m for Torres, 3 players who wanted to leave and in my view we got good money back. It's about time! We have had some shit deals over the past 20 years!
  11. Kenny always was tactically astute. I would think he was our first manager who changed players in the side for different challenges. Shankly, Paisley and Fagan pretty much picked their best side and barring injuries it was the same. Back in 1990-91 we played Spurs away and all the press were saying how would we stop Gazza playing. If I remember right, Kenny dropped Beardsley (who at the time was our top scorer and in good form) and put David Burrows who was a left back, into midfield to man mark Gazza. Gazza hardly got a kick and we ran out 3-1 winners. Molby and McMahon ran the midfield. He didn't always get it right of course but more often than not. We beat Stoke last night totally because of Kenny's tactics and team changes in my view.
  12. I am just so sickened. I am over 30 and not a kid, I remember Kenny as manager the first time and I have seen many players come and go but this transfer request just sickens me. In Fernando's book he says how when he first joined LFC he took time to read books on our Club and past players and the history and how he met Kenny and Aldo and Rushy and past players like that and loved talking with them about their love for LFC. He couldn't have understood it or he would never be able to play for Ch***** and wear the shirt. He has shit on us and I too feel like my wife has been playing away. I like the signings today but Fernando shitting on LFC like this has hurt. Does anyone else get the feeling in Madrid right now there are thousands of people who are laughing at us for believing he was a red? /
  13. I don't really mind. Back in 1996 I had Collymore on my shirt and then he left. I was very upset and I never wore the shirt out again until I came across it in around 2004. I felt differently at that time and I liked the nostalgia and so I wore it with pride! Time heals all wounds! Well some of them anyway
