Ojo looking to emulate Ibe

Sheyi Ojo is taking inspiration from the example set by fellow teenager Jordon Ibe as he looks to establish himself at Anfield.

Ojo is on a season long loan at Wolves but is currently back training at Melwood during the international break, where he hopes to catch the eye of Jurgen Klopp. The German is well aware of the 18 year old’s potential and has already been to see him in action, but this week gives him a chance to get to know the talented youngster at close quarters.

“I think he’s come to see me a couple of times which is nice to hear and hopefully I can keep on improving and keep on doing well" said Ojo. "With the right guidance I think I can do well in this team. I’m still learning and I’m still young so I’ll just see how it goes and see what the manager wants me to do.”

“He’s just said to me to keep my head down, keep working hard and obviously we’ll just see what the future holds,” said former MK Dons youngster Ojo, who signed for the Reds as a 14 year old in 2011 for a fee that may rise to as much as £2million.

Whereas some of the Liverpool loanees have found it difficult to get playing time, Ojo has had no such trouble and has impressed with two goals in 13 league appearances and some man of the match displays. Ibe enjoyed a similarly successful loan last season at Derby County and was recalled to Merseyside by Brendan Rodgers, where he established himself in the first team and impressed in an unfamiliar wing back role.

Ojo, 18, is hoping to follow the same path and with wingers in short supply in Klopp’s current squad he knows that making a good impression at Wolves could lead to being fast-tracked into the senior side.

“He (Ibe) went out on loan last season and then got recalled back so it goes to show that if you do well on loan you get the chance to be called back and go straight into the first team. That’s my main aim to keep doing well and if I do get the call back, I just need to impress the manager.

“I’m learning now at Wolves and getting more experience but the main aim is to come back and impress the manager, and hopefully I can start playing for Liverpool on a regular basis.”
