  1. But it's got the never released Star Fox 2!

    But no Street Fighter 2.

I'd quite like to have the mini nes, this and a gamecube if they eventually make one but given Nintendo's deliberate under producing of the original (which they've said they won't do this time) and sudden ceasing of production they can go fuck themselves.

I've got a GBA emulator on my phone, some megadrive games on their as well, I'll just add a snes emulator to it.

  2. My point you, I'm assuming deliberately avoided is the first 'valuation' or price given is what FSG feed the press.

LFC after Luis Suarez for £12m

Who the fuck you think put that valuation out there?

Given the first links to Keita involved Arsenal (edit for clarity: Arsenal and us) and the Van Dijk links referenced Southampton and Puel i'll go with not us?

Even if the initial price hikes didn't exist you're still looking at an increase of 50 million on the two, you can do alot with 50 million.

  3. Who quoted £30m?

Because it sure as fuck wasn't RBL, so the price hasn't jumped at all.

    Who's quoting 50 and 80?

Have Leipzig specifically come out and given actual quotes on the price?

If not how are you judging which 'sources close to the club' stories are credible or not or are you purely judging it on what fits your need?

  4. No they haven't.

Where did the first price come from in each situation?

The fucking club telling journos we're after X player and this much will get them.

Keita was being quoted as 30 million in May.

Van Dijk 40 million in December, now, he must have been fucking impressive on that treatment table to jump 30 million quid while injured.

  5.

Again, I don't think the club's constant leaking of information can be separated from the selling clubs' justified position of playing hardball. Didn't a few journalists - completely coincidentally of course - state a few weeks back that the club intended breaking all records in terms of transfer outgoings this summer? How did they expect that one to play out when they sat down with other clubs to negotiate?

Thats a conclusion anyone could have drawn given the prices being quoted for the targets being mentioned.

If our 3 main targets were Salah, Van Dijk and Keita, you have Leipzig saying there players (be it Forsberg, Keita or anyone else) aren't for sale and Southampton saying earlier in the season that they're now in a position where they don't have to sell, coupled with everything else going on in the transfer window that gives you an indication of which way the market is heading then it doesn't take a genius to come to that conclusion.

Thats before you filter whats actually said through the need to generate clicks where a 'yes we're interested in player X' becomes a You'll never guess which superstar is heading to anfield, click here to find out' headline.

I'm not sure any conversation took place where the club specifically said 'write a story about how we're going to spend millions and break transfer records' because it serves no purpose.

  6. On the club leaking issue, it's too much of a coincidence for me. Three or four 'club' journalists have had more or less the same updates on the same day on our progress (or, usually, lack thereof) over the last several windows, for players with a variety of clubs across Europe.

Of course other parties feed into it too, but the club's role seems blatant in the extreme to me.

But equally they can go to any number of places for that information. Of course the club leaks information, all clubs do, but the idea that if they stopped the information would stop as well isn't going to happen.
  7. While I'd generally swing more towards the '70m is ridiculous' line of thinking, there's a middle ground that suggests that the club is incapable of going about its business in a professional manner. That's what I'm most irritated about - the van Dijk humiliation and the constant leaks of interest that only drive up prices and make potentially selling clubs hostile towards us.

How much of the Salah transfer would we have known about if his agent wasn't posting pictures of plane tickets and conducting the deal via twitter.

Not all the links come from the club and with so many people involved in a transfer, and with a vested interest of a transfer becoming a bidding war, then it's rarely going to be completely under the radar.

  8. Makes them look like they are trying and enough people fall for that shite 'not their fault the prices are so high, clubs don't need to sell' etc...

If any of us were given 150 million to spend a month or so back how many would have spent it all on Keita and VvD?

Granted now everyone would because they're obviously worth it and it's symptomatic of the reluctance to just put the money down and pay whats needed, but really, deep down, nobody would have blown that much on those two.

  9. If the club have no intention of meeting the likely asking prices, they probably shouldn't have leaked to all and sundry that they were interested in van Dijk and Keita.

Given the Keita price has jumped from 30 to 50 to 80 and the Van Dijk price has gone from 40 to 50 to 70 then it probably fair enough.
  10. I'd like us to sign him, I'd prefer him to be cheaper and think we can get a player with similar production for less but he's still up there in terms of pl based defenders.

70 million here and 80 million there are the signing you make when you're running out of things to spend your money on not when you're still building.

  11. It's stupid amounts of money but it's almost worth it because both Man City and Chelsea wanted him, we also had to apologise to Southampton for tapping him up. If we got him anyway it's probably worth a few extra mill just for the swag.

They didn't want him that badly though, certainly in City's case. Remains to be seen with Chelsea.
  12. As stated in my lengthy MF post on this subject there is no chance of it happening. May as well lock the thread after this post.

    Nice one, Paulie.

Need to mix it up a bit fellas, maybe get someone else to validate it every once in a while so it's not the same person playing the game.

  13. Right now it feels like we've been building a jigsaw from the outside edges and wondering why we can't work out what the picture is.

Isn't that how you're supposed to do a jigsaw?

You'd be fucked trying to do that baked bean one from the inside out.

  14. £60m is crazy but on the other hand he's clearly more than £10m better than John Stones.

Is he 10 million better than more competent defenders who didn't go for 50.million though?

The prospect of spending that much is definetly influencing peoples opinions more than the ability of the player.

  15. It's clear klopp sees this as the role of the whole midfield unit not just Henderson or can otherwise he'd have bought a dm by now.

Yep, he hasn't even acknowledged a true DM in any of his targets since he got here.

If we ever did sign anyone for the middle of the three then all indications point to it being a deep lying playmaker.

  16.

Exactly. Southampton is built to make their defense look good. We didn't learn from the Lovren purchase, and he wasn't been shit, just not anything more than average.

We need to buy a CB that is doing well in a more open system. I'm surprised we've not been assessing the club's playstyle when chasing our targets. Mentalcakes not to do this...

It doesn't matter about open of closed systems, if we could have kept Lovren and Matip on the pitch together then our defence would have been a foot note based on player preference and depth rather than one of the priorities.

We need a good defender or two who can play 40 games a season instead of missing weeks at a time with niggly injuries.

  17.

The play slowed up consistently when Milner chose to keep cutting back on to his right foot. Get that sorted and we would look even more fluid going forward.

Thats a problem that could have been fixed with the signing of Salah though.

With Milner and Coutinho on the left hand side we lacked real pace and both players liked to cut inside from deeper positions. Salah coming in free's up Coutinho to play as an 8 and with Mane (or Salah when they switch) on the left instead Milner has more of an outlet when going forward.

  18. We can't be signing anymore players for the bench. The squad is full of them. First teamers or nothing

The bench's last season would suggest it's full of kids.

The signing would have to be looked at in the context of the rest of the summer signings, if we signed 4 first teamers, a LB and Chamberlain then would anyone care?

Granted if Chamberlain was one of the 4 that would be a different matter but there's nothing to suggest that's the case at the moment.

    Our bench could go from

Karius, Lucas, Arnold, Ejaria, Grujic, Sturridge, Woodburn (for example).

    to

Karius, Lovren, Wijnaldum, Chamberlain, Sturridge, Lallana and Can

  19. TBH, I threw paredes name in as I'd seen he was being made available for £22m and I've seen him have great games compared to AOC doing nothing yet seeing reds chomping at the bit to sign him up for £25. If we don't get Keita over the line this summer, I'd rather we kept the money for this position and develop Grujic until at least Xmas and if Leipzig fall apart in the CL, have another go for him in Jan (I know FSG don't like Xmas shopping but...)

So in summary it was a bullshit name drop (thrown in because of a similar price) in defence of a non existent premise (nobodies chomping at the bit to sign him, some can see the sense in doing so)

    Brilliant.
