Mods, firstly, apologies if this constitutes a type of advertising. However, as a grown, normally relatively insensitive bloke, I was moved watching ITV news tonight when a report about the East African famine came on.
So much so, that I made a fairly big donation to the official campaign at Donate Now - DEC.
You can donate as little as £5. Normally, I don't buy into stuff like this, which can be sometimes attributable to corrupt governments looking after themselves to the peril of their public. However, let's look at what we're dealing with here. Somalia is a country ran to all extents and purposes by an Islamic terrorist group in Al Shabaab. Their sole purposes of governance is to promote fundamental islam. They ban non-islamic ringtones, even ban women from wearing bras. Hence, the wellbeing of the area they "govern" is far from their paramount concern. Therefore, the people in this area have very little hope unless the international community intervene and help.
Why should I help? you may ask.
Firstly, minimum donation is a fiver. That's maybe a pint and a half less on the Friday night after work drinking session, a fiver on your weekend bets instead of a tenner.
Secondly, I challenge you to watch this and not be moved:
National News - ITV News
It's poor children, who haven't caused any problems in Somalia, who are now feeling the effects.
Right, enough do-gooding and conscious-panging from me. Just thought it deserved a thread....
