The former Academy star is set to return to the team on Wednesday night at Wolves after missing the last four games with a thigh injury but despite his own injury problems and four penalties that Gerard Houllier claims his team were robbed of by referees, the captain is not making any excuses.
Asked by Match magazine this week whether the team had been missing that bit of luck that you need at times, Gerrard was quick to avoid being seen to making excuses for a season which has already seen the team lose seven league games.
"Maybe, but that's basically looking for excuses," insists Stevie. "At the end of the day if we missed that bit of luck, we've missed that bit of luck. But we've got to get back to winning football matches, whether that's about luck or not. This team's got to perform to win football matches and it's no good looking at the past."
MATCH: But little things like that can have a big influence on results...
"But that's football and it doesn't matter," continued Gerrard. "You don't get decisions all the time - it doesn't happen. You go through spells where decisions don't go your way and you go through spells where they do. Maybe things weren't going for us at times this season, but there's no use sulking over that and feeling sorry for ourselves. We've got to move forward, look to the future and see where we're going to pick up points and move up the table."
