I am a bit niaive about political machinations, but could this whole vote-of-no-confidence thing have been orchestrated to get to 48 votes right at this time, to actually solidify her position. Her advisers may have realised that the party can't vote for a leadership challenge with so little time before March 29 - also knowing she then can't be challenged for 12 months.

Bit risky with this bunch of snakes, although the ERG did 'threaten' to release the names of the MPs who'd submitted the letters so there might be something to this.

  2. "Running scared".

I do like this site. Lays it all out nicely.

The only even vaguely impressive result was the 0-0 away to Chelsea. Aside from that, they've won against some dross at home. That's pretty much it. There's three positional bands here- 1-6; 7-13; 14-20. They'll oscillate between 7th and 13th for the rest of the season. They're irrelevant. Yet again. And I can't help thinking that Silva is a fraud.

What was May's thought process through this whole thing? It's been blatantly obvious for some time now that this would never get through parliament. Did she just expect people to change their minds? It's beyond my comprehension just how badly this has been managed!

Thank fuck we got a strong and stable government last year to see us through these difficult times.

  4. Difficult pick, we do seem to currently have a lot of very likeable players. From the down to earth nature of Robertson and Milner, the fun and joie de vivre of Mane, Shaqiri, Alexander-Arnold and Firmino, Alisson and van Dijk's imperiousness, and the placid but steely calmness of Salah and Gomez. All topped off with Klopp's infectious boisterousness. Great bunch of lads. Having to choose 3, I'd go for-

    1. Salah

    2. van Dijk

    3. Alisson

    - based on their game-changing ability. For personality, I'd go for-

    1. Firmino

    2. Mane

    3. van Dijk

That really reminded me of a goal Barosonce scored for us. I’ve a feeling it was against Newcastle or West Brom - I’m seeing stripy shirts in my minds eye.

    anyone able to recall?

Was it this one against Monaco? Apologies for the commentary...

  6. It's bizarre. They're a few points better off than teams like Watford or Bournemouth, mainly because they've beaten some dross at home recently. They're closer to the bottom of the league than the top, and 14 points behind us just over a third into the season. They played well for about a 15 minute spell during the first half on Sunday, and were quite tight in the second.

And yet- completely ignoring the context of the goal- Klopp running on the pitch and the team celebrating the win means we're 'running scared'. Of what, exactly?

  7. Albert Fish- the pervert's pervert, a paedophile cannibal who killed and ate at least 3 and possibly dozens of kids in Depression-era USA.

He was a bit of a cause celebre at school in the '80s when I got a book of weird deaths as a stocking filler and he was listed in it- they had trouble executing him due to all the metal needles he'd inserted in his perineum and scrotum causing the electric chair to short circuit, although it seems that was an urban myth (the short circuit, he definitely had a groin full of metal).

The confession letters on Wikipedia are still shocking, the Billy Gaffney one is particularly hard to read (my own son was the same age as Gaffney when I first read it, and it utterly horrified me). He's fascinating as a horrible, inhuman brute of a man with no redeeming features whatsoever, about as far as you can get from the charming, intelligent Bundy/ Lecter stereotype.
