  1. Disjointed leggy performance. Undone by route 1 football again.Dug out by a route 1 goal as well- been a while since we had one of them!

Delighted by the result, but we have to learn the art of taking the sting out of a game when winning. We were comfortable for 75 minutes, but tha last 15 you could see us almost inviting them on, desperate clearances straight back to them etc. It has to be a mental thing- hopefully the team will learn that over time.

Anyway, great result, good festive period for us, roll on Friday and the Bitters.

  2. Robertson had a poor game- every cross hit the first man except one which was overhit and went out near the opposite corner flag- but did make a gret covering tackle at the end so I suppose did his job.

We have to stop giving away stupid goals, especially in tight games- bet they only had one shot on target in the whole game.

No idea why we invited them onto us last 15. I can understand stiffening up the defence, but I think we know by now that our best form of defense is to keep the ball away from our penalty area as much as possible.

Anyway, 3 lovely points- onwards redmen.

  3. Shit decision by the ref on Sunday but I blamed Lovren more for being stupid. Tonight though, that shit decision is all down the the ref (or whoever told him not to give it). 99 times out of a hundred that goal is given for the attacker. 100 times ouit of a hundred if a defender does that its not a freekick (unless its one of our defenders at OT). Getting a bit pissed off with these shit referees now.l

  5. Not blaming Klopp for the team- that team should have scored 6 or 7. I will blame him for sticking with brain dead retards like Lovren and Mignolet (and Moreno). That was a really soft decision, if not a dive- but you're only 1-0 up, the opposition have had the ball in your box twice in 75 minutes- anyone with half a brain would tread very carefully- but oh no, not our brave tough defender. Dickhead.

  6. Sideways sideways sideways. Run 5 yards forwards with the ball, opponent comes towards you, turn around and pass backwards. Sideways sideways sideways. Overhit wayward pass straight to the keeper. Rinse and repeat.

I get that we have to be patient trying to break down a packed defence. I can see the patience, but where's the attempt to break down the packed defence?

Edit: Pen! See what happens when you get the ball into the box?

  7. OK Pompoms- anyone still trying to defend this defending? Even Ratboy gets it- incomprehensible that we havent signed two top class centre backs and and keeper in the last 6 years.

Klopp's not blameless- he's signed some of them / refused to bin some of them- but the sodding cowboys holding the purse strings need calling out over this.

  8. I don't think anyone played that badly- its just the usual Mourinho anti-football show. Given that we're in a pretty poor run of form at the moment that's not a terrible result. The usual suspects- Henderson, Lovren, Moreno- all did OK. Yes we're lacking quality in a number of positions, but can't do anything about that now. Might watch MOTD if the other top 6 lose.

Or maybe my expectations have been dumbed down too.

  9. Its not unreasonable for the OP to be critical of the manager without wanting him to be sacked. I love Klopp but for the life of me cannot see why the defence hasn't been improved in 2 years, and asking why shouldn't be out of bounds.

In terms of expectations, if we really are reduced to scraping 4th is a good season then thats not acceptable. Sure, short term getting top 4 is a good thing, IF it leads to more money and better players. But I think people are disappointed at the transfer window and see it as a massive opportunity missed to kick on. Inadequate transfer window (1 great signing, 1 kid for the future, 1 left back who isnt getting a regular look in, 1 player for next year, while we've lost a couple, and the squad struggled to cope last season even without CL football), failure to see any discernible improvement in midfield or defence, out of one of the 2 trophies we had a realistic chance of winning in the first round- surely you can see why some people might think this is not great progress?

I don't feel more confident about improving our league position compared to last year given how our competition for top 4 have strengthened (City, Mancs) or were and remain better defensively than us (Spurs, Chelsea). I know we don't have a divine right to win the league or CL, but given our history surely that is what we should be aspiring to? Especially as the 9th richest club in the world?

Shots against- don't care if we are conceding least shots against if the majority of those shots are converted into goals. Maybe we are conceding really clear cut chances? Maybe our defensive errors are so bad that a goal is the inevitable outcome?

I'm not convinced that VVD will miraculously solve all the problems, but a better less error prone player will improve our chances of conceding fewer goals. I think we also need to look at the screening provided by the midfield, and that is something that Klopp could do something about.

  10. Was thinking after 15 minutes Lovern's making Ming look good here. At least 3 unforced errors, one of which would normally have led to a goal.

Then Ming gets caught dithering and they nearly score, and I remember why everyone wants him replaced.

He was fouled for Leicester's goal, but really should have taken everyone out there- goalies rarely get penalized for that.

Klopp should be banging on the ref's door at halftime, telling him to have a look at the foul. Cant reverse the goal but might put some doubt in his mind for the second half. Mourinho / Ferguson would be all over that.

  11. Tottenham and Liverpool will go head to head in a battle to land German midfielder David Philipp…Liverpool are interested in RB Leipzig’s 18-year-old French defender Dayot Upamecano

Hmmmm. It should be fairly obvious to everyone now that the policy of buying young promising players to develop them isn't going to achieve what the fans want i.e. success on the field. It may well work wonders for the balance sheet.

The majority of promising youngsters are not going to become superstars. Those that do will want to move to a club that wins things, not hang around waiting for the next crop of promising youngsters to come to fruition.

I cant get excited about yet more promising 18 year olds that may or may not develop, are likley to end up being on loan for 4 of the next five years, and then released on a free. Sorry.
