I want Johnson but only if it doesn't affect our other targets and to compliment Arbeloa. I think selling Arbeloa is stupid unless he wants to go and it means we now have to buy another right back imo which means two defenders settling in for a season that we should be pushing on to win the league.

 

Our centre backs are not good enough to play right back, I dont want Masch there, will Degen ever be fit and i really dont fancy Darby playing in a team chasing the title.

Andy Smith for Northern Ireland... Seriously, someone please tell me you remember him? At one point he played as the lone striker for Northern Ireland and managed to get 18 caps!

He played at Irish League club Glentoran and scored bucketfuls of goals, then went to Preston and in his first game gave away a penalty that lost them the game. He didn't play much after that for any team on the mainland and is now back in the Irish League...

Regardless of whether one agrees or disagrees with the fee (i think its too much) at least we're signing a player Rafa actually wants. However, if Arbeloa goes to Madrid, aren't we still short of a right back? Or are we relying on Degen and darby as back up? In an ideal world, i'd shop Aurelio and use Arbeloa as left back/cover for right back. Despite a few decent performances last year, Aurelio's really not that good.

I would nt be overjoyed, but i certianly wouldnt be devastated. Better than some of the strikers we've bee linked with... Saviola, Darcheville, Villa :whistle:

People should forget fees or how much anyone is worth. If you want a player you have to pay especially if you are one of the biggest and best clubs in the world. Was Carrick worth 18 mil, of course not, but they won the league.

 

Were Rooney and Rio worth 30 mil, of course not.

 

Fans need to get with the times, not everyone is a liverpool fan who comes for a pay cut, football is their job. Half the time the so called lfc fans turn out shite anyway.

 

If we dont have much money then we have to be careful but if we have a spot to fill then we have to pay the necessary. Do we really need an outstanding defensive rb. We need someone who can break down the shit teams, an overlapping , fast, pacey strong player who can also score a goal. Rafa will improve his defensive game anyway. Our defence is quality, we just need an injury free run.

 

If Johnson costs a lot then so be it, that is football today. If we have a budget then i would obviously walk away but if we were in funds i would pay 15-16 mil for him if needed

Right backs - Alan Hutton at Spurs is a good player IMO. We can't justify spening anything over £10M on GJ.
