Vow to fight EU migrant benefit bid
(UKPA) – 2 hours ago
The Government has vowed to fight the European Commission over efforts by Brussels to lift British social security restrictions designed to curb "benefit tourism".
Current social security rules limit benefit claims for immigrants to those who can prove they have a good prospect of finding work and have a long-term commitment to the UK. Migrants considered not to be "economically active" are turned down.
But now the Commission says the so-called "right to reside" rules break EU laws.
A Government spokesman insisted that the current arrangements are "right for the UK" and prevent "unsustainable burdens being placed on our social security system".
However, the Commission's next step is likely to be formal infringement proceedings against the UK which could end in the European Court of Justice.
A ruling against the Government could force changes in the "Habitual Residency Test", introduced more than 25 years ago but tightened further in 2004, when EU expansion extended access rights to citizens of eight poor central European countries.
Government officials say that, without the current restrictions, the Treasury's annual benefits bill could soar by as much as £2.5 billion in payouts such as the jobseeker's allowance, currently only available to those who have previously worked for at least a year in the UK, and income support.
The Government spokesman said: "We are in discussions with the Commission as, in our view, the current rules are within the law and are right for the UK, and changing them now would not be in our interest.
"Our rules fully support the freedom of workers within the EU, whilst making sure that there are reasonable restrictions on access to social security for those who have never worked in the UK.
"This prevents unsustainable burdens being placed on our social security system. We will argue our case and work towards a favourable outcome."
The Press Association: Vow to fight EU migrant benefit bid
The EU is attempting to bully us into accepting benefit claimants from all across the EU. Any unemployed bum could come from Europe and sign up to the JSA right away if the EU gets its way. As if we don't have enough unemployed of our own to feed and house, the Europeans will be on it soon enough. Many of them already are in actual fact, but the EU's demands would make the situation even worse.
I really fail to see what benefits being in the EU bring to the UK. Norway and Switzerland are doing just fine without it. We'd survive too. Time to tell the EU to fuck off, what a joke that the UK should be dictated to by these idiots in Brussels.

Labour have ensured they will not be in power for a long time with the election of their new leader. For a people who are already taxed so highly Ed's policy of raising taxes even more is hardly going to win much public support. The people of the country would prefer the Tory policy of cutting waste as opposed to raising tax. Labour are too stupid to realise this because they still believe they were right to spend money they never had, and would rather punish the taxpayer by raising taxes to pay for the economic mess they created. No reasonable person could possibly support such a crude policy to improve the economy. Which is why Labour won't be returning to power for a while, thank god.

What do you plan on doing with the desktop? If it's for gaming or using power applications you can't buy or build a decent machine with just £300. If it's for general web surfing and word processing or the like your best bet is to go the likes of Dell who can build a solid machine of that type. Personally I would build the fucker myself but these days that's more expensive than buying an assembled machine.

Is he going to bone you as a gesture of goodwill on your part? Seems only fair.

Are these people actual scousers? I mean I'd get it if they were from out of town but they're actually from Liverpool?
Nope, it's not because she's an out-of-towner, it's because she's a thick bint who doesn't know shit about football. Like most birds.

Perfectly valid goal. Torres was clever enough to spot a syupid mistake from the Sunderland defender and took advantage of it. Bruce is a whingey cunt, it's all he ever does after a game, bitch about referees. Fuck him and his fat head.
-
I didn't know David Villa played for City. Shearer kept seeing him out there in a City shirt for some reason. He's gone mental.

I'd fuck her. No lame golfing euphemism for me.

As I and many other sensible folk have long advocated, the Tories are going to finally abolish many pointless and expensive Quango's. This will save the country billions, although it will result in further unemployment.
Some 177 quangos 'to be scrapped' by the governmentThe Health Protection Agency is said to be one of the quangos due to be scrapped
Some 177 quangos, or taxpayer-funded public bodies, could be scrapped by the government, a leaked document suggests.
The Daily Telegraph says it shows the Health Protection Agency and the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority are two due to be abolished.
A further four bodies are said to be facing privatisation, with an additional 129 set to be merged.
The Cabinet Office said the leak was "irresponsible" and it regretted extra uncertainty for employees it caused.
'Improving efficiency'
The Telegraph listed the 177 quangos due to be abolished, and said an additional 94 remained under threat of being scrapped in the future.
These are said to include the BBC World Service, the corporation's main overseas arm.
The list is also said to confirm that the Audit Commission, the UK Film Council, and eight regional development agencies will close, as had already been announced by the government.
A spokeswoman for the Cabinet Office said: "We are not going to comment on the specific details of a leaked document.
"The government has made it clear that it is committed to radically increasing accountability and improving efficiency."
She explained that work was already under way to make substantial reforms to public bodies, and "an announcement would be made in due course".
The spokeswoman added: "We deeply regret any extra uncertainty for employees that this irresponsible leak has caused."
The quangos that the leaked document is said to show will be allowed to continue include the Food Standards Agency and mediation service Acas.
The four to be privatised are claimed to be the Film Industry Training Board, the Construction and Skills Training Board, the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board and the horse racing industry's Tote Board.
Two of those due to be merged are reportedly the National Lottery Commission and the Gambling Commission.
A Labour Party spokesman said the government was "playing politics with people's jobs".
He added: "Any government should be looking to cut bureaucracy - but that shouldn't be confused with hitting valuable services in areas where independence is crucial."

Christ, this can't be happening....

We're the only team playing extra time tonight. Embarrassing.

The Indians had 7 years to prepare for this and still they managed to fuck it up. And why didn't the people in charge of these games think to check on the progress over the past few years? Looks like they only bothered checking up a few weeks before the games are due to begin.

He made a good point about no prize money for the 147. Having a special prize is a given in snooker but Hearn's new event has fuck all, despite him promising more money. Bet Ronnie now feels like an idiot for previously backing Hearn to the hilt.

We've tried our best this season to be the worst Liverpool team in history but STILL the BS are worse than us. Forever in our shadow, even when we're shit.
-
Don't worry, our ruthless justice system will see to it the perpetrators of this crime spend at least 10 minutes in the slammer before their human rights are breached, compelling the law to release them.

Is the correct answer.
Bonafide genius and the Higgins of our times.
I thought that was this chap?

These games are a waste of time anyway. Whose bright idea was it to award the games to Delhi? Hardly surprising not a single top athlete will be participating.

Ferguson, the cunt, is accusing Torres of trying to get O'Shit sent off. Where is our manager's defence? Why doesn't Roy point out that (a) O'Shit took out Torres when he was clean through, which is a straight red by rules of the book, and (b) point out the sheer hypocrisy from Ferguson considering his man Nani spent the whole fucking day diving, trying to get our players booked? Roy really needs to man up or get out, he will get trampled by the big boys at the top unless he grows a pair, sharpish.
-
Come on, I don't like the whingey git anymore but that was class. Comes to the table with virtually every ball yet to be potted and asks the ref what the prize money for the 147 is. Then promptly clears the table and cheekily almost leaves before potting the final black. Quality.
-
The real mystery, considering the talented players they have at their disposal, is how on earth Maxi managed to play in most of Argentina's world cup games? Surely even a lunatic like Maradona could see there were better options?
-
Not liking this friendship bollocks Roy has with Ferguson. We need animosity between the clubs, god knows we get plenty of it from Ferguson, the last thing we need is our own manager sucking up to the drunken jock.
-
I don't know what he offers, not at all suitable for this league.
-
All I'm going to say in this thread cause I can't be arsed with the hysterical little girls.
Roy's tactics were spot on today. We got beat at old toilet by a better side on the day, not the first time and it wont be the last.
Bollocks. Old Man United were there for the taking but we showed no ambition. Awful display and a gutless performance from the manager.

We're going down with the BS.
Yet more reason for the UK to leave the EU

One of the many reasons.
