Performance there's an argument to be had, but in terms of leadership (which I guess is the bare minimum you expect from the captain) - absolutely.

I think Trent should be given the armband potentially as soon as this pre-season, give him the responsibility of a team built around him. Sink or swim time, see whether he can step up to prove he is world class.

Gerrard got the armband at 23, Trent is a bit older. Similar situation with a respected CB, although I reckon Virg would almost certainly hold a grudge which Sami never would have. Trent might need it though to take his game to the next level, and might be the deal-breaker to tie him into a new contract.

It's Liverpool 2.1 I guess, I think it might be time to build a team around him.

What sort of example do you think it sets to the rest of club never mind just the first team?  His attitude is absolutely horrific.  He’s the least suited personality to captaincy I’ve ever seen.

First of all don't put him there. We've seen it for long enough now. We could instead focus on the ball to Salah that he volleys across.. The ball to Nunez that he couldn't even get his feet right so it bounced to Salah. Or the ball to Gakpo against Atalanta. Or almost every other decent pass that usually kick started a Klopp attack.

You think we are only talking about the corner here?  The lad walks around the pitch like that for nearly every minute he’s on it.  He lets players run off him constantly he takes the shithouse route in nearly every defensive situation.  It’s not even a metaphoric one for that corner he literally steps away so that he can’t challenge Calvert Lewin and it’s worked all the commentators giving Van Dijk shit over it.  You could clip up so many incidents of him behaving like this game after game.  Yeah great he can hit a great pass and scores the odd free kick.  It’s not worth the negative side of the game.  He’s literally like a child on the pitch with his attitude.  It’s insane that he hasn’t been pulled up on it but that seems to be Klopps way.

The fact we are playing this comically bad system to get him in the middle of the pitch so he can just walk around there playing 5 yard passes for 60 mins and create fuck all just adds even more negatives.  I said it last night but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a professional footballer at this level behave the way he does.  It’s like it’s so bad that people can’t even see it.  It’s been going on for years.

What annoys me after the match is the " this wasn't good enough we'll improve next time" The players have said this so many times over the last 6 weeks or so, before going out playing exactly the same.

They’ve either been brainwashed into thinking it’s an effort thing or they’re just going through the motions publicly.  They look to me like they all know the tactics are shite and aren’t going to work but haven’t all admitted it to each other.

Ignore the embarrassing shithouse defending of the corner and just look at how he is walking and carrying himself.  It’s like some constant parade of how much of a bad man he is.  He literally walks around the pitch doing that weird exaggerated pose as some sort of show.  I’m surprised his hands aren’t down shorts as well.

Carragher originally used to softly pull him up some of these things but he’s completely shit out of ever mentioning it now.  I think he’s scared of rattling another local player who he’s going to have to deal with a lot in the future.

Nothing wrong with his talent, vision or ability. That's about as good as it gets. A 9 or 10 for ability

The problem is attitude, willingness to do the dirty work and fight. A 1 of 10 for attitude,

He won't be the first player in history to sqander a brilliant career because he thinks he's too big for his own shoes.

We are seeing this more and more though.  It’s odd and I don’t think we’ve seen it at this level from players who are technically this good.  Deli Alli has already fully gone despite that comical PR episode of Monday Night Football.  Rashford is probably in a similar place to Trent now.  It’s difficult to explain why they don’t address it or the managers indulge them in the first place.

Like when he gets home or back into work and watches back the game and the goals what is going through his mind.  I know he’s as thick as two short planks but there must be something in there where he thinks “shit that was my fault.  What could I do next time to stop it?”  He never does though.  He just keeps doing the same lazy shitbag stuff every  single game.

  6. I’m baffled as to how people can still be watching him game in game out and just completely wipe from their memory every few minutes the complete lazy shite that he does.  To say we absolutely need to give him a new contract is comical.  He’s the biggest problem in the team and has been for years.  It’s okay saying put him in midfield but he literally doesn’t move.  When the ball is dropping in our box to their players he’s on the turn running away gambling that it will fall to us which is completely pointless anyway because if it does fall to us he starts walking into the middle of the pitch where he just bounces the pass backwards or can’t receive it in the first place because he’s stood behind an opposition player.

The amount of times last night where he was just stood next to somebody with the ball or in a completely pointless position where he just played a pointless 5 yard pass was ridiculous.

If he signs a new contract then we will have completed our conversion into being Arsenal as he will be our Ozil.  He will end up getting countless managers sacked before somebody with some balls comes along and tries to force him out despite nobody wanting to pay the ridiculous wages we will be paying him.  He will be in a for a shock at any club he turns up at.  I’m praying it’s Madrid.

  7. I know Quansah was generally good against United but the season turning to absolute shit happened the second he decided to play that pass across the back against them.  We haven’t recovered since that moment.  It wasn’t just a freak situation either.  It had been coming for weeks beforehand and his decision making on the ball was getting worse and worse until that point.  He 100% let us down there.

The thought of Slot playing the inverted full back is beyond depressing.

What’s really alarming is we’ve got 4 players in that team who are captains of their international team and all we screamed out for last night was leadership, it was fucking pathetic.

The way some of them have downed tools in the last few weeks is incredible I’ve never seen anything like it, if your in a three horse race for the title and that can’t spur you on then they may as well fuck off to a mid table team with no expectation, I’m still fucking raging with that shower of shite last night.

I’m not buying this leadership thing either.  We’ve struggled in games like this loads over the years.  It now seems this nonsense that Henderson shouting at people would have changed things is coming out.  We constantly hear Keane, Neville and Carragher bang on about leadership and it’s complete bullshit.  All of the top teams, in fact most of the league now play in patterns.  It’s not like when they played.  You don’t get players dragging their teams through games.  If players go maverick and start trying to do things by themselves then the system falls apart.

I’ve seen Virg shouting at Trent plenty over the years but what’s he meant to do when the manager keeps indulging him.  What is the captain or any other leader meant to do when the team set up is for the right back to wander around the pitch and walk back to our box or switch off when we lose the ball.  The same for why only one player is going wide at a time.  It’s clearly what they’re being told to do.  The only players effort you could question in the whole team is Trents.  Yet everyone is moaning about it.

Tactically it’s not down to the players to figure these things out because they’re told what to do.  If it was down to the players then you’ve got to be asking the question why the fuck haven’t the staff intervened and said what needs to be done to fix it.  It’s not like this game was a surprise.  We’ve been playing like this for ages.

It does if you know the difference between exuberance and aimlessness.

It’s just word salad.  The net effect on the performance at best would have been we would have got worse.  He’s being coached by the same staff into playing the same system but he’s a child with hardly any top flight experience.  His touch and all round game isn’t good enough yet.  Clarke has played more and looked better but is back from injury and hasn’t played any minutes for ages.  The idea of playing either of them was ridiculous.

  10. 9 minutes ago, TD_LFC said:

    Running around aimlessly isn't hardwork.

We should have taken switched Diaz to the right (being the only one of the forwards showing any kind of application) and put Clarke and Danns on because if nothing else their exuberance would have given the opposition something to think about and we know, albeit in a tiny sample, that Danns is at least capable of finding the net.

So what you’re saying is that running around aimlessly bad - exuberance good.  That doesn’t make any sense at all.

What we needed was the manager to drag the lazy cunt off at half time and our Gomez at right back to support Salah.  He should have told Robertson to stop running inside and then standing in the centre forward position.  We should be doubling up on their full backs to create space for the forwards or chances from the byline.  Instead we just came out the year long failing plan A with the fan base just shouting “get the kid on” it’s embarrassing.

It's not about Danns being a saviour or someone who's going to take the team on his back, it's about having an attacking option who's going to show some type of attacking application (or just hardwork) instead of having to watch Nunez plod around like a peacock with it's tail cut off.

When you're 2 down and getting nothing from your attackers why not give him a go instead of bringing on 4 defensive players when you're chasing the game.

This seems to be another myth that’s developing.  We don’t need hard work from the forwards.  In fact we get hard work from everyone other than Trent (literally any work would from him would do tbf).  Every other player in the team is playing like we are down to 10 men which we basically are when that cunt is on the team sheet.  Darwin Nunez runs around more than anyone.  Diaz is probably second on the list and he’s first on the list of running with the ball.  Salah gets completely killed because we’ve got no right back.  The odd time he does get the ball he’s getting pushed back up the line as he receives it and has to go back to the keeper.  None of this changes by bringing a complete novice kid on.

The substitutions as horrific as they looked actually changed nothing because it’s the horrific set up that’s the problem and has been since we switched to it.  It’s actually relieving that we aren’t guaranteed to be seeing next season.

  12. We’ve got the personnel to do anything.  It’s the reason we are so close to the top of the league.  We’ve won all these games this season from individual quality.  The tactics have been deplorable week in week out for the whole year.

I’ve just watched Klopps post match interview and it’s just complete delusion.  He’s just going on about how many chances we’ve created in the last so many games.  I just don’t understand what he’s watching.  The last half an hour of the game summed up the season.  We never look like scoring because we don’t create chances from the system he plays.  It’s absolutely fucking garbage.  The reason we are here is that game after game he’s just refused to address it and hoped the players quality would get us through but Trent reappearing kyboshed that in this one with his shithouse defending and walking football.  Everyone is slagging off the players but they all ran around and did the same shit Klopps asked all season.

  13. The best thing that happened to our season was that Trent got injured.  We would be struggling for fourth now if he’d been fit.  Klopps only got himself to blame.  It’s an absolute travesty that we’ve just carried on with these fucking garbage tactics week in week out and nobody is pointing out how fucking awful they are.  We don’t create chances building with the ball because everything is crowded in the middle.  We’ve got our fucking right back walking around standing next to our midfielders and nobody knows where to pass the ball and it’s been going on for months.  I’ve got genuinely no idea what he’s meant to be doing in there.  He’s literally playing 5 yard bounce passes back to the centre backs or hiding between Everton players.  It’s fucking insane.

  14. The first minute there is the exact reason that we can not carry on with this fucking crap.  The occasions when Konate gets the ball and Trent just looks at him from about 3 yards away edging towards him just so we can do some pointless triangle to get him the ball in the middle of the pitch so that Konate is the right back out ball.  Why?  What are we getting from this?  And then we give it away and we’ve got the walking cunt at centre back then.  It’s insane.

I think he shit out of it. Had a little look over his shoulder, saw the Everton player coming and didn't fancy the challenge. But that's him isn't it? He must be a managers dream and nightmare all at the same time, so talented but seems to have no interest in doing the ugly stuff.

It’s his behaviour after it as well.  What is going through his mind is genuinely fascinating.  Like he completely devoids himself of any responsibility.  Not trying to get back for a worst case scenario which then develops and he’s a mile away so it can be someone else’s fault.

Couple of shitty comments in this thread saying Klopp is letting us down and that can't be forgiven, by the looks of it. Disgraceful comments.

It’s Rafa levels of stubbornness for crap tactics that haven’t ever worked.  Get Szobo off and put Trent in midfield if you’re that desperate to have him on the pitch.  Deal with his laziness in there.  Stop telling Robertson to do those stupid fucking runs inside and then just stand there thinking he’s going to score.  That one in jury time then where he was pointing for where he wanted the ball in the 6 yard box from an impossible pass was hilarious.  We are a fucking mess and it’s down to Klopp and Lijnders.

  17. We are getting absolutely shafted by the refs.  That’s the reality.  Tarkowski two full hand push in Virg’s back earlier and not a thing.  Konate nudges Calvert Lewin and instant free kick.  The same shit when any of their players hit the deck.  Just blowing instantly for everything.

its the same shit again.  Mr walk parking himself in midfield meaning nobody wide right to help Salah so he’s completely out of the game.  Robertson doing those stupid shite inside runs where he then just stands up front while whoever is out wide left struggle to beat their man.  What the fucking hell are the coaching staff playing at?

  18. The pedigree thing is nonsense really.  There’s been a merry go round of managers that have won things at the dominant clubs in each country around Europe.  They all consistently have the pick of the best players in that country.  They then end up fucking it up or underperforming because they don’t actually do a lot.  We aren’t the dominant team and we don’t spend like a top half team so it’s pointless thinking hiring one of these cunts is going to achieve anything.

Alonso is a bit of a freak situation.  Gone are the days of up and coming managers winning something in a country as an underdog like that.  He would have been ideal but had he not won the league he would still have been the best option.
