Is it just one of those things? We're out of Europe, we've been outside the top four for getting on half a decade, we're not the pull we once were. Do we just accept that Mkhitaryan, Diego Costa and Willian had 'better' options - better options meaning CL football, renewed contract, or relationship with the manager - or is it a fundamental flaw in how we do things? A bit of both? I wasn't best pleased that we lost out on Mkhitaryan, but losing out to Klopp's CL final side isn't too bad. Diego Costa's agent used our bid as a way to earn his player a shit load. Willian looked set to join before our interest was known and Spurs came in. Cunts. Both them and us. The only positive I can see is that at least we're looking to spend out money on players who are remotely worth it. They're solid targets. Spending huge money on somebody as a panic buy hasn't seen us too well in the past. At least the targets are decent. The rest seems like a fuck-up to me. At least partly the reality of being out of the CL and partly a fuck up. It appears we're briefing the press. Who's briefing the press? If it's players/manager on the sly, that's bad enough. We need to close shop. If it's coming from 'the other side', that's fine. If it's a strategy of our MD, he needs to either be sacked and replaced with somebody who has the first fucking clue what they're doing with the media. I'm pleased that the owners are freeing up enough money for our manager to go for these players. I'm not pleased how we're going about it. EDIT: Fuck, I mean whose.
