  1. Wondering what the general opinion on this is. If I had to make a long term choice between the two Id go with Agger. Mainly because he used to get the odd goal and was comfortable with the ball. He also made a nuisance of himself attacking corners.

I think an Agger/Skrtel pairing at centre back could be very good indeed, but that would require the unthinkable axeing of Carra. He's said himself he hasnt got the legs to play full back anymore, which is a big shame as it would be great to accomodate all three.

It would be a brave decision by Rafa, but I think rather than lose Agger in the summer, Id be looking at giving Agger/Skrtel a go from the off next season. Carra could then provide the quality cover and passion when its needed. It would be a big decision but my gut feeling is Carra cant play many more seasons with such intensity whereas Agger could develop a great pairing with Skrtel for many years to come. It may also lengthen Carra's career, but knowing Carra he'd tell me, Rafa and anyone else with this opinion to fuck right off!:smile:

  2. He,s such a complete player, this past week has elevated him above his peers throughout football. The big occasions arrived and he absolutely ran riot. May we see it many many many more times!!!! As you rightly point out, when he retires we will look back and realise we had been priviliged to have the worlds best player in our side, in our era.

  3. What a crap thread. Sounds like a Manc in the playgound. Dont like Keane anymore because he aint in our gang. Some people are just itching for Keane to critisise the club and have probably already written their thread starters in preparation. Seems like this fella just spunked his load a bit too early

  4. What a wazzock. Football is littered with these clowns from top to bottom.

Theres no scenario or result in football you cant twist or spin into something it isnt. Fucking Mark Hughes weighed in with this gem regarding our 4-1 victory

"...this result could be the worst thing Liverpool could have done for their title chances" meaning United are going to go on a winning rampage.

FUCKKKKKINNN HELLLL!?????? LEAVE IT OUT YOU FUCKWIT. What would he have done? Invited United to equalise at 2-1 so it gives them a false confidence for the run-in? Unbelievable.

People that keep harping on about Gerrards chelsea fling need to just watch the Madrid and United games again. If that doesnt do the trick they should check their family history for traces of bitters

  5. Happens in cycles.

Agreed. Uefa will find some way of balancing it out. Either that or a couple of zillionaires will buy Lazio and Chievo!! You heard it here first.

Its great for us to enjoy the glory at the moment but it does seem that the big European clubs seem to be in decline.

In many ways its thier own fault after years of putting all their eggs in one basket and blowing their whole budget each summer on one big name. Not forgetting the match fixing and hooliganism and sacking the manager every 3 weeks.

Last night the top dogs of Italy played United and started with Viera. The guys a legend but not up to that kind of intensity anymore. I suppose the real big names are going to continue to head here for the wages. Surprising given the weather!!

Anyway, much as Ive enjoyed the past 3/4 European campaigns, Im still gunning for revenge over Genoa and Branca and his long free kicks. They cant hide forever!!

  6. Biggest game of the season so far. Its all to play for. I just worry that without Torres it could be very difficult getting a goal, especially if they nick one. We're a bit short of options, and if chasing a game, Rafa can be short of ideas. The first 20mins is crucial for us.

Id love torres to blow Real and then united out of the water, Ive just got a hunch he will hardly feature in both games.

That said, WE. ARE. LIVERPOOL. Lets have it!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. How much cover do we need and how are these players supposed to develop or keeping a decent level unless they get games.

    (1.David Martin, 23 years old - keeper)

    2.Hakan Duyan, 17 years old - keeper

    3.Peter Gulacsi, 18 years old - keeper

4.Martin Hansen, 18 years old -keeper

    5.Charles Itandje, 26 years old - keeper

6.Diego Cavalieri, 26 years old -keeper

    7.Pepe Reina, 26 years old - keeper

I dont know much if anything about 2, 3 and 4 on this list, but do they get the games needed to develop and if Martin is so bad he cant be trusted to be Reina`s backup(has he ever been injured by the way) why not just release him or sell him?

Thats a staggering amount of keepers. Makes me wonder how we once ended up getting an emergency loan deal for Paul Jones after a few injuries. Im not actually 100% sure when that was, get a feeling it was under houllier, but I bet if Reina and Cavalieri got injured we'd do something similar again

  8. Cisse was and will never be good enough for Liverpool FC, quite clearly shown by where he is plying his trade now.

As for comparing the two their stats are pretty much identical for us.

Also, Kuyt isn't his replacement - he was bought because of his ability to play in any position in an attacking quartet. Cisse can only play upfront.

Dont agree with that. Benitez certainly didnt sign Kuyt thinking he'd make a good wide man or in an "attacking quartet. He just realised he wasnt all that good as an out and out striker but shoe horned him in as he didnt want to be seen as wrong.

In fairness to Kuyt, he's adapted admirably. But it was never the plan.

Rafas dogged persistence with some players and absolute ignorance of others leads to a very unsettled feel to the squad, which is often reflected by the

    players and us fans.

  9. If he doesn't this time around, I'd say that means Rafa simply doesn't think he's good enough.

There is one other thing, Rafa needs to have a right back in place for the return leg against Real Madrid. If he doesn't trust Darby to play that game, he should play Martin there tomorrow to give him some more time to adjust to the role before the big boys arrive in town next week.

    Martin

  10. Bringing back up the Masch/Momo debate, the fact is both players should still be at Liverpool. This is a big difference between us and United. They seem able to keep world class players happy who arent starting every week. If they ever have a player who moans abouts this we certainly dont here about it, unlike us where we regularly get to read about the bitching between Rafa, agents and players like agger, keane, benayoun, sissoko etc. Is this down to rafas management style?

I dont subscribe to the idea that Momo was never going to rediscover any form and it was a good deal, especially with Lucas being our option as back up. It seems Rafa bemaons not having a big squad of world class players but he's definately had the opportunity to have had a subs bench packed with talent. I guess some signings he's made were on the proviso he sells but thats not always the case. It must also come down to rafas judgement, especially considering the fees paid Lucas, Dossena and Degen.

Admittedly, some of the players that have left he has got decent fees for but at the same time he's wasted an awful lot of that.

Id much rather have players like Agger (who will 100% be a better player than Skrtel) and Keane and sissoko on our bench throwing the occasional hissy fit than the options we have now.

  11. It really showed some great moments. Morientes and Riedle looked like world beaters!

Cannot get over that though. United get absolutely dicked for 89 minutes and then score two scrappy tap ins. Not saying it wasnt an eye opening comeback, but to seriously say it was better than ours, having just shown the highlights of our game, which lasted about ten times longer than their highlights takes the current United love boat to unchartered waters

  12. Staggering. Just watched "greatest champions league moments" on Itv4. All the usual great goals, saves etc.

Then comes the climax of the show: The greatest champions league comeback of all time as voted for by Earle, Townsend, pleat etc......They vote uniteds win against Munich!!!!!!!!!!!! I was Fuckin speechless!

Id have understood if it was a richard keys hairy united wank fest but they all actually sat there, straight faced and said although our game was great, for "sheer drama" you couldnt beat the united game.

They should be taken off the fucking air. Jonathon Ross got banned for less shite talking.

  13. They took in £90m more than us last year. Rafa has spent money, but too often we've had to solve 4 or 5 problems in the same summer and the money has had to be spread too thin. United have been able to add quality time and again, and more importantly, they've been able to take risks on young players like Ronaldo, Nani and Anderson.

Rafa has made a few important mistakes in the transfer market (last summer especially) but they have a huge financial advantage over us.

How much was Ronaldo? I seem to remeber it being no more than 12million? Not much more than Babel. He was also a rough diamond when he arrived but they've nurtured him properly. I think it shows Rafas man-management up a bit

  14. Our time is near. I truly believe we're not far away, despite the general doom and gloom at the moment.

I think a big factor for us winning the title in the coming seasons will come from the up the road. Ferguson has to retire soon (fingers crossed this summer) and I think that will signal the tide turning. The upheaval and change of managerial style will de-rail them.

People will point to the fact that we will probably change mangers too, but it pains me to say it, he's so bloody good I think they'll find him irreplacable.

Until then we need to just support the TEAM, not the management, board etc and not get so so downcast when we dont have it all our own way. UP THE REDS
