  1. If Ancelotti walks/gets sacked, you got to wonder what sort of manager would want to work in those circumstances. Someone who would be just happy that Chelsea were after him and could look forward to a big pay day if things don't work out. Or maybe a manager who feels he has nothing to prove, is comfortable in his own skin and would only see it as a short term role to deliver what Abramovich wants ie CL. One that could fall into the latter category and if Chelsea want someone with great CL pedigree, there's Ottmar Hitzfeld.
  2. On the basis that all the players he wants are at his disposal in the summer; which system do you guys reckon Kenny is most likely to play next season, 4-4-2 or 4-3-3?
  3. Carroll was being looked at for the summer anyway, as Torres' replacement. The club have been taking a good look at Connor Wickham. Lukaku would cost a lot, so young strikers like Wickham are most likely, you would think. I reckon we are definitely looking at another striker.
  4. You guys who've seen bit of Gervinho; he's doesn't have very good delivery then? Would he significantly improve our attacking play, or only be just a decent addition?
  5. Could Gervinho play as an out-and-out winger in a 4-4-2, if required, and provide genuine width and get good crosses in?
  6. QPR Youth Manager Marc Bircham was just on talksport. He's good mates with P Dalglish, and said having spoken to Paul about Sterling a few months ago, he was told how highly Kenny rated him.
  7. It was reported that Comolli was at the game where Lille played Toulouse a few days ago. It's a long standing fact that we are looking at Lille's players; I wonder if he looked at any of Toulouse's players: M Sissoko (?).
  8. Yeah, I remember him being quoted as saying that more than once.
  9. It was announced several months ago that he would leave at the end of the season. He only did an interview on BBC Five Live a week or two ago on Chelsea's youth, so don't think he's left yet. He's also still on their official website.
  10. Wasn't Comolli adamant that he wouldn't go back to Etienne to buy their players?
  11. Kenny & Co obviously know how to handle him best. He's one that I wouldn't be too keen to see get 1st team action too soon not only because he's a 16 yr old boy, but with his small frame at the moment, I don't want to see him get hurt by some of the neanderthals out there. When he matures, even if he doesn't get that much bigger, he should be OK just like SWP was.
  12. In fairness to Spurs, if they reach the Q finals, at least, in their debut CL season, that's a good effort. Although the quality of European teams, apart from Barca, and also Real because of the Mourinho factor, is very poor, just like the PL. Connor Wickham just scored a hat-trick in Ipswich's 6-0 lead against Doncaster.
  13. Yeah, Lombardo was a class player. Good shout that. I can't remember, Was he an out-and-out winger? I think I've heard Bruno Conti's name before. You have any recollection of him as a player Scottish Steve?
  14. On Inzaghi: he became the oldest player to score in the CL at 37 years and 85 days in Nov 2010. I think that's what it was. I didn't realise he was that much older than Raul.
  15. Tmrw's game should be a proper game of football. I didn't realise Raúl was still the leading goalscorer in the CL with 68, unless I'm mistaken having checked on Wiki. For some reason I thought Inzaghi had broken his record. He is way behind with 46. Unless I imagined it all, what record or feat did Inzaghi achieve in the CL?
  16. Raul scored an equalizer for Schalke against Valencia. Still scoring in the CL at his age.
  17. According to a site called dugout.tv which came up after I did a search, this list of Italian Wingers was posted in 09. Don't know anything about any of them: Alessandro Maria Cascio - 18, Cisco Roma Luca Tremolada - 16, Inter Antonio Candreva - 21, Livorno (on loan from Udinese) Nicola Madonna - 21, AlbinoLeffe Michael Cia - 19, Triestina (on loan from Alto Adige) Gianluca Sansone - 21, Siena Luca Siligardi - 20, Bari (on loan from Inter) Ilario Aloe - 21, Ascoli Andrea Censori - 19, Valle del Giovenco Fausto Rossi - 17, Juventus Cristian Suarino - 18, Sorrento (on loan from Catania) Antonino Barilla - 20, Reggina Aleandro Rosi - 21, Livorno (on loan from Roma) Antonio Zito - 22, Siena
  18. I think his best position is striker, I think that's the position he made his name in at Sampdoria. I haven't really seen him play, to be honest. Not many names jump out though, do they? Argentine born and ex Juventus player Mauro Camoranesi used to play on the right side of midfield. Not many regarded him as top class, but some rated him though. I never knew why; he was hardworking and used to provide a bit of balance when played on the right side of midfield; but, technically and skill wise, an average player. I wonder if this is because of the philosophy of Italians and the style of play they are renowned for; even though they have produced some really creative players like Baggio, Zola and the demented Cassano. Whereas the Dutch consistently produce wingers, and they are renowned for a particular style of play. Spain produce a lot of CMs who have passing ability and vision. They also produce quality wingers; but in the national team they are not embraced as much as and are not as influential as the CMs.
  19. I'm watching on a stream and got BBC Five Lives commentary on. Stream only about 3 secs behind Five Live. Will do me...
  20. On the Italian theme, can anyone think of many (any) top class Italian Wingers, past or present?
  21. I meant he spent a long time as PSV's DOF, so he and Jol were probably familiar with each other from Holland. He's reportedly set to leave Chelsea in the summer. Not sure how his time, and having been enticed from Spurs on a multi million pound deal, will be assessed at Chelsea. I don't know how much say he has - he's clearly got Abromavich's ear though - but their planning, especially after winning the double last year, has been abysmal.
  22. Yep, that's right. Forgot about him. I think, generally, Jol may have had a better relationship with Arnesen than he did with Comolli, due to the Dutch connection (?).
