Photograph: Matthew Peters/Man Utd via Getty Images Ryan Giggs has won everything there is to win – 11 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two European Cups and the BBC Sports personality of the Year. But now Sir Alex Ferguson wants the Manchester United star to become a knight of the realm. Ferguson has made his case in the foreword to the Welshman's new autobiography Ryan Giggs: My Life, My Story. "His [Giggs's] achievements have been recognised, of course," said Ferguson, perhaps referring the OBE Giggs was awarded in 2007. "His name is wreathed in clouds of glory, his reputation is unassailable, he is an idol to millions all around the globe and he has accumulated enough assorted silverware to fill a phalanx of trophy cabinets. "But there is one accolade which has yet to materialise, although I trust it is only a matter of time before it does. How I would love to adorn my team sheet with the words 'Sir Ryan Giggs'. "Any why not? After all, it might be said that Clive Woodward became a knight of the realm essentially for winning three games at the 2003 World Cup. "Now I am certain that most of England, and everyone on the rugby scene, would say his honour was richly merited, and I wouldn't argue with that. But after making more than 800 appearances for Manchester United, many of them in extremely high-pressure situations, doesn't Ryan deserve it too? "Unquestionably he does, as much as any sporting figure we have known on these islands."
