  1. The older ball should be piss easy to bat against. With Cook dropping anchor and Stokes seeing it nicely, big scores ought to be available if they both settle in the morning. Cook at his best could bat for a year on a pitch like that. No illusions though, saving this game is a damn big task.
  2. I do agree about Root. Except the thing is, the way we bat, he's been coming in as a conventional number 3 anyway. Ball still hard, no runs on the board, early doors. The only real difference would be we could start the recovery earlier!
  3. I actually really enjoyed myself at Lords for the NZ test in May. Yeah, there were a few cork-poppers around, but loads of sound people too. First day I had two loudmouthed Yorkshiremen in their 70s on one side who kept things entertaining, and day four I was sat with a rowdy bunch of kiwis and South Africans who were pounding the beer all day. Even the toffs on the end of their row had a laugh with them. Then the fifth day was obviously completely mental. Even the members were jumping around, shouting and yelling in their daft striped jackets. Kids swarming around the place on free entry. And an amazing finish. It clearly wasnt a normal lords test, but it was my first and I'd happily go back. My worst time at international cricket was actually at the Oval. I swear I was the only one for about four rows who was there to watch the game. Bunch of over exaggerated middle class cockneys talking about real estate deals and holidays in Spain, caught up in their egos so much that they didn't even notice wickets falling... And occasionally breaking out into borderline racist abuse of the sri lankans-- players and fans. I assume that wasn't typical either, but it put me right off the ground. Bunch of cunts. In other news, England are fucked.
  4. He also gave up 200 runs in the match in what was, I think, the only time he's played England at Lord's - 2009. If he couldn't control his line at Cardiff, how will he bowl on the slope at Lord's? It's talked about more as a menace to the batsman, but the gradient means bowlers have to bowl a very consistent line or they become very hittable. In that respect, I might be more concerned if Siddle was playing. Dull? Yes. Consistent? Absolutely. That's going to be important over the next five days. Going to be interesting, anyway. I've got no work on at the moment, so think I'm going to shock myself out of bed at 4am to watch the first session.
  5. When I saw this thread on the first page, I instinctively did the old, "Hunh, did she die? I bet she didn't, and it's just some cunt posting a newspaper article about her." Then I remembered the horrible vermin really is dead, and I smiled.
  6. Basically, Nathan Lyon happened. They've got the spinner they want, dont need to be calling up an inferior bowler.
  7. If the forecasts hold, looks like there'll be a few showers passing through around noon on Sunday, then cloudy and humid the rest of the day's play. With a new ball presumably taken around the end of Saturday/beginning of Sunday, that could work in our favour. Get the new rock swinging and skidding to shake out any stubborn Aussies. Definitely England's game to lose.
  8. Some good times to be had in Turkey, as you're in the neighbourhood. If I was halfway there already, I'd want to have a look at south Africa.
  9. Agree with that. I would have liked to have 3 or 4 overs at them tonight to try to sneak a wicket, but as that's not possible.... Oh piss off. As I type that, Ali goes.
