  1. I know very little about this. Can you elaborate please, Al?

I found this on the story:

Thai PM stays mum on Liverpool purchase

    Reuters

    Sunday May 9, 2004 11:06 AM

BANGKOK, May 9 (Reuters) - Thailand's Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra was tight-lipped on Sunday after being asked about a report that he was going to buy a stake in English premier league club Liverpool.

"I can't say anything yet. That would be poor etiquette," Thaksin, a billionaire telecom tycoon-turned-politician, told reporters while playing golf.

A report in the Thai-language Thai Rath newspaper quoted Deputy Commerce Minister Pongsak Ruktapongpisal as saying Thaksin would sign a deal on Monday to buy a 30 percent stake in Liverpool for 4.6 billion baht ($115.7 million).

The deal would entitle him and his partners to commercial rights in Asia. Liverpool would also set up a soccer academy in Thailand and help with the country's professional league, the paper said.

Liverpool would fly a representative to sign the deal on Monday, the paper added.

    PONGSAK DENIAL

But Pongsak, who was playing golf with the prime minister on Sunday, told Reuters he gave no such interview.

"I'll admit there have been negotiations but no agreement has been reached, so how can they sign a deal on Monday?", he said.

Thaksin declared an interest in buying a stake in Liverpool in February after his bid for English premier league rivals Fulham failed last year.

Thai media have reported that local beer baron Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi was also keen on joining Thaksin in the Liverpool bid.

The Thai Rath report on Sunday said Thaksin would set up a company with private partners for the soccer purchase.

Thaksin, estimated to be worth $1 billion by Forbes magazine in 2002, watched the value of his family's holdings soar along with a surging Thai stock market last year.

The family controls Thailand's largest telecom group, Shin Corp

SHIN.BK>, which has interests ranging from television to the Internet.

Charoen is a major shareholder in Thai beer maker Thai Beverages, which produces top-selling Chang Beer and several brands of whisky such as Mekhong and Saeng Som, and makes a profit of more than $250 million a year.

Paradise Street lures Germans May 5 2004

    By Tony Mcdonough, Daily Post

GERMAN investment house Deka has confirmed it is considering investing in Grosvenor's Paradise Street development.

It was reported last week Deka was pondering a £200m investment in the £750m scheme for Liverpool city centre.

This week the fund management company has admitted it is in talks with Grosvenor.

In last week's Daily Post, Grosvenor said THAT it was in talks with a number of investors from both the UK and overseas as it searched for funding for the project.

The company added it was now very close to having the money in place.

The scheme, comprising 1.6m sq ft of retail space as well as leisure facilities and luxury apartments, was originally backed by Henderson Global Investors but it pulled out last year.

Other possible investors reported to be taking an interest in the development include "Hermes", Liverpool Victoria and CIS.

Grosvenor fund management director Mervyn Howard told the Daily Post last week: "We are getting a lot closer to finalising our views."

Grosvenor has appointed DTZ to advise on the funding and last year flew a party of potential investors to Liverpool to view the site.

DTZ's head of retail investment, Chris Williams, said: "We hope to make a decision about the investors in a relatively short space of time."

Grosvenor is also awaiting an imminent decision from Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott on compulsory purchase orders (CPOs).

Culture and retail centre Quiggins is among those who have fought to retain ownership of their properties. Retailers are said to be clamouring for sites in the prestige development. Around 157 units are earmarked for the scheme as shops, restaurants or café bars but more than 250 potential tenants are already in the queue.

These do not include the John Lewis Partnership and Debenhams who have already signed up for anchor stores of 240,000 sq ft and 180,000 sq ft respectively.

  3. Sky has

    Sky Sports 1

    Sky Sports 2

    Sky Sports 3

    Sky Sports Xtra

More than enough channels to show as many games as they want!!

Sky have an agreement with the PL to show 66 games a season. They will have shown 64 before the last game of the season leaving them with just 2 matches to show on the final day.

  4. Houllier got rid of David Thompson because he wasn't deemed good enough for us and he had a suspect temperament. Barton isn't fit to lace Thompson's boots and has a decidedly iffy temperament. Go figure.

  5. Come on Steve, surely by now we are all immune to this self- pity shite. I stopped paying attention to this bollocks a number of years ago now mate. I was talking to a pissed up blue gobshite today who reckons all their current financial ills are down to "special agent" Johnson, he couldn't explain how Johnson had fuck all to do with the mess inherited from Dr David Marsh.

Ps. How on earth did Phillip Carter earn a knighthood, it can't have had anything to do with being a succesful business man or financial prudence.

Premiership player tests positive for cocaine

    By Alan Nixon

    13 April 2004

An unnamed Premiership club has suspended one of their players after he failed an internal club drugs test.

The young striker was found to have traces of a recreational substance, believed to be cocaine, after a routine medical check. The club made the discovery a few weeks ago but managed to keep it secret.

The player was fined the maximum possible two weeks' wages and is officially on the club's injured list. He will not play again this season while further tests are made on him. The player has given the club his version of events and how the drug was found to be in his system.

Officials are dealing with the matter internally and are checking the player regularly to make sure there is no repeat offence. There was no need to alert the Football Association as the matter came to light during an in-house investigation. But the players' union, the Professional Footballers' Association, has been informed.

My money is on Francis Jeffers. Has anyone heard anything?

  7. I remember that final home game when Souness wasn't there. It was like a cloud had been lifted from Anfield, the atmosphere returned to it's best and I'm pretty sure we won 6-0.

And yet Moores still kept him in charge for the start of the following season.

We beat Spurs 6-2 that day and it was a party atmosphere due to the fact we all believed Souness was a goner. Spurs fans bricked the King Harry that day, the bloody party poopers. That was a monumental fuck up by Moores that summer, and together with the joint manager bollocks of last time and the current farce(sp?) of allowing Houllier to lower our targets to 4th place mean I have lost any faith in his ability to run our club. The stuff Mrs Brady has written fills me with dread.

  8. "So Mr Dalglish, what have you been up to for the last decade as the world has been changing and the game evolves, winning trophies? Studying coaching techniques? Scouting?"

" Nah, i've been doing a bit on the telly and fixing up the garden"

    "Welcome aboard!"

Fucking hell lads, some sense please!

He's been nursing his sick wife. Some respect please.

I totally agree with Paul's last post.
