  1. Really? they received £20m for Rooney!!!!

£28m nett is not peanuts, how many other Premier League clubs have spent more? Two maybe?

Your'e forgetting the 10 million pay off Ged & his staff received.

Plus bad losses on Cheyrou, Diao and Diouf.

That's the real cause of our 'poor' finances.

  2. when i posted the thread, i specifically mentioned his superb performances v man u and chelsea

i also made it clear that he lacks distribution

one of the most important attributes for a player in his position is to know his limitations and do the simple stuff well. he sometimes tries things i can't see him ever pulling off and consequently gives the ball away

  3. i completely agree, he is utterly terrible. I can't Believe he was gettin picked over the great JAR at the start of the season, and that he made the england squad! he is complete rubbish, and should be sold for a ridiculous amount

what on earth does that mean?

and "the great JAR"?!? common mitchd... be a little reasonable

  4. I think Kuyt would be awesome. and someone i have been thinking of is... Germaine Defoe. He can't be happy at Tottenham not getting any game time, and he will need to go to a bigger club to prove himself for the world cup so im hoping we can get him... if he is on offer.

the sale of Cisse should give us another 5-7 mil to play with for a right winger, and if we dump dudek maybe spend the rest of the money on a GOOD goalie, not all these dodgy ones we keep buying and we should be all sweet for next season.

firstly its Jermaine, and this has been discussed many times in this forum.

secondly, if he needs to prove himself for the world cup, i think it's a little too late now don't you? - ever heard of the transfer window?

the sale of cisse would be to bring in another striker, and i'm sure the funds are already in place for the winger we so obviously need

a final point to say that if you think Reina is dodgy, and if you are insinuating that we sell him, i'd prefer to leave that comment for the other forumites to answer.. i just don't have the energy

    :dunno:

  5. Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed his superb performances v man u and chelsea

the lad has great potential, and it seems he can do it in the big games too

his distribution is poor at times, but once he has that under control, me thinks he will be a force to be reckoned with

  6. Theres a difference between leaving the actual game early and switching the tele off with 20 minutes to go. Can anyone honestly say they enjoyed watching the last 20 minutes of the game?

can't say i understand that mentality. i have never turned the tele off, nor left a game early.

still, i refuse to criticise you, as i'm sure you deal with your emotions differently to me.

feel sorry for the travelling army. that must have been a nigthmare trip.

  7. rafa goes on about small details winning tight games.

well playing your best eleven constitutes 11 small details, and there is no way that was our strongest eleven!

riise has to start at left back, and i can't believe some of you do not think he is our best choice there, irrespective of the need for a new left back

we needed either cisse (my choice), moro or even garcia up front with crouch, and i reckon we may have snatched the win. hindsight is a wonderful thing tho.

the flipside to this theory is our 5 man midfield.

we were able to strangle the life out of them, opening 30 minutes, and may not have been able to do that with just the 4.

however, i think rafa should have seen this as a no-lose situation, and much like at old trafford were he (surprisingly) went 442, i think that would have been the best move here.

and please rafa - whoever you bring on the right, please please please make sure they can deliver from set-pieces. we badly need it!

ps - title of thread is bang out of order and not constructive in the slightest

  8. Depends on how much we have to spend in the summer. Can't see our budget being much more than £15 million, which will have to be split between three signings - assuming we don't sell anybody. Could have a bigger kitty if there are a few lads sold. I think Ashton would have been perfect for us, but he was a bit over-priced, and that's not going to happen now he's gone to the Hammers. I'm not sure Owen is reliable enough in terms of fitness to justify the fee we'd have to pay, and Defoe is too much of a question mark. Kuyt looks the best option on paper, but I don't much fancy our chances of getting him.

I reckon owen's fitness has been fine

a broken foot doesn't quite fall into the 'dodgy fitness' category

he'd be a welcome addition imo

also, i think we'd be in pole position to sign kuyt. can't see spurs beating us to his signature

agree with you on defoe, and reckon the same for torres

  9. I've noticed the Usual suspects couldnt wait to lay into him after todays performance in which he played OK

However lets not forget why Rafa bought him which was to help us qualify for the CL and improve our performance away from home in the PL

Crouch has been a huge success on both counts and therefore fully justified the faith shown in him by Rafa

If he is part of the first 11 who bring the PL back home is another matter entirely but Crouch has delivered on all counts and proved the manager right to buy him

i think once we have a real finisher alongside him, thats when we will experience his true worth

i, for one, still back him

  10. Rafa's comment was brilliant. Sarcasm in a Spanish accent, and to be honest you could see that if he'd been able to speak his thoughts in Spanish at the time there'd be some even better stuff said. Well in Rafa.

i watched the game with a valencia fan in a pub in dubai, and when my brother phoned to inform us of the comments, the fella just nodded knowingly like he kind of expected it

he said that rafa always came out with gems in spain, and he's sure that there'll be plenty more were that came from!

    get in there Rafa!

ps - he reckons rafa will ship out moro and cisse and bring in 1 if not 2 top quality strikers. fingers crossed

  11. there's this fella who owened a club in green park, london

reckons he walked in on sol doing lennox lewis 'a favour' as he puts it

and that was in 96! these rumours have been circulating in london since his spurs days

  12. :D :D :D

Was there a reason apart from being too shit for his release?

well apparently he was a regular last season, but dropped to 3rd choice start of this one. he featured quite regularly, so it might well have something to do with the sissoko incident

    what a loser :D

  13. Remember him? the one who got sent off for racism at momo?

well, i'm in dubai at the mo, and this fella was released by anderlecht last month and joined al ain in the emirates first division

just watched highlights of his debut.

    scored after 8 minutes.

elbows a player off the ball after 15.

    three match ban! quality

and from his teammates, 9 of the starting 11 were black!

  14. Everyone gets things wrong. I was adamant to my mate that Hyypia wasn't good enough after about 5 games, and I was proven to be outrageousely wrong. That's the beauty of football...

and i seriouslt thought diouf was the best player we could have possibly bought at the time! although i got the hype from my cousin who's a big montpellier fan!

anyhow, Ian's right. And i'm sure the manager, the tactics and the team's style of play are important factors in whether a player succeeds or not (although the truly world-class ones seem to do it anyway!)

  15. Don't agree he was under no pressure. He was closed down by about three players, with no other options to pass to. If he finds Finnan then it starts a counter attack as there was a shit load of space on the right. Kewell great game but still not 100%. At 100% he goes past three players and scores. At the moment there is still a touch of indecision, he will go past two players then get it nicked by a third, whereas at his absolute best he will go past five if he needs to and get in an end product(shot or pass). That is what I saw at Leeds anyway, heven't quite seen it at Liverpool, though this is the closest.

Thats the final step. but he's getting there. incedentally i thought Agger wasn't really tested to be fair. And Sami seemed to win everything in the air, putting even less pressure on him. Plus he could have cost us a goal with a traore-like clearance. and was it just me, or did he completely lose heskey which led to reina's save, the corner, the pressure and hence the goal? and why were there 2 brummie players v one liverpool defender for the header that led to the goal? crap defending all-round and i'm really annoyed. but not down-hearted. i fancy us to beat the loadsamonies

  16. Because I think drink driving is despicable. It's the epitome of a selfish, "fuck everyone else" attitude. To do it once is immature (although I think that's an extremely generous way of describing behaviour that could easily result in death), but to repeat offend is outrageous and indicative of either a major attitude problem or a major alcohol problem. Either way, I don't want him here.

    i hear you paul.

i think some fans would want him here based on our fruitless search for a RW and the hopefully-low fee he would command. perhaps as a short-term cheapish option it may be worth the risk. although i'd prefer we got someone else (except milner!)

  17. I'm surprised at you, Browny. That's the first unfair comment I've ever seen you make about one of our players. Garcia works harder than virtually any other flair player (for want of a better name) I've seen.

    again i have to agree

and i love the way he's always trying! never fault a player for effort. and i'm sure as soon as we do have someone who can offer more, he will be there ahead of little luis

  18. speaking of cling ons, then number of mates that couldn't get tickets for istanbul was heart-wrenching. i can't imagine how dave u felt.

so here's me, on the plane from london, all excited trying to figure out how we're going to beat milan, when i picked up on a conversation by two cockney-reds sitting behind me.

first fella goes on about the 500 quid he spent on the ticket being money well spent, considering he hadn't seen the reds live since wimbledon away!

second fella then goes on to say sinama pongolle should start the game!

i felt for you there dave u, i really did.
