  1. I’d like to see the figures on how many times the refs have been sent to look at the monitor this season. I bet those figures are well down on previous seasons? When was the last time it happened in one of our games? Was it Spurs away when we got shafted with the Curtis Jones red card when they showed a still of his studs hitting the other player’s leg?

The lack of being sent to the monitor tells me that they’ve agreed between them not to do it unless absolutely necessary. Every week I watch Match Of The Day and am amazed at the penalties that aren’t given, and no referral to the monitor.

  2. The VAR officials need to be completely separate from the PGMOL officials and have their own boss that they are answerable to. This situation of the referees having their mates on VAR is ridiculous and is leading to mates covering each other’s backs. If a VAR official thinks a mistake has been made, they need to speak up and tell the referee “you need to have another look at that”. The very idea that Michael Oliver is arrogant enough to tell his PGMOL colleagues not to send him to the monitor is preposterous. If they are sent to the monitor and don’t change their original decision, that’s fine as long as they feel they can justify it.

I think that's beyond doubt, to be honest.

A few shouts for Mac Allister, aside.

Alisson was brilliant early on as well, but he's just missed too many games to be in with a shout for our player of the year.

Vvd has had an absolutely brilliant season and as soon as he has a couple of games below his best level, he's slaughtered. So far he's been an absolutely top class captain.

I'd say he's been our player of the year. I think a fair few of us worried that we'd seen the best of him after last season, but he's mostly been back to his best this season and has led the team brilliantly. Anyone calling him out now is surely just venting out of frustration at the team's current form and results.

Yes he's still there. I think he joined as supporter liaison officer. But I think he's now head of press for the 1st team.

Klopp referred to Tony in his press conference the other day when he was asked about the flag protest at the Atalanta match. He said in a response to a journalist that he had just heard about it from Tony before the press conference. Barrett must act as a press advisor for Klopp briefing him on what he's likely to be asked about before the press conferences and ensuring he's informed on the latest goings on.

    • Klopp doing his best to retain his reputation as a bottler

I believe that when he arrived at Liverpool he was famous for losing finals

Yes he had two Bundasliga's with Dortmund, but he lost the Champions League final that he took them to.

At Liverpool he's won a champions league (against Tottenham !) and lost one.

He's won 1 league title across his 9 seasons there. And that was the pandemic freak show. In his first season he got to two cup finals and lost them both.

2022 they pick up domestic cup double, but is that really a good return given the quality they've had over such a long period of time?

If they win the league this season it means Klopp goes ahead of legendary PL managers such as Pellegrini, Mancini and Raniera. If they don't, he's at their level, albeit with a couple of cup wins. About par with Ancelotti (in England only).

      But he's a bottler.

For all the "Everton that" narrative don't forget:

      - Liverpool 1989 only need to lose by 1 goal, they lose 2-0
      - 2014 they are 3-0 up against Palace and go for goal difference, end up drawing

Yes they've had comebacks of their own, and trophies. I thought to myself losing finals is part and parcel of winning them, and I'd much rather get to many and win a few than the alternative. But his legacy is underwhelming when judged on winning things

      Liverpool bottle it

      When it matters, we win

      3-2 vs Wimbledon
      3-2 vs Palace
      1-0 vs Bournemouth

We're shit but we don't got down. That's Everton.

      "Everton that" means surviving.
"Liverpool that" means everyone blowing smoke up your arse but you don't actually win much

  9. These young Scando lads are some prospects. Hovland is probably the best of them and he’s had a piss poor tournament. Apparently Højgaard has a twin brother who is equally as talented as well. Looks like the Ryder Cup could be in good hands.

  10. £30 to win on Scheffler at 9/2. I’ve gone from smug as fuck, to thinking my bet is now fucked, and back to pretty smug in the space of three holes.

My other bet, Matsuyama,  is long since fucked, so all my bets are in the one basket, especially after a dismal Grand National.

  11. Also I don’t really see why a club that can turnover £560m in a year where performance wasn’t spectacular needs to squeeze an extra £2.5m from their most loyal supporters. It’s a drop in the ocean and hardly seems worth the bad feeling it creates.

As for people saying it’s only a 2% increase, ticket prices are 1400% higher than back in the early 90s. If season ticket prices had increased in line with inflation since then, a Kop season ticket would be around £200, and not the £700 plus they currently cost. But as the tv money slows down, they obviously feel the need to squeeze the fans again. This will only be the start.

  12. A mate of mine has recently relocated his season ticket from block 109 on the Kop to the new Anfield Road stand with a group of mates he’s gone to the match with for years as they’re getting on and a couple of them have some health issues. In block 109 they were mostly sat next to a group of fans who have sat in the same seats for years. In the new Anfield Road stand they’re sat by a different group of fans every week. My mate said they got talking to a couple of fans sat by them a few weeks back, and they found out these fans had paid almost £500 for their tickets. This included a few extras like access to a lounge, some food was included, a free match programme and travel from town to the stadium and back. It sounds like there’s loads of these packages being sold throughout the stadium.

Also working from home this week I had Sky News on and on the business news section they had the ceo of a premium ticketing company called Seat Unique on. His business is doing really well charging extortionate amounts for tickets to gigs and sporting events similar to those packages mentioned above. This isn’t a ticket reselling site, they are supplied with the tickets by the venues themselves. I had a look at their site and they are offering tickets for our final matches of the season as below. How much extra is the club creaming in from these deals?

  13. I think that was probably our worst performance under Klopp because it was so unexpected. We’ve played terribly at times last season and in the COVID lockdown season, but there were reasons for those shockers and we could rationalise it. But that last night felt like it came out of the blue. It will either see our season come crashing down, or we will put things right at the weekend and show the determination to at least fight for the championship.

I don’t want to give anymore thought to that last night, and all my focus now will be on the golf, at least until about an hour before we kickoff on Sunday. As for the second leg against Atalanta, I’m in agreement with Barry Wom that we should write it off and rest those players who need a rest and concentrate on the remaining PL games .
